Just doing a bit of research on what esc is...and I'm absolutely amazed and am super glad my car has it!

This saved my life when the feature was new many years ago. In the dark night, I was reducing from 60 mph into a clover leaf exit ramp when a car came toward me head on (it had turned mistakenly onto the ramp, thinking it was a way to enter the highway). I slammed the brakes and turned as hard as I could, fully convinced my car would either spin out or roll over. But this feature was activated and the car avoided the accident and went in the exact direction I steered. It was a surreal experience. I know it saved my life.

ESC is amazing, my insignia saved me on an icy corner one morning when I lost control. It braked the correct wheel and flung me around the corner.

Amazing demo👍 Wish ESC was mandatory in 🇮🇳 hopefully it will be in not so distant future 🤞

The first attempt was such a fail because you disabled ABS and the front wheels were completely locked. Would be good to do a test with ABS but no ESC (ABS was mandatory from 2003)

They made it look like a professional race driver is a helpless toddler without an ESP and ABS. Yes ESP is extremely useful, but he could have done much more without it. He was just sliding with all wheels blocked and the same steering angle all the way. BTW, in Sweden driving lesson on ice/like surface is part of every driver's education.

When slipping, the angle of the wheels does not affect the direction the car travels because the friction from them is not great enough to drastically change the direction. This is the same reason why when you are going on a highway, you would need to turn the wheel much much more to make a turn than you would driving in a parking lot or residential area.
@SDX90003 жыл бұрын
@@DominicI1 You are right. And that's why race driver would almost instinctively ease off brakes to regain traction and probably also reduce steering angle at the same time. The fact that he did not move the steering wheel shows that it is most likely a setup. Again, what this driver did is what vast majority of normal people would do, just it did not look like driving by a "V8 Supercars driver" ;) Plus no matter how good he is, with ESP in this situation any driver would beat race driver without ESP (as long as race driver wouldn't start tossing the car into the corner rally-style in anticipation of the corner).
@DominicI13 жыл бұрын
@@SDX9000 Maybe so, but the majority of drivers on the road are in no way experienced enough to properly handle these situations. You're right that the 'expert' should have performed better, as some people literally make a living mastering their 'drifting' and regaining control. If they said he was an expert, he should have performed better than an average person.

This is hit brake and Lock the wheels vs I just turned without any braking letting ESC do its job. This is useful as testing to not press brake at all while having ABS and pressing without ABS.

Is it using winter tires?
@jhndijkman3 жыл бұрын
This would be way more worthwhile if the driver was a regular suburban driver. Provisional driver has really clouded your point you are trying to make. The professional driver would not lock their wheels for a start.

I think you should have left ABS on. It's unrealistic to come across a car without it these days.

we haha here in mexico, they still sell cars without abs :( at least maybe only 4 models

True, but ABS only makes a difference when braking. They did not apply the brakes during the emergency lane change (serve) test.

Am I the only one who thinks that he fully locked brake at first, second time even didn’t touch brake?
@ruzzelladrian9077 жыл бұрын
It's like they just showed off ABS technology, rather than the ESC itself.
@DooMMasteR5 жыл бұрын
when turning the car brakes the inner wheels first, you can actually see it in the slowmotion…. ABS won't do that for you, it will also never engage if you are not braking at all, ESC will.
@DominicI13 жыл бұрын
Not true at all. Abs technology is only used when braking. It does not prevent swerving from slippery road conditions as much as it prevents swerving from locked wheels. It ONLY engages during braking, which was not used during the swerve test. The technology that you saw 'showed off' was actually almost all the ESC.
@tramvaj123 жыл бұрын
Yeah that is testing. ABS vs no ABS ( but in case with ABS to not hit brakes at all and see what will ABS do)

Did the car have the proper (read: northern european) winter tyres, with studs?
@DooMMasteR5 жыл бұрын
studded tires are only allowed in very very rare regions and banned pretty much everywhere else.

What's it like on ice road, going up or down a hill with a gradient of more than 10* and using just summer tyres?
@DooMMasteR5 жыл бұрын
It will do it's best, but with lesser and lesser tracction, even the ESC will be limited (it is no magic).
@ChildOL5 жыл бұрын
The professional drive who hit the brakes on snow instead of just swerving. They should have did it with and without using the brakes
@DooMMasteR5 жыл бұрын
the good thing about ESC is, that it will stabilize when breaking and even when not, which is especially helpful in stressful situations like an emergency evasion maneuver.

This is stupid - he lockup the wheels before he got to the cones

Obviously he is not professional drive as he would have let go of the brakes or would just pump them.

@allrock12388 жыл бұрын
From a visual indication he mashed the brakes locked all 4 wheels turned the car into a hockey puck then plowed into the cones how professional is that , in the real world its possible to swerve , but the recovery into the second lane would likely see the cars rotation physics leading to nasty reactive uncorrectable spin (or flying of the right hand side of the road boundary of you don't try a turn back onto the right lane ..
@BarbecuedPossum6 жыл бұрын
Fuck me you lot are dim... IT WAS A DEMONSTRATION. Yes obviously you can brake softer so it doesn't lock up and countersteer etc if it starts to slide but this is supposed to show how the system can deal with the situation even with an unskilled driver at the wheel.
@domenlipnik10175 жыл бұрын
@@BarbecuedPossum yeah, but in that case DO NOT BRAG ABOUT THE DRIVER BEING A PROFESSIONAL.
