How can you find the correct seat position for Takeoff and what kind of settings does a seat in a modern airliner have? This video is entirely dedicated to these questions. I will show you all the litte levers and secrets that Boeing pilots use in order to find that perfect seat position before they go flying.
Stay tuned to the end in order to see upcoming videos.

I drove a tractor/trailer for over ten years. I can tell you, I lived for a good seat. Really nice seats in a tractor/trailer would allow for a little bit of both forward/backward and up and down travel. The seats had driver adjustable air shocks as well. Anything to help absorb as much of the energy making its way through the seat to the driver was a godsend when you spent your entire day motoring down the highway. So I can really appreciate a well thought out seat when I see one. Awesome job describing the seat. Thank you for time and effort! I do have an unrelated question, apologies if there's another forum for questions, I'm a noob to your channel. Okay, do you know how and why a flight would pick up the word "heavy" as part of its designation? Size of the aircraft? Perhaps the number of passengers? Could it be as simple as how much the plane weighs? Again, thanks much!

It was a big move forward in aviation safety to be sure that not just a person of average size can be comfortable in the cockpit but larger and smaller people too. After all most people aren't average size. I fly gliders built about 60 years ago and our club has about 20 cushions of various sizes to adjust the seat.
@MentourPilot
@MentourPilot 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, the seats are very easily adjusted now.
@antoy384
@antoy384 5 жыл бұрын
Chris Foote I read a story about that. UK air force assuming it didn’t matter if they built RAF planed for average size people, only to discover that no pilot is average on all dimensions at the same time, everyone has either longer legs or longer torso even at average size. By building planes for 60% of the people in leg size and 60% in torso size, they reduced their recruit pool to only 36% of the total, before even selecting for talent and intelligence. So it became a strategic priority to start building adjustable planes ;)

Thanks Capt.You might have forgotten to mention the seat recline feature and if there is a particular angle for optimal view during flare.Pilots with bellies tend to need more recline for comfort than flat bellied ones... ; ) cheers

Yeah the seating position is one of the most important things even in gliders! Went from a DG1000 to an ASK21 and I had real trouble determining where I was in comparison to the horizon. (we use the real horizon as an instrument) Just think of how it would be if I changed my position on every flight!

Great Video! Here some more questions or topics to cover: Could you make a Video about the ATC Communication (Delivery, Ground, Tower, Departure, Center etc.) and Airspace Structure & Regulations in Europe? In a former video about "When do airline pilots use the autopilot?" you mentioned, that sometimes the ATC will clear you, to go direct to a waypoint more far away, then the closest on your flight plan? Will this happen also on complex STARS like in EDDF the KERAX 25N (looks like an S Curve) that they will say go straight to Point DF426 an capture the ILS?

Amazing design! Kudos for the engineers! is awesome.. never know that about the chair. Perhaps sounds unfair and troublesome, but I will put 2 ejection seats, one for the pilot (perhaps co-pilot too) and 1 for the cabin crew. IF an accident happens at someone can tell the tale... or if happens like the "fly 6 of UPS Airlines" both pilot can crash the plane and bail out (there are the only ones onboard).

This reminds me of being a drummer. The difference between somebody who tours and a great amateur is the ability to handle failures. A touring drummer is used to everything sliding away from him, breaking, never ever feeling “just right.” The marked difference between a professional drummer and an amateur is neither ability nor complexity. It’s being able to produce the same product under any circumstance.
@DeputatKaktus
@DeputatKaktus 5 жыл бұрын
I can confirm that.... Having worked as a drum tech on several occasions I noticed a difference between ‚first timers‘ on stage (or bands who only had played very few gigs) and seasoned drummers. The former often were quite nervous about stuff shifting, be it their kick drum (on that shaggy old worn-though rug) or any of their cymbals. Lets say that playing the drums while trying to pull back a wayward kick drum do not always go well with one another. On the other hand we have those who just have no fucks left to give. During one concert (Moonsorrow, during the 2007 Ultima Ratio festival), one of the drummer’s beaters fell / broke off the foot pedal about a minute into the song. Immediately got into position next to the side fill with the spare pedal in hand. The drummer powered through the entire 8 minute-something song on one beater (which was a feat in itself if you ask me), never losing his cool. Other drummers might well have broken off the song to do the swap and started again. After the song finished, he practically jumped up 5 feet back and to the side so I could get under the rack to replace the pedal. The whole thing was over and done with in under 15 seconds. After that it was back to ‚business as usual‘.
