My grandmother learned proper reading techniques & taught them to my dad & family. One she would say to do is drink lemon & water a few hours before to clear your mouth. Then eat. Then chew on a few black cloves (don’t swallow them spit them out) for a bit before you go on to speak. This she said dries your throat so it’s clear & you don’t hear any whatever in your throat. She always said to walk, speak & read from your core. Don’t speak from your throat. It sounds weak. From your core doesn’t sound high, or fake, or too low. But it’s grounded. It probably comes from the same advice that the online singing lesson guy gives. I think he has a speaking course. I’m not sure how good he or it is. But he had a name & he too says to breathe from your core. Breathe in through nose & out through mouth. Keeps moisture in the vocal cords & mouth. Lastly whenever anyone had to speak in the morning she would say to clear your throat & breathe by pronouncing the vowel sounds from your core. Ah ah, eh eh, eeee eeee, eye owe owe, oo oo (the sound as in coo). It helps get breathing down & clears your mouth & makes it nimble. But you are originating sound from your core not your throat. Anyway, thought this might be of use to you since you speak in camera. You have a nice sounding voice. Nor high. I think some men (not in broadcasting) make the mistake of speaking from their throat or head. It can sound high & tinny. You don’t have it. You have nice, resounding, full sound from core. Some of the broadcasters may not realize their voice gets high. Yours does not. You don’t want To sound gravelly either. You don’t. Those guys try too hard to go low. You have to just make it natural what comes out of the sounds you make from your core. So your voice is good. You also aren’t monotone & have intonation & can add lightness when needed so the texture & tone of your voice has warmth & interest. You already are awesome just thought I’d share what little I know. Ideally everything you say is broken down & is easy to listen to & grasp point. Like what we naturally do in conversation, you do this very well. Liked the way you described Josh’s tendency sometimes to get in a hyper state & throw big. It just makes listening more interesting & we get a better feel for what you are saying. We see your words & thoughts & feel them more. Great job!!!!

Thanks to Tom having his children help out at a local animal shelter they have a few additional family members now! It’s so great that he is having his kids go and work at the shelter and get a perspective of how life works.
