What if I told you, computers don't calculate with on and off? But a higher and lower voltage? Think about the binary code of a key you press on your keyboard, if the first binary number is a 0, and 0 is off and 1 is on, the computer won't "know" the first bit is a 0, so basically you have on and more on. :P

Some corrections and things that might have been interesting to mention : - 1 and 0 is NOT on and off. X (undetermined value) is off. 1 and 0 can only be obtained if there's power. - Processors don't recognise only 2 states, 1 and 0. A transistor, or a logic gate, which the processor is composed of, recognises only two states. A processor recognises as much bits as its input has. A 64 bit computational processor (CPU) gets 64 "1 or 0", which constitute a command. It then responds with a 64 "1 and 0" message. - Wire signals (copper, fiber) and radio signals (through the air) are actually converted the same way : they are modulated to be sent using a certain frequency. The difference is only in the frequencies chosen and the conditions of the "channel" (air is saturated by other radio signals, copper transmits better in some frequencies than others).

Wifi came out in 05 when I was a sophomore in college. It was the same thing all over again... How did I live without this all this time?

When I was a kid, you had to run around looking for a pay phone if something went wrong when you were away from home or a business... I can think of trying to meet friends when there was a hitch with parking or some other issue, sometimes you never met them now, it feels like a problem when there is no cell connection (recently switched to t-mob, really poor signal in my area... Or being stranded on a lonely road late and night when the old car quits... without cell phones, there were some difficult and dangerous times... frustrating when something I didn't have for most of my life now, doesn't work well. And, I can remember rolling my eyes about the idea of putting a camera in a "mobile phone", so... what next?
