The 'secret' to developing Qi is openly taught in all of the internal styles when teaching standing practice. Xing Yi San Ti, Taiji Zham Zhong, Bagua's static postures of each of the 8 palms all use the same mental process. This bssic internal memtal meditative process is how the Qi is developed. Sun LuTamg practiced SanTi until Guo Yunshen was satisfied in the level of energy LuTang produced, about one year practice. This internal practice is taught but many students overlook it because they assume it is just a physical correction mechamism. In reality, this constant mentally checking the physical alignment, from head to toe is the secret to understanding all aspects of Qi. The body remains static so the mind can wander around the structure, feeling and sensing. Focus, concentration, and sensitivity are developed this way. These are necessary to understand and develop Qi.

It is not openly taught unfortunately. I wish it was. There are definitely ways to do it that don't get you results.

Lots and lots of good stuff here, if you have the eyes and ears! 😉 Some of my notes to self: how to generate whole body fali (cross-link to Yiquan); short-range and not just long-range power; transfer of one's own body mass into someone else; power from the ground up, use of XYQ explosive forward driving steps, driving from back foot; compressing, bending/releasing the spinal bow (body like a metal spring); extending into your opponent, or pulling him/her into you on contraction/compression; rotational power and vertical/horizontal planes. Another great video. Lots to practise, many reminders. Thank you! 🙏👍

I really appreciate all that you are doing! These videos are so helpful for those of us studying on our own. I have been reading Xing Yi Quan Xue since high school and seeing it applied is very useful to me. I am thankful that it is not silky pj wushu as well. I have been a long time Karate student and internal martial arts are the next level of understanding. Also, I believe that it is an art that will let you age (and fight) gracefully into your 90s. Thanks again.

I've seen several videos of yours, thanks for your great job of filming these. In my point of view, this master shows really special work in his training, not many master have achieved this, vertical circle and horizontal circle generate power at the same time. possibley recorded as 爆炸勁 or 火燒身. BTW, I have learned 6 years of Xing Yi Quan in Taiwan when I was in college. Some masters of NeiJia Quan (refers to Xing Yi , BaGua, TaiJi) moved to Taiwan in 1949, including Zhang Jun Feng who is the master of my master. Most of their Xing Yi has deeply influenced by Bagua.

It's still in the planning stages and I'm still contacting teachers... but yes I do hope to visit Yong Chun county. To answer the question about Taiji or Bagua... what I am trying to do with these series is to join the dots of different styles. I may like to feature some Chen Style and Zhaobao Style Taiji at some point in the future to explore the connection between Shaolin, Xinyi and Taiji. I also want to visit Cangzhou and other areas in Hebei and western Shandong to cover more classical Northern Styles, so we can see the overlaps from one style to another. On the whole I'm more interested in older styles, particularly ones which have been influential in the development of newer ones... such as Fanzi, Cuojiao, Tongbei, Cha Quan etc. There are a few groups here in Shanghai who do Xingyi and Bagua together, it would take much less effort to organise some interviews with them.

This is important technique. Two centers of gravity exist in human body. One on the hip bone (inside of abs) is used for martial art. Japanese one also uses it. Modern pianist also uses it, too. I'm in Xing yi quan, for these monthes. Most movies aren't useful for using the center gravity. This one is good. Especially the last performance is so good.

I can't understand what they are doing. It's so far from any king of fight, it's more like a study of something but don't know what. One single punch of a trained fighter will result more powerfull and explosive. So, what are you doing there? However, it remains a beautiful testimony of a different culture, but if you want to fight go elsewhere please

internal training is structural training; its to be trained to supplement an external style which gives individual techniques. Techniques with this kind of power are devastating--perhaps you should visit a master and get a sense of it in person rather than sitting behind your keyboard and assuming you know everything!

I think we need to finally leave this mystical unfounded and unproven Qi/Ki behind. It really is just traditional beliefs that are not true. Any proper fighter or martial artist knows that it is body mechanics...but if you focus on 'moving ki' or 'dan tian' this or that, you are wasting your time or just getting into mystical aspects which aren't there. Most martial artists, like these guys, are generally paper tigers...are theoretical or 'artists'. Yes, I love traditional forms and it's cool, but I am under no illusion that I am developing life giving Ki or that after years that Ki will give me a single thing. Sadly, we martial artists hang onto this marketing, this Chinese BS (and the Chinese make up a truck load of BS to embellish their martial arts to the point of downright lying) that we swallow because it is interesting.
