Totally - I had a lot of friends in NYC and spent a lot of time there in the 90s so I was pretty familiar with how fake the Trump myth was back then. So when they started that TV show - which I never watched - but saw the commercials with him saying "you're fired" and was repulsed. Why anyone could think that was entertaining is beyond me but obviously that was a minority opinion. FF to 2016 I have been living in TN for several years and I would listen to people where i work - who do not like nor trust - people from NYC - and they talked about him like he was a business genius and I was like OMG - they actually believe this - I knew we were in trouble.

if Anthony was one of the victims of Trump's policies- maybe he wouldn't "like the guy" so much. demonizing them for eating the dogs, and cats, and the geese. ho said in the debate that Kamala "I heard that she put out" and for a week before the election mimicked performing oral sex on his microphone to say she slept her way to the job she had. he is sadistic sociopath and everything he now says is a pack of lies. That he still won the popular vote is staggering. BUT TRUMP is not the threat J D Vance is a smart sadistic sociopath. Think of the dumbest conspiracies that are too extreme even for QANON - this presidency is going to be even worse than that. Im in Scotland I cant laugh at trump. 10 years of poking fun at this sadist has merely normalized this sick fk. This is fascism in control of the biggest super power and yet TRUMP is not the one in control. It is Billionaire Leonard Leo who boasts of grooming J DVance and Stepehen Miller to control america. Who brags that he has the 6 right wing "SCOTUS justices in his pocket". He is getting the attention and that is medias fault. You said it he doesn't care about bad publicity. He only looks at rating and how many times he is mentioned. The more outragous he gets the more he tempts the media to cover him. It gets to the point that he starts believing his own BS and that is danger for God's sake. People think he is as effective as he was on the show. I remember even black people people used to stop to tell the jounalist that Trump can do the job. Americans have this thing about good businessmen and the boss. Trump on apparantice came across as if he knew what he was doing while entertain8ng them. Who wouldn't want that. But the problem is that he doesn't really care as long as people keep talking about him. Then when it come to make decision he will just do what made everyone talking about him. As long as he gets money snd people see him as a rich man then worth talking about. He really doesn't even think about consequences.

One of the best podcast episodes I've seen yet. Very insightful. I always thought that Trump's ascent to the presidency was enabled by his name recognition from TV. I learned it here first, that Reagan enjoyed the same benefit as host of GE Theatre. It is a sad and scary comment on humanity that a major qualification for leadership roles is simply name recognition. I suppose it is hardwired into our DNA; no shade intended. Credit where credit is due, Trump is also a juggernaut. Whether it's a lack of a sense of shame or sheer drive to defy detractors at all costs or both, Trump embodies persistence like no other person in modern day America. Persistence and determination alone, as former President Coolidge has said, are omnipotent. That is the reason why the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing. As exhausting as Trump is, good people must be persistent. Go vote!

Hi, I am from the UK and a massive fan of your Rest Of Politics US. I often agree with your opinions. Trump's presidency is part of a larger narrative- a dramatic shift in the global political landscape. Extreme politics (both left and right) are gaining prominence, and Trump is a significant part of this larger upheaval. For me, it is the culmination of Globalisation (Offshore, Immigration), Automation (AI and robotics), and Healthcare (people living longer, care costs, and money not passing on). This has all resulted in the West becoming poorer than the other countries, reaping the benefit of being a smaller world now. However, the knock-on effect is that politics has less power over companies ability to increase profit and finance (how can politics stop or delay the global onslaught, where companies can relocate to other countries, including Western ones, which makes it easier for them). The net result is that politics can no longer improve the lives of its people in any significant way. With things being less stable for people, people are becoming poorer and more dissatisfied, and there is no trust in politicians and leaders. So, they look to any politician who is not perceived as part of the establishment or seems to promise solutions to the predicaments and uncertainty most people face, so votes will turn to more extreme politics in the hope it will make things work for them. This is Brexit, this is Le Pen, and this is why right and left are winning across Europe. As this trajectory continues, there is a real risk of us falling away from democracy itself.

Have you not done your homework yet? You speak as if you have no understanding of the characteristics of someone afflicted with NPD(narcissistic personality disorder). Have you read about the psychological condition or spoken with someone who knows what the typical behaviors associated with NPD are? Please don't remain ignorant of this information, given your platform to reach the ears of so many people. Be kind and do good work.

Have you ever heard of other personality disorders besides NPD? Being a narcissist and being diagnosable as having NPD are not the same thing anyway. Reputable professionals shy away from making such diagnoses without personal experience of an individual.

I find Trump boring at best because he lies all the time, at worst he's dangerous and a threat to Democracy, and I don't ever find him funny but find that he's selfish and overbearing.

I think Reagan's rise to power had more to do with going up against McCarthy as president of the screen actor's guild than the general electric theater.

Sense of humor? When did Trump ever exhibit an iota of having a sense of humor??
