How Doomsday Preppers Lie to You

Every video I'll try to cover things I didn't quite have time to discuss in the video or felt didn't fit.
I should have clarified that most preppers sell a product on their own website, which inherently seems scummy since they are pushing fear. They aren't just being transparent about supporting them; they're saying it will "save you" or "help you."
It would be much different if they were just selling their own merch or being transparent about their earnings from it. I would guess maybe possibly some of this would almost be against the law regarding sponsorship disclosure since they have a vested interest in scaring you into buying or pretend its just part of their normal list of "essentials".
Most of this is jokes or satire, so don't take it too seriously. I don't think any of these creators are evil or bad, except that one dude trying to bring in Christian nationalism.

I think you're wrong an here is why. 1. The airline food is from the origin, not the destination and the airline has no obligation to the destination country. 2. The fine is for not declaring the fresh food, which is on the customs form if they had read it or done any research before travelling. If they ate the apples or declared them, no fine or hastle. 3. These food restrictions are made to defend against foreign pests and diseases that have destroyed entire industries in the past. It is important for the farmers and the food. Billions in damages. So, it looks silly, but it is clear to me that these people don't fully appreciate the interworkings of flying across the world.

How to Prep: 1. Canned and shelf stable food goods & toiletries to last one week in case of blizzard, storm power outage, pandemic lockdown 2. Introduce yourself to and be on speaking terms with your neighbors on both sides and across the street. You can’t make friends with everyone but you can try. 3. Generator and other means of temperature regulation for your home (this is the priciest purchase ) 4. Stocked first aid kit in home and anywhere else you spend time (work/car) 5. Fire extinguishers 🧯 6. Vegetable and fruit garden in your yard 7. Rain water collection rig in your yard/on your roof 8. Dog who barks when someone approaches the house 9. Cat to keep control on vermin population Issue is being self sufficient means you don’t need to buy a lot of sh!t. So it’s hard to monetize real preparedness advice.

A friend of mine is a “Prepper” and has been deep into it since we were like 8. He literally got radicalized by Alex Jones and the like. I fell down a nuclear war rabbit hole a while back but IIRC, the shockwave of a nuke may still kill you even if you were to hide in a bunker. Bunkers are primarily designed to fend from fallout and radiation, rather than being designed to tank a blast. Plus there's the whole matter of running out of food, water, etc.

Was raised by a (not terribly hardcore) prepper. I’m excited to watch this video! So far, the acronyms you opened with are really making me feel like I’m a preteen again: sitting on a blanket, watching Glenn Beck (or discussing current events) at my grandparents’ house with most of the family, lunch on TV trays or balanced in our laps. It was a strange way to grow up. I’m glad I didn’t carry those beliefs into adulthood, but there’s a sad sort of nostalgia about it all the same. I can’t wait to see what you have to say!

Having a small stockpile of non-perishable food isn't a bad thing. That will get you through the first few days of a major event such as a natural disaster, a global pandemic, or even a zombie alien invasion.

Silver does these amazing ups and downs. I knew a guy who inherited a lot of money and put something like 3/4's of it into silver at $40. Silver then went down to $20. The guy's lifestyle meant he was soon selling his silver ... I dabbled in a few "rolls" of silver dimes myself and got stung but small time. I decided PM's (precious metals) really only make sense in a very few cases. Like if you get 'em for free.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing 😊 Gold and silver can be really good investments so it isn’t like he is just throwing the money away or anything! For instance, if I put $1 into an index fund for the top 500 companies on my stock market 5 years ago, it would be worth roughly $1.15 today. However, if I bought $1 of gold 5 years ago, it would be worth roughly $1.50 today and silver is in a similar boat 😊 All that said, if he is buying it expecting in to be the currency of the “new world” or spending all his money on nothing but gold and silver, that’s a bit of a problem 😅

So I live in rural Kentucky. In my town, we actually have a community of dooms day preppers. They keep to themselves mostly, and occupy a street a long ways outside of town. I was raised a Jehovah's witness (I'm not anymore) and that was the only road we were forbidden from preaching on as they had pulled guns on members before.

I think the only thing that really separates him is that he isn't constantly fear mongering real world events and has some legitimate decent videos of him doing "rural living" things. He seems relatively harmless in comparison, but I still felt it was good to include him since he is still related to this grifter world. Hello first time viewer here. I think I was recommended this since I'm a Hasanabi head. Love the video and editing style. Just subbed! ❤ I think preppers felt vindicated after the covid lockdown and that led to it becoming much more popular. Also the EDC community is a gateway drug into prepping, you should see the subreddit. It's guys basically carrying a garage worth of tools and a gun with them at all times. I casually got into EDC because I got a cool pocket knife for cutting boxes and I was shocked by the insanity. Edit: I also remember when I learned about Wranglerstar being a a bit off his rocker. He ended a video with something along the lines of "good ideas come from the fertile minds of men" and that led me down a rabbit hole

Prepping started with the Silent Generation. They were a known counterculture group even in the 1950s. There's been preppers who have died of old age still waiting for the apocalypse. Whether they died having lived a totally wasted life, or whether they died having had a rich and fulfilling hobby interest...is up for debate. It's not hard to see though how it could lead to a morbid, twisted and neurotic fatalism. It's probably at a point now where some of the Gen Xers doing it inherited the practice from their parents. I've no doubt it's here to stay and some among Gen Zs and beyond will become obsessed with what is essentially a political and religious doomsday cult.

I'm a big fan of being prepared for things to go wrong, like having an emergency bag in the car in case of a breakdown. So it's not surprising that I've been suggested a lot of these prepper videos, and there's a lot of scammy stuff happening in a lot of them. I'd say if anyone is using fear to try to sell you something, that's a huge red flag.

Seriously, what good is gold in an apocalypse? It serves no purpose and has no value other than being shiny and hard to come by or if it's used as a conductor in electronic devices. The value of items like metals and diamonds comes from all the middle men it has to go through in order to be bought and sold on the open market, at their base they're not worth very much at all. It's the exact same way and reason drugs go up in value every time they switch hands before they make it to the addicts on the street paying 10x it's original value. It costs about a dollar to for a grower to produce a single 1 gram joint from planting to drying but a single joint sold to the consumer in the average weed store is roughly $10, the grower gets maybe $2 of that and doubles their investment with 100% profit, it's how trickle down economics really work, the consumer gets the sh!t end of the stick.

I think in their mind that having silver and gold they'll "be able to restart the economy" but in a situation like that the economy would restart in the good old fashion of just trading goods and services. Eventually yeah gold and silver might have a place once more centralized goverments start to form again but not likely in their life time.

Ethanol can be used for fuel and as an antibiotic/antiseptic while weed is just an essential thing to grow like any seeds you can get your hands on. They'd be worth a lot more in trade than gold/silver coins, even diamonds would be about as useful or valuable as bottle caps.

@@dangolfishin In Canada weed is legal, weed dealers are like Starbucks and have stores everywhere, they have to pay taxes now and they cut out a couple middle-men types like The Hells Angels and other organized crime which makes the average price of a joint about $5. We can legally grow our own weed at home and would cost less overall over time but it's a time consuming hassle or people don't know how to grow plants but also because each plant is like raising a puppy only to have to kill it after a few months and it's a wee bit sad.

I used to be a pepper. We had 8 kids so we needed food security. During the pandemic with all its fun I decided the whole movement was a scam and fear mongering. I left it and gave everything away to the foodshelves. I took a beat down from the community but I felt so good about leaving fear behind.

As someone who watches some of these channels, I am convinced that a certain degree of preparedness is actually not wrong (like being prepared for a power outage for like a week or not being able to go for groceries for a couple of days - normal stuff). Many of these channels have gone off the rails completely - in step with the tone in politics currently. As you point out concisely, they are grifting off the current state of society. They are creating a demand by overemphasizing every single current event in the light of a potential apocalypse.
