After taking on all the most popular glitches in Pokemon Emerald, an overwhelming majority of you wanted to see how many crazy bugs were available in the generation 5 games. Today we're going to find out how easily you can glitch Pokemon Black and White. Gen V glitches are super interesting because these are without a doubt the most stable games/generation in the series. No Cute Charm glitch (Gen 4), no Berry Glitch (Gen 3). It feels like GameFreak really had a grasp on the hardware they were using in Gen V. All of these seem like things that fell through the cracks rather than poor programming or something. I'd like to see a Gen 4 glitch video again. Some super cool stuff has been found. Get it done John! Cool video dude.

I like to call gen V the ultimate flex from Game Freak. They finally had a good understanding of what their software was capable of, and they pushed it hard. Every time I go over Skyarrow Bridge or up Celestial Tower, I just get that rush of a good cinematic camera shift and can't help but smile (unless the Deino I'm watching isn't Timid 👀). Black and White are my absolute favourite games in the series, partially because it finally felt like a game that knew what it wanted to be. The other reasons would take up a lot of time and energy that I'd rather not put into a text wall at 2:40 AM. :)

The slow-speaking old lady glitch reminded me of a neat little detail in Black and White. Conversations with N are one speed *faster* than what you have set in the options. Perhaps they applied the inverse of this to her on accident?

Other people also pointed out that the old lady speaking glitch means that they code npcs separately theres also a grass tile that just has the grass texture but doesnt work like a grass texture (no pokemon spawn and there isnt the rustle effect present) wich means they also code those individually 🤔 i think thats pretty interesting

There are long paragraphs ahead I know 5 things about Mystery Dungeon glitches: 1. If you hold l or r during an attack animation or a getting hurt animation, everything will stop until you let go of the button. No text boxes will appear, no Pokemon really does anything, attacks won't show up. If you do it while a Pokemon is taking damage and wait a few seconds, the Pokemon will leave its getting hurt animation and return to its idle pose. It most likely only occurs in Red Rescue Team, Blue Rescue Team, Explorers of Time, and Explorers of Darkness. I haven't been able to test it outside of those games. 2. In Red Rescue Team, it's possible to corrupt a few things via wonder mail. I believe one of these is seeing the debug map. 3. In Rescue Team, by inserting a specific series of Wonder Mail codes, you can begin entering older ones. 4. In the first release of Blue Rescue Team, there was a fatal error. If placed in an original DS or DS Lite, it can communicate with a copy of Red Rescue Team that has been inserted in the GBA slot. However, first-print Blue Rescue Team cartridges would check if the GBA game was Red Rescue Team. If it wasn't, your save data would be gone. And now, a spoiler warning for Super Mystery Dungeon. 5. In Super Mystery Dungeon, during a specific chapter, your partner would get scared. If you ran up a slope in town and back down in a specific way, keeping your partner on the slope, your partner would fail to run back to you. If you go far enough away from your partner, they will cower in fear. However, if you walk to a specific spot, your partner will warp off the small ledge, but will appear to run quickly to you. It's hard to see due to being night in the game and serves no functional purpose. I've only done it twice with myself being a Piplup and my partner being a Snivy. The second time was trying to recreate the glitch, with my first time being an accident. I do have an idea of why this occurred. Because the partner always tries to catch up to the player, as you're forced to allow him to stick by your side like glue, he'll automatically run towards you, taking time to check for anything spooky and shudder in fear. By moving the way I did, my partner went to a lower part of the ledge, but the awkward angle had made the game think about where to place Snivy. Running at the side pushed him both directions along the slope. The game must've realized "oh hey the shuddering in fear animation should play now" and the animation pushed him off, all of the aimless running caught up, and he had come by my side.

There aren't that many glitches in Mystery Dungeon, honestly. I remember some people posting sprite corruption, but no idea how that works.

ok, John, since you ran out of glitches and oversights to talk about, here's a funny one: This particular glitch/oversight happens when you're using Rollout against a Gym Leader, like Brycen, and it causes something interesting to NOT happen, that being the little cutaway that happens when that trainer is down to their last Pokémon. To be more precise, if you keep knocking their Pokémon out with Rollout, the cutaway won't happen like it normally does. (Someone please let me know if this has happened with other similar moves or Gyms)

An Octopath style remake could, they'd also have to revive or remake certain aspects like the DW to really get down the experience. There was so much unavailable now which is why i've feared a remake. They're the single hardest games to ever do the same way again purely because of how many things were intertwined with temporary mechanics at the time. Websites dead and gone, whole systems like the Entralink also practically impossible without redoing. Some of it was also evolved over time like Pass Powers becoming O-powers. Some of it being outdated like the Inferred stuff, the AR, and so on. i truly believe though that given time and the effort needed they could remake all that but it is quite a lot.

6:11 Actually that one glitch (the Kadabra evolving via trade even with an everstone) first appeared in the Gen 4 games. And in those games, at least, you couldn't stop a trade evolution (like how you can't stop a stone evolution). Don't know if the glitch still exist post Gen 5 though. Sure would have been better if that everstone Haunter in Snowpoint City had been swapped with an everstone Kadabra in the Sinnoh games huh ?

I know this is old, but it's actually intentional for Alakazam! The glitch first started in Gen 3 where you could evolve Kadabra, Machoke, Graveler and Haunter whilst they hold an everstone, Kadabra is the only one keeping the ability to evolve, even if it holds the everstone. And I think the trade for the everstone Haunter is a reference to this glitch, which they intentionally kept for Kadabra.

Kadabra evolving despite its Everstone might be intentional: it's been a thing since Gen IV and hasn't changed since. My guess is that it might be because of that one case where a magician (Uri Geller) sued Nintendo because Kadabra's Japanese name was a corruption of his name. Moreover Kadabra hasn't appeared in the anime or the card game since those copyright claims, so it might be a decision from Game Freak to subtly get rid of Kadabra without removing it completely.

I’d speculate that the Ninjask with such a high speed that it subverts Trick Room is actually a type of underflow glitch, in which the speed counter reads so high that the game actually interprets it as a negative value and thus as “lower” speed than the opponent. The only question would be why this only happens in Trick Room rather than in standard circumstances, to which I would say it’s possible that values set by Trick Room are potentially what cause this underflow, like some kind of speed calculation that adds an extra value to the integer and thus causes the underflow or something. You see stuff like this a lot in gen 1 with like, Recover not working when you’re at 255 HP, or certain high leveled Pokémon stats actually wrapping back around to counting as super low numbers

gen 4 gets ignored in a series about glitches. i wonder if it's because gen 4 glitches have been view whored to death on youtube and there is literally nothing new or interesting to say about it anymore? i wonder if it's because when talking about pokemon games gen 4 almost always takes the spotlight and recieves the most accolades despite the fact that the whole thing is sub-par. i wonder if it's because people will never shut up about gen 4? gen 4 was meh to me. didn't care about it when it came out. actually might have liked it a little. the mere exposure effect has made me loathe everything sinnoh because it *never* gets passed up. it gets shoehorned in to every scenareo, whether it fits or not. for crying out loud i've seen reviews of pokemon black and white where they started talking about gen 4 for over a third of the video!

The Kadabra thing is entirely intentional, it stems from a lawsuit from a bit back about kadabra being like a magician, so he sued and now Nintendo forces Kadabra to evolve. Idk if it still is in effect today but it is in older games.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned in the comments but I'm pretty sure that Kadabra evolving while holding an everstone has something to do with the lawsuit an illusionist filed against Nintendo some time during the DPPt run, he claimed Nintendo stole his likeness when they made Kadabra and he won, because of this you can't find Kadabra in the wild, in the later games Kadabra ignores the everstone when traded and you can't cancel the evolution either and I think they haven't brought out a Kadabra card in the TCG since the lawsuit but I'm not 100% sure about that

there's also the skydrop glitch you can do in double battles. one Pokémon uses sky drop and then another uses gravity afterwards, and then the Pokémon that was targeted by sky drop can't attack (its turns just get skipped) until it faints. I did that on a friend once lmao

there is a glitch you missed! if your doing a tripple or rotation battle and 2 out of your 3 pokemon faint in the same turn yout game becomes softlocked and wont let you switch out either fainted pokemon

Now there are two glitches for black 2 and white 2. One is surfing on a tree in Pokestar Studios and theres a grass tile in the Floccesy Ranch that isnt programmed correctly which allows you to stand of top of it instead of sinking in

I’m not entirely sure this is a glitch and I know it’s been a month since you posted this, but in my copy of white, in the celestial tower floor with multiple psychics, when I’m on the tile at the top of the stairs you enter the floor on and press the b button you can switch where the physics are looking. I’m pretty sure it works through the entire room so it would be a really good speedy running tactic.

Dont know if you will still see this, but you missed one. When doing a double battle and both of your pokemon die at the same time. You can't select a new pokemon to enter the battle and therefor you are stuck and have to soft restart.

I don’t know if anyone else had this, but it was in Gen 5, if you had two Pokémon faint on the same turn during a double battle, and only had one Pokémon in your party the game would softlock, as the game demanded that two Pokémon be sent out. Think that was the setup but I had double battles softlock a fair bit during Gen 5

I would like to see a "how easy is it to catch all glitch pokemon" in red/blue or yellow. There are so many cool glitch pokemon with complicated methods of obtaining them and they never get the love they deserve. For example there is a pokemon named Q> that can fuse pokemon together and in red there is a pokemon that can let you get any item including glitch items.

Kadabra's evolution is not a glitch or oversight. In Japan, a magician sued GameFreak over Kadabra's physical features. I'm not sure which side won, but Kadabra is not affected by the everstone.

That grass glitch on route 3 is so trippy! I assume the 7 grass sprites are still locked to the 6 overworld tiles? Otherwise the map would break. I would be interested to see what happens to the sprite animations as you walk up and down on those tiles.

In BW 2 there are a few more glitches with surfing and walking in trees also the stair glitch which may also be in BW.

Gen V softlock you missed: 2/3rd of your pokemon faint in a triple battle, have 6 mons in party, can't switch in as 1st mon to switch in means that no, you are already swapping in a 'mon.

In gen 5 all you need is white2/black2, surf, and the first route in the game. You go to the stairs and go to the wall and one of the tiles you can go to the wall and go right but that's it

John, I have a good idea for a challenge. It’s “Can you beat (insert Pokémon game here) with only your starter.” It’s a good idea. I have done Pokemon diamond with only Infernape. It’s hard but rewarding.

I’ve done that with every Pokémon game possible until X and Y onwards when the exp share became awesome. The only thing hard about it is the PP consumption during the elite four (if you don’t have elixirs) and when hit by a supersonic if you don’t have anyone to switch too and that’s not really an issue when you need HM slaves in the party anyway

I have a really unique challenge for you. In any generation of Pokemon game that has 2 or more games such as ruby, sapphire, and emerald do a reverse Prof. Oak challenge and catch every pokemon before you challenge the Elite 4 and the champion
