** TODAY'S PUZZLE **
Today we return to the world of zetamath whose puzzle, Zag, we somehow haven't featured yet. This is a VERY nice sudoku combining arrows and ten-lines in innovative ways. Two of the arrows in this puzzle would stand a chance of being on the podium in the Arrow Olympics!
Play the puzzle at the link below:
sudokupad.app/LJqq7g8d8d
Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits along the orange line must be broken into one or more contiguous groups of cells that each sum to ten. Such groups cannot overlap. Digits may repeat within such sums if allowed by other rules. For example, 513173 is a valid fill for a length 6 line, because it can be broken into 5131 and 73, each of which sum to 10. Digits along an arrow sum to the digit in that arrow’s circle.
Bonus points for anyone who can name the tune in the introduction to today's video :)

A great solve from you as always my friend! You so often seem to read my mind and do things exactly how I intended, and you were spot on this time. Case in point, I was very proud of the step that the three cell box 5/6 sum at the end could not be 343 because it would break the domino in box 4. However, at that point in the solve, there is already a 3 in the box, which most solvers use to eliminate that possibility, making it even cooler that you got it the way I imagined!

"What nonsense have I propogated here?!" (Simon at 55:07). I'm going to use this line everytime I find a mistake in an attempted proof. Also, by the way, "elegant" is the highest praise that can be bestowed on a mathematical proof, argument or construction. This puzzle and solution were elegant indeed!

My break-in was just slightly different. By asking where 9 could go in box 1. Putting it anywhere on the orange line except r1c3 would require a 1 next to it in box 1. But then the 3-cell arrow breaks because the lowest it could be is 234, which sums to 9... but you already put 9 on the orange line. The rest of my solve was similar from 16:18 onwards. Thanks zetamath and Simon for the lovely puzzle and solve.

Pen tool (in a color visible against orange) is great for marking this type, you can both trace center-to-center segments along the line to indicate cells which must be the same 10-sum (similar to how Simon uses shading here) AND use your choice of either edge “x” marks or perpendicular edge lines to indicate boundaries between cells which must be in different 10-sums

Also, he does not use the shortcuts or graphic buttons for undoing previous inputs or deleting multiple pencilmarks at the same time (e.g. Ctrl + Z, Ctrl + Del, Shift + Del, or the equivalent keypad buttons). He does not really care. He prefers using longer, more time consuming, less accurate, but *more familiar* input sequences. Ages ago someone published a fun video called "How Simon Antony solves a sudoku."

I just realized that there seems to not be any word in english that explains the german word "schlicht". Simple in german means "einfach, leicht, schlicht" all together. But "schlicht" is what Simon tries to explain when he said "here is a simple point. Well, not simple but...". "Schlicht" is positive connotated. In architecture it's when you have a beautiful, easy to read and reduced floor plan for example. You'd say "It's a schlicht/simple floorplan". To any natives out there, am I right? Or is there a word for it? Because "simply beautiful" doesn't exactly mean the same imo.

17:20 UGH, how could it ever be a 1-2 pair? You'd break the arrow in box two then because even if it's a 9 in the start of the arrow. If you can't use 1 or 2, then you are left with 3-4-5, which sums to ELEVEN. I love your first logic, amazing that you were able to spot it so easily. But then it just goes out the window as "used"? We'll see in the next 30 seconds if you realize it, but i am thinking you won't and will spend time elsewhere before finally coming back to it and noticing it. EDIT: Called it, took you around 60 seconds to rediscover the same logic and now you are explaining it again.

Yeah, you need to start using a number pad. A.K.A, NUMPAD. It's too easy to hit a number that's totally wrong when you have then all 9 in a row (technically ten, counting the zero) and you keep hitting two keys at the same time ALL the time when you pencil mark and whatnot. If you don't have a numpad then you can easily get JUST a numpad and plug it in. Preferably one with bigger keys so you can't miss them. And if you DO have a numpad and is or isn't already using it, then get a separate one with bigger keys or start using the one you have. In fact, you can also get separate CTRL/SHIFT/ALT keys as a standalone device. Then you can press CTRL to highlight center marks, SHIFT to highlight corner marks and never use ALT because it's not a separate feature in Sven's software anyways. Pressing both CTRL and SHIFT lets you do colors. Maybe a feature request is in order to have ALT as a shortcut for drawing lines or circles/crosses. Either way, the last couple of puzzles i've watched have been you hitting two keys at the same time. Lucking out on the one you intended. And you've made the mistake three times in the past two puzzles where you place one digit while thinking another.

Big break for the puzzle was realizing column 6 bottom digits were all 6789. That split the 10 line between rows 8 and 9, meaning the tail end of the string was 3 dominoes.

Has something changed with how grids are displayed, particularly on mobile screens? The grid seems larger in relation to everything else on the screen, including the input panel buttons. The page seems to automatically resize, so the grid still fits on my screen, but the pop-up window with the rules is tiny and hard to read, and the input panel buttons are a lot harder to touch accurately, with being so much smaller in relation to the grid size. It doesn't appear to affect the puzzles in Mark's videos, but I've noticed it on the last two by Simon.

Do the rules as written allow one of the groups to be something like R3C6 and R4C6? It seems to me that they do but his example when going over the rules seems to indicate not.

17:26 Doesn‘t the exact same argument apply to box 2 to mean that there can’t be a 12 pair joining the 7? If it wasn’t a 3, the arrow would be 345 adding to 12. It’s so funny how Simon does the cleverest logic and forgets it a second later. (I paused the video to comment this, I’m sure he is going to spot it in “a moment or two’s time”).

They are very funny and make me happy today! 48:27 "this got to get backwards [the number]" then he place a 1 there and says: "I don't know if it joints to here or not" 54:44 "That's a 3 (places a 4) by sudoku" 57:26 " That's 7 (places a 6)" And the little arrow 2+2=4 in boxes 4 and 5!!! Thanks for the happy Simon! 😆
