You don’t need to be at 14 Volts. Easy set up in the app where you can adjust it. Some cars with smart alternators routinely drop the alternator charging below 14V at idle, so I use 13V setting on mine. You could easily set it to 13 or 12 volts charge an Ecoflow Delta directly from an RV battery bank. Good video, but would have been much better with accurate info.

If you get the 800w of output then there is no need I didn't do a current draw check on the alternator, but I have a feeling that box is boosting the 12v to 72v. If so, the current from the alternator is gonna be really low anyway. So an alt upgrade won't do anything
@WisconsinWanderer5 ай бұрын

@Niravata5 ай бұрын
I'm not so sure if the upstep from 12V input to 72V output has any influence on the load on the alternator... If you get 800W input on the EcoFlow Delta, you have to draw 800W (plus a bit of lost power for the upstep) from the alternator, otherwise you'd have invented the perpetuum mobile :) 800W from the alternator (divided by 14V) is a current of 57A ... The cable from the DC/DC to the EcoFlow Delta, assuming 72V, is 6 times lower, ie under 10A, which allows for a thinner wire...

The "complicated" part of the install is actually hooking it to your battery.

Interesting product but the list price is $599, Amazon $356 on special right now. You'll be hard pressed to find a generator that is more fuel efficient than a car engine, car engines by EPA law are forced to be extremely efficient or face fines. That's why everyone is switching to electric, cause it's getting impossible to keep up those efficiency standards, electric mpg are bogus so it's a way around that. Generators built for power don't have those standards, but they have more fuel options. Just wait till it's on special, it was $180 a month back.
@glennwisse6271Ай бұрын
@@downtube8fs you could be right but I guess it all depends on your car or truck. A v8 engine vs a Honda inverter? I’d think the Honda wins that. From what I found a Honda eu2000i burns 0.12 gallons per hour. A 4 cylinder car engine at idle burns 0.5 gallons per hour, a v8 =1 gallon per hour.
@downtube8fsАй бұрын
@@glennwisse6271I drive a diesel truck that gets over 30 mpg at highway speeds and has a 33 gallon tank for a 1,000 range. Ram 1500 ecodiesel. The cars do have some disadvantages, they have to meet really strict emissions standards that reduce efficiency. Hard to compare idle and neither will like just idling, a car at idle will still have a draw since it's running all the systems of the car. The generator will always be in the most efficient power range when you Rev it up to use it, the car is constantly revving up and down. I work with heavy diesels a lot, in the old days the tankers had pony motors or generators but everyone has moved away from that to hydraulics cause its more efficient and less weight. The semis have apu as well which is basically a generator that sips diesel vs the big heavy diesel engine, those units are costly and prone to failure also really heavy at 500-1000 lbs. The ecoflow units I have are lighter but I have yet to test efficiency vs the APUs, only charging the ecoflow while driving not idling.

It's probably the most expensive DC to DC charger available 🤔🫤 I also hate how they talk Watts no Amps lol even you got Amps ,& Watts Confused
@GearsAndTech2 ай бұрын
The problem with talking amps is its function of the voltage. Since this is pumping the voltage up higher, the amps drops but the watts increase So a 12v 15A charger is NOT the same as a 60v 15A charger The amps are the same, but because they pumped the voltage up they are getting way more watts into it And since the device we are charging is rated in watts it makes sense to talk about charge capability with watts too. But yes, even I got tripped up when I was doing teh review because we don't normally talk about watts. Since we fuse stuff based on amps
