I’ve been alternator charging my Delta 2 Max with 2 Victron Orion 12 to 24 V DC DC chargers turned up to 30V and charging through the solar input ports. I get about 850 Watts charging speed. Cost $280 + cables.
@johnnysweekends8 ай бұрын
How many amps
@Blztrls8 ай бұрын
@@johnnysweekends the Ecoflow app only shows the charge rate in Watts but you can work backwards from that to get the amps. 850Watts @30V = 28.3A at the solar inputs, @13.3V at the input to the Orion DC to DC the current is about 64A. My alternator can output more than that so I actually have a 460Ah Epoch 12V battery charging from the alternator then the battery connected to the Ecoflow through the Orion DC to DC converters. It’s a messy system but I had bought the Ecoflow Delta 2 Max before I realized what a hassle it would be to charge it from the alternator. In hindsight I would never have bought the Ecoflow unit.

@@Scat.original there’s no video I know of that details my specific method but there are some that detail how to use a 12v to 24v converter to boost the input wattage into Ecoflow or other systems. It’s fairly straightforward just get 2 Victron Orion 12V to 24 V converters, there is a dial you can turn to up the voltage to 30V. Then hook the output to the Ecoflow solar inputs using an XT60i connector. Make sure you use a genuine XT60i connector as the XT60 connector will be recognized as a low amperage connector and limit you to about 100watts. Also make sure you use thick cables on the input to the Victron Orions as it will be pulling about 70 amps. I got all my parts from Amazon.

Yes you can still hook it to battery as the alt charger also has safety features. Does the power hub (with power kit) have a feature where it can send power back to the chassis battery via alternator cable?

It can send back through the DC out at 13.6v or 70amp max. This is the same as just the normal dc out for dc loads but I guess can charge a battery as well. Although I have not tried it. I may send the DC out at 24v then to a battery charger and step down to 12v. So a 24/12V charger. Im changing my setup and getting rid of my on board solar setup for the house battery and adding more solar to dump into power kit and then dump the excess to the house from 48v to 12V so that will actually be easier. Not sure if I need alternator charging but… When I try to use standard 12v 100ah batteries to act as an expansion battery for my delta, I run into the problem of a hard limit. 12v x 8a = 84 watt, be generous and make an even 100 watt. That’s the max dc charge rate I can put into the EcoFlow from a standard battery. With this dcdc charger, I can fully utilize the EcoFlow AC output while still putting a decent amount of energy back in. Or simply letting it do its pass thru charging. It has a reverse charge voltage of 13.8 and 27.6v so it can do a 24 volt system but I dont think it will charge to 100%. Maybe 95% as charging 24v system is normally 29v for lithium and lower for AGM and lead acid. Float around 26.5v for agm and 27 for lithium. So yes!! 👍🏼

Any chance the alternator charger can plug directly into EXTRA battery and charge it independent of the Delta 2? That port looks to be the same format on both the Delta2 and the ExtraBattery? Thank you for this video you just answered a question I had sent to EcoFlow support that they said wasn't possible. I asked about the reverse charging and how that worked. Answer they sent me and I wonder if this was just an AI response if the documentation is still in the works. "Based on the information provided in our documentation, there is no specific mention or guidance on a reverse charging setup that allows the Delta Max 2 to charge house/start batteries directly. Our current product design and documentation primarily focus on charging the Delta Max 2 and its extra batteries through various methods, including solar panels, AC shore power, and alternator charging while driving." "However, your scenario of charging the Delta Max 2 while driving and then using it to charge your house/start batteries when stationary, although innovative, is not directly supported with the current design and accessories. This setup would require additional equipment, or a custom solution not provided by EcoFlow at this time." "We appreciate your innovative approach to utilizing our products and understand the convenience such a setup would offer. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will forward your suggestion to our product development team for consideration in future product designs or updates."

Great product makes me hesitant to buy the anker powerhouse 767, but a charger like this selling for 599 might be a bit pricey for what it is. Ecoflow has also released a 500w charger in some region that uses the xt60 connecter, which about 150 bucks, it is a much better deal compare with this one. But from the video this 800w charger seems to use a fanless design, probably thanks to the Gallium Nitride technology that brings less consumption. I probably wouldn't consider buying it in the short term, preferring to wait a year to get the right price or coupon.

Could I potentially use this alternator plus a Delta Pro battery hooked up in my van to have the van AC running during summer nights? Would this maintain the van 12v battery charged while using the AC? Obviously, with the engine turned off. 🤔
@johnnysweekends6 ай бұрын
You cant use this with the starter battery and engine off. You’ll quickly drain the starter battery and it wont have enough to start. Then you’ll have to reverse charge using power from DP. Starter batteries are not meant to be drained to low levels as they are damaged easily and should always be in the upper voltage range to extend life. This is a meant to charge as you drive and not used while engine off.
6 ай бұрын
@@johnnysweekends the idea would be to turn on the reverse charge and use the AC. This way, ideally, I would be draining power from the starter battery while it would be charged by the Delta Pro. Is it really not possible? This would be ideal instead of needing yet another big (big for a small van) appliance like the Wave2.
@johnnysweekends6 ай бұрын
Are you talking the vans AC system? Like the AC system while driving that comes out of the dash?
6 ай бұрын
@@johnnysweekends yeap, this one. PS: I don’t understand much about cars, I know this would quickly run dry the starter battery if left on without engine running. But as I was thinking, if the Ecoflow alternator charger can reverse charge, I would turn this function on, pulling the power from the Delta Pro to the starter battery, and use the van own AC. Now, is this possible? Would have any issues doing this? This would be amazing if possible. This is for a VW T5. So, there’s not much space to have a Delta Pro + a Wave 2 AC. If I can avoid getting the Wave 2 would be great for space saving.
@johnnysweekends6 ай бұрын
Unfortunately this is not possible. When the van is off the AC doesn’t work unless the engine is running. If you turn the key on the “fan” will work but not cold air. When the engine is running it turns a belt that the Ac unit/compressor is attached to. That’s the only way the cars AC system works is if that belt is turning. And that only happens if you turn on the engine. So unfortunately what you are trying to do wont work. Sorry…🤷🏼♂️

For my use i think id be ok with getting only 500w charging from a 100ah lifepo4 battery. But if i wanted the full 800 what is the cheapest way to make that happen? I didnt quite get the device you were using to do that. What is it, how much, and are there more than 1 type of device for that? I'm also assuming the alternator hub allows you to charge external battery with up to 800w while simultaneously charging delta 2 with a gas generator or solar or both, right? I got to get one these I've see they're down to $400 now on ecoflow's eBay store and if they drop any lower I'll be forced to buy one that's for sure. I like the fact for emergency power outages to be able to use car to charge delta 2 in case gas generator failed or use both car and gas generator at same time because I have a delt 2 and delta 2 max units. This is nifty too if I go camping and want to charge delta 2 fast fast fast. Looks like a great product!

Curious what the outcome of was for the reverse charging. Did it gradually stop charging and sense when the battery was charged in your Truck? I am contemplating if i should go this route and would be curious to know your thoughts. My setup below. Duramax Shuttle bus with dual alternators feeding a big 400-amp dual isolator with 2 start Batteries on one output and 2 House Batteries on the second output. I also have a Delta 2 Max with one extra battery with 1000 watts of solar coming in. My thought is to run everything 12v related off the House Batteries and everything AC related off the Delta 2 max. it seems like this and the reverse charging capabilities i would be able to keep my house batteries topped off with solar when the Engine isn't running. Only downside I see is not being able to use Lifepo4 batteries for the house batteries but not sure that really matters since my 12-volt load will really be low. Let me know your thoughts on that. Would love some feedback.
@johnnysweekends8 ай бұрын
This system is compatible with all battery chemistry’s and will charge the house batteries. Lithium has its own bms so it will stop charging once full. But needs the 14.4 volt to fully top off. So if it only 13.8 max then it may only charge the battery 95%. Not sure. This is still so new and in beta more updates will be coming out. And im sure maybe added features or accessories. Who knows. They added extras to the power kit so will be interesting what else this is doing in 6 months.

@jasonbroom71477 ай бұрын
@@r.kitt.3987 - Yeah, not exactly. Charging anything other than your vehicle's lead-acid battery, using the alternator, is not as simple as you seem to think it is. This isn't just about using an inverter, and connecting an inverter directly to your vehicle's battery comes with its own set of problems. This product is a lot more sophisticated than you are giving it credit for.

@@jasonbroom7147 bullshit. I've been charging my ecoflow devices off an inverter connected to my vehicle for years. All I do is scale back the amount of wattage so as not to overload the alternator. I've had zero problems.
@jasonbroom71477 ай бұрын
@@r.kitt.3987 - Yeah? How do you scale back the wattage? The EF app or settings on the device? How do you prevent your battery from being drawn down too far? I'm not saying it can't be done, or shouldn't be done, but the inefficiency is pretty absurd, when you really look at it. You're using fossil fuel to spin the alternator, which puts DC power into your SLA battery, then you convert that to AC with an inverter, which your power station converts back into DC to charge its battery. You're losing at least 20-30 percent of the actual energy being created in those conversion processes.
