I think a good idea is to have a mix of 50/50 kinetic and max rounds so that if they are wearing some kind of coat and the impact of the kinetic doesn't stop them, at least they are getting doused with the pepper. Then, especially for home defense, always have a firearm for backup

Don't know why but I kept thinking one of the kinetic rounds was going to hit the tablet on the ground. Thanks for testing the LE for us so we can have a better idea of if it's good or not ❤ I've been exposed to OC and PAVA while in the military as part of our training and this stuff is not a joke. A lot of people make fun of the LTL community for using Pepperballs and PAVA rounds, but I doubt most of them have even experienced that these chemicals will do to you. If they did, they'd know just how nasty this stuff is when used properly.

I'd love to carry my pistol here, but CCW license is such a pain, so I carry a Byrna. I will say, if a dog attacks my kid, I'm a lot less worried about the damage a hard ball would do if I hit her or over penetrate, can't say the same for a 180 grain .40 cal slug! Also, the hard balls can break side windows on cars-- if someone tried to kidnap her, busting the glass before putting a few pepperballs into the vehicle would make it difficult to hang around in.

Great video and testing. The grouping is fantastic. There would definitely be major bruising to the ribs even with the jacket. Especially if someone is skinny. Awesome the powder shots work great and do not break in the barrel. I think with this extra power the chemical rounds are going really painfully and super effective.that jacket is covered. And there was great dispersal

I will have to re-test especially when one of the inert rounds didn’t break! I’m just not sure if they share the same shell, I have had a few OC rounds crack in the magazine they seam to be a little more fragile

Just got one and videos like this makes me excited about having it. What would you recommend to have on hand. Have the pepper rounds ready to go and five rounds of kinetic, how much more do you think I need and what's the CO2 cartridge depletion?

Realistically three 7round mags is what I usually shoot with decent fps. I carry with a mix of 3 OC max and kinetic rounds but it is really a personal choice. Byrna doesn’t recommend Crosman C02 and I see some people here are having issues with their launchers after using. Thanks for dropping by and good luck!

As a Security Guard in Calif, I just ordered the SD. Now I am wondering if I should send it back when it comes and get the LE instead. Also wanted it for off duty too. Your opinion?

The SD is very nice and I used to carry it all the time but the LE is worth the extra money in my opinion, it offers much more power and a lighter trigger pull. Accuracy is slightly better also in my comparison and I think it is attributed to the longer barrel. Good Luck!

Hi! So I load mine with 2 Kinetic rounds to fire first and 5 with the max chemical rounds there after. The reason for this is in the past I loaded with the chemical rounds on top but they easily damage and leak! I honestly believe shooting the chemical rounds to the chest and letting the chemicals spread to the eyes, nose and throat where you are the most vulnerable is the best defense. I hope you never need to use it but it is always nice to have around just in case! Stay safe!!!

Is this your new favorite of the less lethal options or do you still prefer something else? Getting into this, and I'm worried the Bryna SD won't carry enough punch if someone's wearing thick clothing like a jacket so I had been leaning towards the 11 Joule tr50. Thoughts?

I don't have the HDR50, but I've got the HDP50 and HDR68 in addition to the Byrna. If you're going to shoot pepper, you may want the greater capacity the .68 cal ball carries. Also, the Byrna is much easier to reload under stress (especially if you train with a semi auto pistol regularly) versus the cylinders the HDR models use. However, I have 3D printed skirted rounds for my HDR68 and they function well, just need to get it outside for longer range and accuracy testing. Edit: the TR50 and HDR50 are pretty much the same platform. Also, you can get any power-level HDR and modify it for more flow (and therefore more velocity).

I'm in California and I would NEVER use pepper rounds for self-defense. Want to get your a$* kicked by a perp, shoot him with a pepper ball. Moreover, I have a wide range of firearms and less-lethal weapons. The one gun I will never have hanging on my armory wall, a low-powered ineffective over-priced Byrna LE. P.S. I duly note these come in a swell case. But I heard on a 60 Minutes TV show doing jailhouse interviews: the one thing perps don't fear is homeowners viciously slapping them with a Byrna case.

Hi! I own the Byrna SD and LE as well as the TCR and have never experienced a leak in any of them! The C02 is what charges the launcher in order for the projectile to fire, practice by shooting into something soft like and old blanket to keep them from bouncing back at you using the reusable kinetic rounds. The 68 caliber rounds are large enough to watch the point of impact so it is easy to adjust your aim. So far I have found the Byrna and Umarex brands to work great but do not use Crosman or you may damage the seal in the launcher.

Personally you can’t use sheet rock as a test under a jacket, not everyone has rock solid abs lol some are fluffy. Maybe try a pillow to get rear results on the bursting effect of the powder rounds

Yes I did change the C02 between tests and I have not had any leaks in either the LE or SD models but I also do not store open C02 for extended periods of time!

Just try to keep the rounds between the sternum and the forehead, perhaps an aluminum alloy ball for their junk, after the CS/Pepper combo. Slows anyone down. Aim for the sunglasses if they’re wearing a pair

Keep this in mind too, if you whip out your Byrna and the individual you're engaging has a real weapon and perceives you as a deadly threat, you may get way more than you asked for. From a distance, it has the appearance of a typical 9mm or 45, especially in all black. I believe most would benefit from a typical can of pepper spray that has a decent amount of range.

I agree the FSC has much more power! I believe the Byrna is effective with the Max chemical rounds I have been exposed to the chemical and it is really harsh! But you are right as a stand alone weapon without the chemicals it is a toy compared to the FSC.
