A ring escape would have some merit. Don't forget, Sonic lost his rings when Knuckles chased him down the mountain. Furthermore, Sonic never got the rings back and Eggman wasn't anywhere to be seen until he nabbed the compass from Tails. There's a chance that when Sonic dropped his rings, Eggman had retrieved them so he could use them himself.

Sonic was fighting Knuckles but then lost his rings off a snowy cliff, & after he & a knocked-out Tails escaped Siberia, Robotnik & Knuckles went looking for the rings & when they they found them, Ivo decided to keep the rest of em in his pockets. Actually it makes a lot of sense, since Knuckles was blindly trusting on him at the begining of the movie he problably gave him at least one ring to use in case of an emergency or something This was a really good set up coming from the writers because they can use an excuse like that in Sonic 3 if Jim Carrey comes back to replay his role or it can just be a decent enough ending for Robotnik

2:29 I don't think that's the Echidna tribe, as it was confirmed in the movie that Knuckles is the last echidna since the attack on the Owl Warriors. Those seem to be scavengers, as stated by Knuckles in the pre-quill comic by IDW. Those scavengers had rings of their own and took Knuckles to a casino world where he would be forced to challenge a giant lobster beast. Upon winning, and possibly earning a bag of rings, he asks the scavengers to help him find Sonic. So my guess is that some of those scavengers survived Robotnik's traps on the Mushroom planet and probably sent him through a ring portal. What for, exactly? I do not know, but it could be for revenge after he set up booby traps on the Mushroom planet.

It's possible that Robotnik lives by your theory, but I honestly like to think he died. (Not for anything bad but A. Don't want to pressure him into returning, and B. I feel like his arc is kind of complete.) I like the idea that he died and Agent Stone is willing to continue his mission of world domination. Much like how he followed Robotnik's rules in his comic. I feel that now that he "works" for G.U.N. he'll unlock Project Shadow. Create a team with him to collect the choas emeralds (as he may be one of the "few" people that know of them.) And you may be wondering why? He would try to avoid being in another alien and human team. Shadow is created by a Robotnik. Therefore letting Stone let his guard down and trusting his new "friend." I just love that thought. There was an interview that the actor of Agent Stone (yes I know his name I just don't want to misspell it. Knowing me I will.) were he talks about the potential his character has. I feel like it will kinda be like Starline. Who knows though. Love your theory.

I have a theory too because when Sonic used Eggman's missile to shoot the knee of the Death Egg, Agent Stone gets knocked out. But in the post-credit scene after the destruction of the Death Egg, he manages to survive the fall which means Eggman maybe had a ring and once he fell down and perhaps survived he used a ring to teleport out of the scene.

The good thing with how Eggman's end was dealt with, is that your theory works if Carrey wants to reprise the role, and don't/would be slightly altered if he doesn't want to. Honestly, I'd rather the 3rd movie take a risk and make Stone the new Eggman. Aaaaaand if we really want "Doctor Robotnik" to be back: maybe Stone can build himself a robot modelled after him --let's face it, if he could, he would lol (Also, Carrey may not want to act again, but he might be ok with voicing over a robot right?)

I think he just fell on the ground (you know like when he got launched in the sky by the beacon), and he just got back up and went on his Egg Mobile to lab that’s in The Mean Bean Coffee Shop, and started to plan on his next plan, and he probably got the mini Chaos Emeralds that were in the Master Emerald because when knuckles restored the Master Emerald, the mini Chaos Emeralds weren’t there.

Agent stone was left in the nose part of the mech, and clearly he got knocked out when sonic used robotnik's missile to shoot the leg of the death egg. My theory is when the team is searching the mech's wreckage they find stone and arrest him, then they put Agent Stone in a jail cell.

There is another obvious theory being forgotten, when Robotnik was falling, he was still wearing his digital control gloves and he could have easily summoned his eggpod or some of his drones to catch him, plus Agent Stone was seen later in the end credits scenes and so, most likely Agent Stone already knows that Robotnik has already left and on his way to release Shadow from the military base. with an IQ of over 300, Robotnik is too smart to know have a back up plan in case things go awry, something he would have learned after his first encounter in battle with Sonic.

This is a very interesting theory! However if this is actually what happened then I don’t know how SEGA and paramount would tackle it. Jim carrey announced on an interview that he may retire from acting which could turn down the possibility of this theory. Also, a bit off topic but I have an idea for content that could boost your subscriber count by lots. Maybe consider learning how to do things like cartoon animation and maybe collab with other KZbinrs for character voice acting (I would highly recommend @Jehtt as he knows loads of good voice actors) because you could have lots of recognition by making cartoon animations! Just a little suggestion!

I have had that theory for a long time since the movie premiered and it is the rings. There is no doubt about it. Eggman Will returned undoubtedly Since Master Emerald is out and the machines won’t save him, The only solution are the rings since Sonic had twelve left. It is Eggman’s now. The very rings that caused both movies to come along will be the very thing to finish off the trilogy by Eggman going to the coordinates and go Egg Walker, since Eggmobile has a possibility that it is a transformer, on everyone and everything on that place to release Shadow the Hedgehog by Sonic’s Quill. Since Eggman has 10 rings left and has 9 after saving shadow and escaping to their new base of operations, Space Colony ARK.

How Eggman find the rings are this. Knuckles told Eggman about it and they searched the rings and Eggman got Sonic’s twelve and got knuckles to explain how they are used. Ergo, that’s how Eggman survived. Out of view from super Sonic and back to Siberia snow. Where his Eggmobile is waiting and got 11 left and is bringing out Project Endgame: Shadow the Hedgehog. Eggmobile turned into Egg Walker and with the rings. Stormed the coordinated place where shadow is being held in so suspended animation. Like SA2 and got shadow out of there by password Maria and Sonic’s quill. And they escaped to Space Colony Ark. where it would take a long time to clean up all of the dirt and garbage for the last 50 years. And the time for Sonic Movie 3 is 2022. After the Batman movie where riddler won. And in the timeline from which it is basically present day. Until the Eggman takeover to blow up stars.
