I disagree that people defend the mega-wealthy because they believe they will be rich someday. Some of them probably do, but really it's like people who defend monarchy. They genuinely believe, as a matter of civic and/or nationalistic pride, that some people just deserve more privileges than others. Let's make it simple to understand for you. Say I own 1 million shares of my company and the stock price is 1 dollar. If investors (of all types) decide to invest in my company by purchasing shares and drive the price up to 3 dollars per share, now the total value of my shares went from 1million to 3 million. I theoretically increased my net worth by assets by 2 million dollars; however, I don't actually have any cash. I would have to sell those shares to receive the cash and would lose ownership in my company.

So, I am a mathematician. It is extremely hard to tax wealth. There is already an established mechanism to tax homes. We don't have that for wealth in general. Why? Because wealth consists of a million different things. It is hard to track all of it and determine its value. This is just not worth the effort. Also wealth changes its value all the time. How would you even manage those changes? Do you want to return the tax money when that happens? And then collect the tax again when the value goes up? It's much easier to tax their wealth when they sell (or buy) it, which they have to do at some point. Also, 40% of federal taxes is paid by top 1%. 30% of federal taxes is paid by the bottom 90%. So, income and capital gains taxes work! Now, if you want to reduce their wealth, you will have to tax their income at a much higher rate (all forms of income). That way, they would build less wealth and have to sell their wealth sooner.

He makes only a profit, if his stocks grow faster than the interest rate of the loan. This is very risky and unlikely. Is there another process? 3. He didn't take the loan to avoid taxes. The loan was for the business. People who open a business take often a loan. This is pretty normal! 4. The value of his stocks isn't taxable! But when his credit makes a profit, he will pay taxes. So everything is fine! I think most people think it's unfair that Elon Musk can take a loan for his stocks. If that was your point, you criticized the wrong thing. Anyone who owns securities can take out a loan. I find it unfair too, but I have no idea how to change that.

I used to like Elon because I was really on board with his gigafactory project. I felt it was a really good idea towards becoming renewable but that time has passed. First, i feel it's taking more time than it should to complete them, like hes taking his sweet ass time. Then there there was all his absolute stock manipulation on Twitter. When rich people talk about stocks, they go up or down depending on the tone of what's said and he definitely knows that. He bad mouths Bitcoin on Twitter, it's stocks go down. He uptalks dogecoin on Twitter, its stocks go up. He made his "Tesla stock selling at $420" joke on Twitter, Tesla stocks went up. Then he gets rich during the pandemic and gives back nothing, doesn't really help any organizations that help people. And finally, which I was not aware of, he's against raising taxes on the rich. Now I knew that he thought doing it was a dumb idea because rich people just use legal loopholes to avoid paying them, but I didn't realize he was outright against legitimate forms of taxing the rich like possibly eliminating those loopholes. I've never liked the ultra wealthy, but Elon's message just seemed different than even Bill Gates and his "finding a cure for Malaria" philanthropy. I've always thought that was total bullshit and the pandemic made me realize just how bad it is. Sure he wants to find a cure for Malaria, but based on his lobbying the government to not give the vaccine recipe to poor countries that can't pay for it, he definitely only wants a malaria vaccine so he can sell it. He has no interest in "helping" people who deal with malaria, if only to make them worship him as their savior (his Epstein interview on pbs was a god send 😆) But now I've come to realize Elon just masquerading behind his awkwardness and is just another another ultra rich capitalist.
