As a Mechanical Engineering student this is incredibly interesting and fun to watch! Great video as always Seth. But, seing engineers use imperial units instead of SI units just... hurts.
@spoonlesscorey16282 жыл бұрын
Its all too common. I’m an engineer in the aviation industry, and everything is in imperial. Our turbo-machinery guys even use Rankin in all their engine calcs. Its just something you’ll have to get used to. I personally just do all my work in SI and make the conversions when I write reports or make drawings.
@RockyPondProductions2 жыл бұрын
@@spoonlesscorey1628 Making conversations all the time is a sure-fire way to introduce error into your analysis. It is best to work with the original units because that is the way things were designed. NASA lost a $100 million plus space craft due to similar reasons

Man, that was super interesting! As a 150 pound guy, I've blown through 2 forks. First one was a "Next" WalFart special, so no surprise there. The upper stanchions cracked and sent the wheel out front from, I guess, jumping too hard. Second one was a RockShox Judy fork. Somehow I managed to break the bridge connecting the 2 lower stanchions, so my wheel went all kinda of floppy. I'm currently rocking a Fox Float 32, but I'm kinda paranoid sometimes because I can feel a decent bit of flex sometimes. Been casually considering upgrading to a Stepcast 34.

I work on BMW motorcycles and I've 3D printed jigs and fixtures for doing fork services easier. We do have factory tools but my jigs just accompany those and make the job a lot faster, easier and cleaner. We also custom machined adapters for changing springs on ESA rear shocks. I'll definitely be stealing the mid-bench basin idea because for draining, we currently use a soft jaw vise on the edge of a bench and a drain pan on the floor.

Something I'd be interested in (let's face it 99% of this show is!) would be cheapest non-brand pads on 180 rotors with 4 pot and top of the line brand name pads on 160 with 2 pot, or that sort of combination, how much braking power can be gained or lost using different pads. Would take a little ironing out, but the base idea is there.
