How "Essence" affects the way you play Ninja Gaiden

The Essence mechanic in Ninja Gaiden exists primarily to facilitate the continuous use of UTs, provide occasional healing opportunities, and reward the player with bonus in-game currency. But, this mechanic is responsible for much more than that, and I believe it actually plays a significant role in creating the distinct combat flow Ninja Gaiden is known for, especially the first game.
In this video, I explore some of the lesser-known ways in which Essence interacts with and challenges the player's combat abilities.

Thank you man. I watched JayTb Ninja Gaiden for Beginners video and he never quite did make me understand this UTOL(hope I get it right) stuff. Watching you explain and show in combat situation is really helpful. A few Trials session and damn, I'm not button mashing while jumping and hoping it lands. Great video. I consider Ninja Gaiden Black to be the best action game ever made. It's in my top 5 video games of all time alongside OG RE4, Super Metroid, Super Mario Bros 3, and Breath of the Wild.

I don't remember if it differs in black but in sigma the orbs doesn't come your way if you keep attacking but rolling will make the orbs get absorbed by ryu

Isnt the biggest problem with holding block all the time the fact that you will just get destroyed by enemies grabbing you?

Plus i think the essence system if kinda flawed its never better to absorb it normally and the playwrs with the most karma pretty much exclusivley spam UT's from essence and i thini it would be much better if techniques charged faster all arpund and didnt go a stage higher with absoprtion which would in turn make players have to time their UT's instead of chaining them from essence

Another solution would be to have enemies not drop Essence when killed by an ET or UT. The Essence that would normally drop would instead be directly added to Ryu's total Essence count. That way, chaining ETs and UTs one right after another would no longer be viable.

@@harlannguyen4048 that's also a good idea but I think making UT's a bit stronger all around and removing the essence absorption is a better move
