This is a interesting explanation of different types of estuaries. But some in the North of Europe don't fit well. If the mouth of a river open like a funnel and there is tidal influence, you see estuaries too. Even when there is no fjord e.g. at Thamse, Elbe, Weser. The tide press salt water in any river, if the land is flat an low laying. So it is the case in the North European plain.

Forty kilometres south of Thiruvananthapuram, there is a beautiful estuary. The place is known as Poovar. The sand bar is huge, both in length and breadth. Horses race around on the sand bar. There are many tourist resorts around this estuary.

Very good. There may be another mechanism where mangrove create stable barriers that trap fresh water on the landward side. The tide adds the saltwater. Rain and land flow adds the fresh water. Storm damage can also create temporary barriers of flotsam that are colonized to form a mangrove later. The sand bar process may follow normally. There are a few places in Australia where this explains the bars position rather than just wind and wave action.

What about estuaries such as the Thames Estuary or the St-Lawrence Estuary? These rivers widen so much as they approach the sea, that during high tide, salt water is pushed upstream and mixes with the fresh water flowing downstream. The St-Lawrence become brackish east of Quebec City. At Rimouski the river is already 50 km wide. The river is so wide, there is a counter-current along the north shore. A cold water current enters the Gulf of St-Lawrence at the Straight of Belle-Isle (between Newfoundland and Labrador). This cold current hugs the north shore of the gulf and estuary until it reaches the mouth of the Saguenay River. There the cold salty water mixes with the warmer fresh water flowing from the Saguenay, then with the warmer brackish water from the St-Lawrence above Tadoussac, and this mixed water then flows out to sea along the southern part of the estuary. The blending of warm fresh and cold salty water at the mouth of the Saguenay makes for a very productive area where whales gather and feed during the summer.

Leech is a blood sucking wet land living being. Leach is a word related to the act of percolation. Am I correct?
