We started with the holy rosary every night and it’s been going on for about 3 years. That’s with a 16 yr old, 5 yr old and 1 yr old. It doesn’t always go well but I’m sure Our Blessed Mother smiles at our dedication. We have a family altar dead center with different color liturgical season cloths with an enthronement to The Immaculate Heart of Mary and The Sacred Heart. We have candles, a pic of the holy family, Saint Michael. We also do the Our Lady of the Rosary Catechism everyday. I bless my kids before bed with the Glory Be in Latin. It’s sometimes difficult but it gets done. I pray that my kids keep these traditions! We also have the Immaculate Heart of Mary statue in the front yard.

A movie that I watched many years ago was Courageous. It was a story of how a father learned from his dysfunctional past to become a man of God and of his family. We as church have a judaic tradition where men have been the leaders of faith in their families. I remember going up and my grandfather would say grace before meals. A question I now have, is that as parents (I'm a priest) are the first teachers of the faith and what happened to this concept of husbandry that many other cultures and religions still have and we Catholics no longer practice?

You can't love someone you don't know. So parents, be encouraged to read the Gospel of the day with your children to grow in love for Christ. Meditate on it with them and each one raise a prayer to God the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit. It bears excellent fruits in the way of living the faith and seeing the events of one's life, the world and the church. God bless your apostolate. Greetings

We do the rosary prayer every day evening as a family. Our kids join us and we do read the Bible and bless each other for being a blessing to each other.

Thank you for the inspiration. Awesome session on leading our domestic church 👏👏. Our family tradition: I used to do a liitle "examen of conscience" with my 2nd grade & 4th grade kids before we do the family night prayer. We did reflections of the day on: what we've grateful for, what kindness we've done, and what mistakes / regrets we've done. Anyway, Pater Noster is a great idea 👍.

These folks talking about putting the kids to pray never go through how exactly it looks like when you have a rambunctious toddler… What am I shoot for here? Not dropping the rosary in the floor while floating around the room? No floating around the room? I need more concrete information, talk to me like the Aspie I am, please!!!

Thanks for the comment. Perhaps not in this video, but I assure you in other videos we do. I know I have humorously called the family Rosary an occasion for sin at times. There is merit and Grace in the pursuit and the growth as a family in prayer. It takes on many dimensions from practical tips (like using candles and artwork to help engage a child, to placing your toddler on your lap for a week of fussing until they begin to understand how the family acts during this specific prayer time), to how you and your spouse respond with patience and meekness to your children, to better understanding their developmental milestones, even if they are ones that you and your spouse discern together (i.e. at this age we will require them to vocally pray with us). Here is another episode in which we go into other high-level thoughts about praying together as a family - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hp7bqaVoh9ebrrs God bless you and your family!
