Making it to 90 years of age back in the early 1800s is a milestone in itself

It was more common than you think. The average life expectancy was dragged down significantly by deaths at birth and kids died from diseases more often. There were plenty of people who still lived long lives

It wasn't all that unusual that the average life expectancy down was how hard it was to survive childhood. And if you were a woman, childbirth. If you did that then if you were a member of the Upper middle classes or upper class then your chances of reaching late 70s early 80s were pretty good. Average age at death of a population doesn't necessarily tell you too much about how long an individual would live.

@@ganrimmonim Class was key. Today people often think that old-time peasant life was a gift from heaven (organic everything...) but it wasn't. 90 years ago my grandfather worked in villages that were 100% tuberculosis infected and/or 100% syphilis infected. Very fee people made it past 40. They never saw their grandparents. For good or for bad, all the area was flooded and is now deep below reservoir waters.

James K. Polk, the 11th President of the United States, did not die from an overdose. He died of cholera morbus, a term used in the 19th century to describe acute gastroenteritis. This illness, often caused by contaminated water or food, led to severe diarrhea and dehydration, which were the primary causes of his death. His health had been declining for some time, and his death came just a few months after leaving the presidency in 1849. There is no historical evidence to suggest that his death was due to an overdose of any substance.

- Polk had cholera - Jefferson had diarrhea, toxemia, and uremia, as well as pneumonia - Garfield, to be more specific, seemed to be recovering following the shooting, and then septic shock from the doctors’ procedures set in (Guiteau was hanged) - McKinley had gangrene from the stomach wound that set in (Czolgosz was electrocuted) - JFK was killed instantly (Oswald was shot in the stomach by Jack Ruby) - Nixon seemed to be recovering after his stroke until cerebral edema did him in - Ford had CAD resulting from atherosclerosis - Carter has advanced melanoma that is likely to kill him before he turns 100 sadly. Because of his wife’s passing, he will not last much longer. - Reagan had Alzheimer’s disease that led to pneumonia. To clarify, Alzheimer’s primarily affects mental abilities, but late-stage Alzheimer’s affects the physical self, killing speech and movement. Oh, and he survived an assassination attempt like Roosevelt Sr.

There's a numbering problem that starts with Grover Cleveland. Since he served two non-consecutive terms, Congress determined that Presidential administrations must be unbroken. Since Cleveland served two SEPARATE four-year terms, each of those is considered to be a different administration. Did a little number's crunching on the average ages. First 10 presidents had the highest average age of over 78 yrs old (Washington to Tyler); Next 10 was only an average of 64 yrs old (Polk to Garfield); Next is 66 yrs old (Arthur to Hoover); And the most recent president's average age of only the presidents who have passed is just over 70 years old! What's up with the good ol boys and their good health and the least medical technology?!

George H.W. Bush didn't die from Parkinson's- no one does although it can increase risk of death. He died from vascular Parkinson's disease which shares many but not all symptoms but, most importantly, can be the sole cause of death due to it's localized effects on the vascular system in the brain. It also tends to be caused by small strokes whereas typical Parkinson's seems to develop without an immediate cause

Just a fun fact about Coolidge: Did you know that he shares a birthday with one of my family members? My daughter, Isabella, was born on July 4th 2010. Calvin Coolidge, of course, was also born on July 4th (but in 1872, I know) which means they both have the same birthday. By the way, Isabella is now 13 years old.

Your numbering of the Presidents is off after Benjamin Harrison. Grover Cleveland served as the 22nd President AND the 24th President, so every President's number AFTER that is incorrect. 25th - William McKinley 26th - Theodore Roosevelt 27th - William Howard Taft 28th - Woodrow Wilson 29th - Warren Harding 30th - Calvin Coolidge 31st - Herbert Hoover 32nd - Franklin D. Roosevelt 33rd - Harry S. Truman 34th - Dwight D. Eisnehower 35th - John F. Kennedy 36th - Lyndon B. Johnson 37th - Richard Nixon 38th - Gerald Ford *39 - Jimmy Carter (still living) 40th - Ronald Regan 41st - George H. W. Bush *42nd - Bill Clinton (still living) *43rd - George W. Bush (still living) *44th - Barack Obama (still living) *45th - Donald Trump (still living) *46th - Joe Biden (still living and currently serving)

Grover Cleveland was both the 22nd and the 24th President of the United States because his two terms were non consecutive. Benjamin Harrison was the 23rd of the United States. William McKinley was the 25th President of the United States, not the 24th. The presidents from William McKinley to the current president should be one higher, beginning from 25th to 46th.
