I've heard it said that while Grant was suffering from the cancer, he described the sensation he felt while drinking a cup of water as "pouring a vial of molten lava down my throat" or something along those lines. One of the reasons I adore Grant so much is that this is the time when he was writing his memoirs because he wanted to do anything he could to help provide for his wife after he was gone. The guy was suffering unbelievable agony, knew he was going to die soon, yet he spent 12+ hours a day writing, with no guarantee that it would actually amount to anything, just because he wanted to do anything he could to see to it that his wife had some support after he died. He would sadly die only 3 days after he finished writing and to say that his efforts paid off would be a huge understatement. Grant's memoirs is one the most successful books in American history. Grant is my personal favorite president in American history. He was a hell of a man and his is a legacy that all men should strive to live up to.
@almac6642 ай бұрын
Do you know that Grant as commander of the Union force instructed them to burn every farm they came across. Kill, maim (some would r a p e the women) as they marched south after the surrender of General Lee. Regardless of who's side you are on, or what values you believe to be righteous; those acts were heinous and down right demonic. Yes our country survived after the Civil War; but Grant was no saint. Neither side acted noble to be fair, both sides treated POWs with disdain; but Grant did much worse in my opinion, because surrender had done been established; and innocents were brutally attacked.

He was also doing his writing with no painkillers, as the only available one was opium that made him too sleepy and clouded his mind. He'd write for as long as he could bear the pain, eat some bread soaked in milk because it was about the only food he could swallow, and only then take the opium so he could sleep and start over the next day.

A lot of those presidents died from heart problems or strokes...stress can often be a contributing factor to heart attacks and stroke. That is scary to think. Look at how they aged in just a few years in office. A lot of us like to talk trash about the presidents for not doing a good job, but just take a moment to realize how difficult a job it must be. Polk's last words brought tears to my eyes. He passed peacefully, while being able to spend his final moments alone with his wife of 25 years, whom he professed his eternal love to before going. Nothing else was more important to him in his final moments besides his wife. No doubt the love they had was real, as she stayed a widow for 42 years after until her death. Makes sense why it was the last thing he wanted to say and for her to know before she could never hear him say it again. An incredibly sweet and lovely way to pass.

I doubt that anybody will believe me, but Mr. Beat was my economics teacher in high school. He gave us an assignment where we had to write a song parody but about economics. I did a Neil Young song about Fredrich Hayek and Milton Keynes, he was quite pleased with the choice of artist. One of the coolest teachers I ever had, along with a history teacher from the same school. I clicked this video because the topic was right up my alley, I did a triple take when I saw who it was. I knew he did videos back then, but I never expected him to pop up in my recommended with over 500k views. @@gailbirchall2163 he did not have to do anything. He was part of it. See the KZbin video of a conversation with his mistress. She said he told her that after tomorrow the Irish problem would be over. He was a big womanizer. A creepy thought, but true. I have seen it a couple of times. There is also one where the telephone operator at Parkland Hospital took a call from him asking if the president was dead. He did not say who he was and he did not disguise his voice. Every Texan knew him and his voice. He called three times. From the time this happened when I was 8 years old I always believed he was part of it. That is why Oswald had to die. I have thought for a long time that LBJ, J. Edgar Hoover, and George HW Bush were part of the group. Bush was working with the CIA recruiting Cuban fighters and was in Dallas that day. He was working between Houston and Miami during the week.
@gailbirchall21632 жыл бұрын
@@Maya-bu2rf I totally, totally agree with you, and did not know of the mistress and telephone calls. Oswald had to go, and it was obvious that the shooting of him was staged at the police station. Ruby just happens to have a gun on him, just happens to meet face-to-face with Oswald, on the right day, the right hour of the day, the right area. Old Slinky in his limo said it all when he slumped down in the back seat when turning into the plazza, leaving his wife open to a stray bullet. The U.S administration and U.K have a great deal of blood upon their hands, and are not above having people murdered, as with Kennedy, and I strongly suspect Lincoln, that Lincoln had to go, and a way was made for him in the Ford theatre
@Maya-bu2rf2 жыл бұрын
@@gailbirchall2163 I watched a history detectives show where they went into the National Archives and found letters written by Lincoln to get an Army Quartermaster off court martial charges twice. He did it as a political favor and even says he hopes to get votes from Mississippi because of this. He was afraid he would not be re-elected. The Quartermaster was getting Union soldiers onto paddle boats to ship them up the Mississippi River to get them home after the war. This was ten days after the death of Lincoln. The boat was built for about 300 passengers. In his greed he put 2000+ soldiers and some civilians onto a boat called the Sultana. It sank due to overcrowding and about 1800 people died. No one was blamed and charged. The detectives said there was more than enough evidence to impeach Lincoln so they thought he would prefer to be dead! I saw it on Amazon prime tv. I have a friend who was related to Dr. Mudd who helped John Wilkes Booth by setting his leg. What I do not understand is if he had a broken leg how did he get away from the theater? I was always a history fan, but I never heard of the sinking of the Sultana until the show.

While I don't deny how some people blindly "shove this down people's throats," please know that many evangelize out of good intentions! That means we just want to share the faith we rejoice in with you as well. That aside, if seeing an evangelizing comment didn't change your heart about Jesus, then I'll take a different approach and just pray for you by myself; I'll pray that you have great days ahead of you and that one day you'll consider visiting a church! :)

JFK's last words are incorrect. He actually said "My God, I've been hit" as the first bullet hit the street and caused fragments to hit him before the second shot hit him in the back and coming out his neck.

Repent and trust in Jesus. He's the only way to Heaven. We've all sinned and deserve Hell. Sins like lying, lusting, etc. Repent and trust only in Jesus, and you will be saved! You can be saved because he took the punishment for our sins on himself when he died on the cross, just like someone can pay your speeding fine in court, and you get off free. funfact: JFK and Lincoln had many parallels/similarities surrounding them. Here are a few: Both were elected to congress in '46: Both were elected to the presidency in '60: Both have seven letters in their last names ("Lincoln" and "Kennedy"). Both were concerned with civil rights Both lost a son while living in the White House Both sons' names. William Wallace Lincoln and Patrick Bouvier Kennedy have 21 letters each Both were shot on a Friday: Lincoln was shot on Good Friday, April 14, 1865, and Kennedy was shot on Friday, November 22, 1963. Both were assassinated by Southerners. John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in a theatre and was caught in a warehouse. Oswald shot Kennedy in a warehouse (Oswald was) and was caught in a theatre. Both of the presidents' successors were named Johnson: Lincoln was succeeded by Andrew Johnson, and Kennedy was succeeded by Lyndon B. Johnson. Both were succeeded by Southerners: Andrew Johnson was from Tennessee, and Lyndon B. Johnson was from Texas. Both of their VPs has the same number of letters in their first and last names Both successors were born in '08: Andrew Johnson was born December 29, 1808, and Lyndon B. Johnson was born August 27, 1908 Both assassins, John Wilkes Booth and Lee Harvey Oswald, are known by their three names. Each assassin's full name is composed of fifteen letters. Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theatre. Kennedy was shot in a Ford car: a Lincoln limousine. and some more
