approximate costs for a PPL these days seems to be between $13k-$20k+, ymmv

What average total flight time (dual/solo) at the time of checkride are you using? The FAA minimum is 40 hours, but stating the average is 75 hours.

I got my PPL last year and it was right around $14k, about 45hrs

@@FlyingSenior yeah right around 40-70 hours. I think when I got mine as a ballpark estimate it was probably around 55 dual and 15 solo

How much would flying an ultralight save you compared to a conventional plane in both the purchase price and cost per hour?

Flying an ultralight would be little to nothing because you only need a drivers license to fly those

Well mojo Grip I got my license serval years ago. I found a grate instructor & progressed faster than i previous had. Well I completely ran short of money. I thought I could just start over i could get recertified. Well I thought it would be easy. This took a lot longer than i expected. Then as it cost more than i had. Handling The plane was not as hard as when i first started. I thought I was making grate progress. So i gave up. Now it locks as starting over was not as easy as I thought. Paul J. Lewis

incredibly expensive I am over 45k dollars in and just getting scheduled for my check ride for my PPL. School that I am at just went up in price to $226/hr for g1000 Cessna 172 Skyhawks....Ridiculous

Yea unfortunately that's what's happening all around. rental cost has doubled in many cases and I think the approach to teaching can be modified to help the student learn faster and save some money.
