I lived in this enchanting country for 7 years and it's between Asia and Europe it is not Middle Eastern, I think that was named by some American years ago. I wanted you also to mention how clean the streets are for such a big city with millions of people! Some of the best markets in the world. I left my ❤ in Turkey! The country, the people, the culture n the food are extremely superb! The country you could never get tired of, So much to see and do it would take you and lifetime!This🇺🇸❤🇹🇷

I lived in Istanbul for 9 years, most of the time in Kadiköy, and also near Istiklal. We hardly saw anything interesting in this video - just the prices of a couple of durum in Taksim (very expensive - they’re 5 on the pier in Kadiköy) No sit down meal - like soup and vegetable dishes in one of the many cafeteria style restaurants, or a nice fish and meze dinner in the restaurant street in Kadiköy (same street as the market) which is chock full every night. There are also some nice places ( if you know where to go) in Sultanahmet - where all visitors have to go in order to see the most important sights - and some have amazing views. On the whole, a very disappointing video.

Depends on what part of Turkey you are in. Istanbul is the most secular part of Turkey that most 'modern' Turkish move to. If you go to other parts of the country, it is quite different and more typically 'Islamic' ... With that said, you can still find very traditional areas in Istanbul, such as Uskudar.

The vegan falafel place on Istiklal at 5:40 I wanted to go to so bad but for a vegan the city has so much great and cheap food to offer that I barely got to scratch the surface. One thing about the ferry, bus, subway etc: if you buy an Istanbul Card you save 30 - 40% on all of your rides! I would recommend Büyükada Island just for the ferry ride alone and in the summer it is super colourful with all the flowers etc so I'm not sure how things look like in late fall.

Turkey is NOT part of Middle East. Here is why: 1-Middle East name is used by people for politics. If Turkey have problem with EU countries They say Turkey is Middle East but if Turkey don`t have problem with them, Turkey is European country. 2-If you think Turkey in East, Cyprus is more eastern country than Turkey but they are in EU. 3-Almost Middle East countries don`t have democracy but Turkey has and democratic activities started in 1839. 4- In Middle East, generally women and men not equal! And women can`t vote,can`t be president, even can`t drive.can`t date. in Turkey women and men equal and They can vote, can be president(We had women presidents before),study,drive etc, since 1930. 5- In Middle East you can`t identify yourself gay. but in Turkey you can identify, and you can be member of LGBTI, 6- In Middle East , you can`t be atheist, you have to believe God and even you`t argue about God, In Turkey, you can be atheist or you can believe anything what you want. 7-In almost all Middle East, you can`t drink alcohol but in Turkey, you are free , nobody interfere that. 8-If you think Turkish culture has similar thing with Arabs, that`s true but we have also common culture with Greeks,Bulgarians,Albanians.Romanian even Serbians. Because Ottoman Empire was huge and had many community. I can say that easy because i had roommates from those countries. And aslo Turkish background is from Middle ASIA(Turkic countries) not from Middle East. As a Turk i identify myself Anatolian or Asian. Turkey geographically in Europe and Asia, this is truth. Gabriel please tell truth at your next videos :) Thank you.

Many of the things you've mentioned aren't exactly truthful. For one, present day Turkish people descend from Turkics of Central Asia. (these people were not of European descent, nor did they have a European cultural affiliation). They usurped land inhabited by 'European' people, with predominaintly 'European' culture. European culture was 'replaced' with Turkic culture. Remember the Ottomans were the last islamic caliphate in the world, before their fall at the end of WW1, your historical leaders were sultans from the Islamic world, entirely devoid of European influence and it was only after the defeat of the Ottomans that Ataturk tried to modernise your country and used many European influences to do so, forcing people to wear European styles of dress, secularism, democracy, etc. Before so, your country declared a Jihad on Europe. Yes, present day Turkish people are an admixture of different haplogroups from both the original turkics and the original European inhabitants of the area. (You only have to contrast the physical appearance of people from Trabzon and Adana to see their genetic differences) but culturally I don't believe you have any similarities with Europeans, and that is why people refer to Turkey as Middle Eastern - it is not a geographical reference, but a cultural one. Also, your reference to womens rights in Turkey is a bit disingenous. Let us consider the fact that for a Women in Turkey to make a complaint againts a man, she must pay money to the Police in order to be heard, or the case that sexual assault against a women isn't against the law. I'm not trying to bag on Turkey, I have good Turkish friends and have lived there before.
@cihada7670

Dear Aguafria, I think you got me wrong. 1- I didn`t identify Turkish people as a European. I mean "if you identify Turks Middle Eastern because of cultural similarity with arabs, we have similarity but it doesn`t enough for saying `Turkey is Middle East`. Because we have similar cultural also with european people like greeks, bulgarians, serbians, romainans, albanians. You don`t believe that we have any similar culture with those people? Believe it or not but we have many common words, foods, musics, ethics etc with them . I had roommates from Romania,Bulgaria and from Serbia and now i am living very close to Greek area. But as i said before i identify myself Asian(west asia) or Anatolian. Not Europian or Middle Eastern. 2- Ataturk modernized my country. I am grateful to him. But he just tried to adapt for "New World". We can`t say European style , we can say Western. because the World was not globalized and publics were wearing different in 1800`s . After industrial Revolution, people were urbanized and started to wear new things. It started from west that`s why i am calling that `western`. But also after urbanized in Asia, Asian people started to wear `western` fashion thing . It doesn`t mean Asians try to be European or Western. It result of global World. 3- " a Women in Turkey to make a complaint againts a man, she must pay money to the Police in order to be heard, or the case that sexual assault against a women isn't against the law." WHATTTTT? TOTALLY WRONG. Nobody(men or women) must pay anyting to police order to be heard. "the case that sexual assault against a women isn't against the law." Please kill me instead of say that. Probably you can`t read Turkish but you can see at Turkish law "TCK m.105/1" I used Google Translate for explaining you this rule> "A person who harasses a person for sexual purposes is sentenced to imprisonment from 3 months to 2 years or a judicial fine. However, if the action is committed against a child, the offender shall be sentenced to imprisonment of between 6 months and 3 years. and last one ! Turkish law member of "European Court of Human Rights" I know you`re not trying to bag Turkey but you need search someting before talk.

The term "Middle East" may have originated in the 1850s in the British India Office. However, it became more widely known when American naval strategist Alfred Thayer Mahan used the term in 1902 to "designate the area between Arabia and India". During this time the British and Russian Empires were vying for influence in Central Asia, a rivalry which would become known as The Great Game. It has been called ANATOLIA since ancient times. This is Anatolian and it means the place where the sun rises, the place where civilization rises. The real name of the region, which is known as the middle east today, is MESOPOTAMIA. Turks (in general) feel much closer to Mid-East than Europe, based on their common belief, Islam, and the mid-east daily culture that comes with Islam. However, what is often underlooked, there is a good 30% of Turkish population (that is roughly 25 Million people) which cannot identify themselves with the Islamic / Mideast Culture. Today`s Islamic Turks (see Erdogan and his followers) call us as "White Turks", sort of to degrade us. I am one of them. Founder of Turkey, Ataturk, was one of us too. He changed Turkish alphabet from Arabic script to modern Latin Alphabet, changed how people dress, and many more. He saw Turkey`s future in West / Europe. So, we are often overlooked as Islamic Turks / Erdogan are always in power. White Turks (our new name Islamics call us to separate from themselves) usually live in coastal areas of Turkey whereas Islamic Turks dominate inner Anatolia. For me and people like me, we feel closer to especially Southern European people like Greeks, Italians, Spanish, etc, compared to Arabic / Mideast Culture. Such culture-wise closeness to Southern Europeans happens naturally, it is a Mediterranean thing, I can not describe. Now, when asked, we would say we are Muslim, too. But usually what separates is that, we can drink alcohol if we want. So, we are often forgotten among all videos, vlogs about Turkey that depicts a Muslim culture. But I would like to see videos showing us as well, not just Muslim Turks of today`s Turkey.

Turks are definitely not Middle Eastern, Turkic languages and cultures span from Mongolia till Turkey. Turks have a cultural bonds in Asia. They are Anatolian/Asian, and geographically, Turkey is the centre of the world so it's hard to call it east or west. This is rather important as calling the Turks Middle Eastern may signify unexisting cultural similarities with the Arabs, which is a completely different ethnic/political group.
