Thanks again for a great video. I came to Alaska as a single person, fast forward 17 years and we are a family of 5 thats been on a single income for many years. You can make it work. Sometimes you just have to get creative! But its a wonderful place to live...most of the time!

As an Alaskan, it really depends on how you choose to live and your choices.

Currently stationed at JBER AK, house hold of 7. It is really expensive to live here for us, and thats without trying to buy a big enough house for all of us.

@@tristenmcgillem4834 What would you say your biggest expense is (outside of housing)?
@Scheib90713 күн бұрын
I live 5 minutes from jber . Going out to eat and just go to leave the house is expensive. But are rates for work is much higher I believe .

Anchorage is much cheaper than salt lake area BUT groceries are a bit higher. The big one is medical. Procedure that's 12k at U of U is 116000 (monthly dialysis). My glasses were 400 in UT. 1700 here. Make sure you have good health insurance up here!

That's a really good point! If you can just keep your food costs lower, you have a good chance of making it work.

What about stem jobs?

There's going to be a greater demand for them as the oil field is developed more. I couldn't say for sure what the demand is now, but I do know that once that occurs, you will be much better off.

Honestly, when I go up to alaska, I feel like I save money on quite a few things compared to Washington, where I live. 🤔

That's an interesting perspective to have. I think it really comes down to what you spend money on.

I agree I think it's like traveling to a foreign country...there's a tourist area and then where you actually shop.

The cost of basic living needs kills Alaska for me. Food, gas, and healthcare. Housing seems to be decently priced imo. Add the crime and longer winters of darkness. lm staying in the West...

My condo rent in Anchorage is 2095. A more dated one in UT is w850 (my sons) and vehicle cost is much cheaper here.
