How expensive is it to own a Nissan GT-R? Total cost of ownership [TCO]

I sold my 2009 Nissan GT-R after owning it for 4 years, 7 months and 24 days. I've driven 23,810 km on this DBA R35 Nissan GTR model.
As is customary, I will list all the costs I've had with the car including purchase and sale price and make a total cost of ownership calculation. This is to illustrate that you neither have to be a millionaire or a mechanic in order to be able to afford to own a sports car or a more exotic car, like a Nissan GT-R. Or to answer the question: "How expensive is it to own a Nissan GT-R?"

I am impressed with that numbers. For a longer time im thinking about buying something nice with power that nobody really needs, but i’m always afraid that afterwards cant sell the car anymore or loose too much money. I always thought its complicated to sell a „higher“ priced used car as a privat person. How long did it take you to sell the gtr?

I sold the car 4 days after putting up the ad to the first person coming to see the car. I had 3 more that were interested but I did not even reply to them as the contract was already signed. And I put the ad on a site that does not have that much traffic on purpose, so I would not be spammed by too many requests. It was the cheapest GT-R in Switzerland at that point. Some people (like me) prefer to buy from a private seller. Not only do you usually get a better price and more room for negotiation but more importantly you can actually inquire about the car and get a feeling for the type of person who owned it and how they treated the car.

'upgrades' are 100% necessary for any car guy's car. on my cars, I usually do all interior/exterior LED lights, it they are not there yet and replace/refinish broken/work trim pieces

Congratulations. Good numbers. In 40 years or so I have only sold one car with a profit, a VW Beetle. And yes, that is very nice. Yet it does show cars are getting very, very expensive. Personally I started to move back to motorbikes...

Motorcycles are getting out of hand as well. 5500/6000 euro for a 2012 KTM Duke 690?! I have currently a Diversion 600s. Aprox. 1500/2000 for a 1997 model like mine. Insane!

What I mean is that in absolute money a motorbike, certainly sport-tourers, is still a lot more affordable than a comparable car. I am not into exotic stuff, recently I bought a 1991 Volvo 940GLE (a quite rare model of a very common car) for 2900 EUR. I also recently bought a Honda Pan European from 1990 for 1600 EUR. Both are relatively low mileage and in decent shape. 3 or 4 years ago I bought a comparable Volvo for around 1100 EUR...

Sure, it's carforyou.ch. It's also free for private sellers and they don't have arbitrary limitations on the number of pictures you can upload. Too bad, it's most likely going to shutdown by the end of the year, since the company has been merged with its competitor (and market leader) autoscout24.ch.

Sad to see the GT-R go, but I am not really surprised that you could sell it for more than the purchase price. Same would happen with a Mk.4 Supra or a NSX. JDM is populair nowadays! Looking forward to the next car. How about a fast front wheel drive? Or are you going YOLO with a Ferrari Mondial ?🤣 (Don't... That's an absolute money pit)

Yeah, taking the tires off, putting them back on, balancing them and storage is about 60 bucks per tire at my garage. And they don't even like doing tires as according to the owner they barely break even doing those jobs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@Swiss Car Guy I think you should specify a bit more when you bring that up, here in the US to get banned from driving you have to be an actual bad person, and if they don't know the back story it could be damaging.
