Now in my seventh year of owners, and after owning a decent number of high-end cars, I thought it would be useful to share my findings on maintenance costs for the R35 GT-R.

These costs reflect if you don't have the means to do your own maintenance. Can easily be reduced 60-75% if you do it yourself

Well, he's giving the cost of what it would be if you have your car serviced, which is fair, because nine out of ten high end car owners will not work on their own cars. Most of us don't have special tools for a Lambo or a Ferrari. And if you work on your car, good for you. You save even more money. I work on my GTR, and it's not even about the money. I just love working on it as a hobby. For some of us, there's a sense of pride and joy to drive my own car right after I worked on it.

It's funny how some people don't even think about maintenance costs. Just because you can afford to buy a sports/exotic car, doesn't mean you can afford to maintain it.
@DoctorTauri

Tbh your comment is flawed. If you can afford you should be able to maintain it. Unless you save 100k cash and buy an exotic which the chances of that are extremely low

@@nitro300 CAN fix vs WILL fix is two different things- I think the majority of owners at a certain pricepoint do little maintenance themselves. I used to do basic maintenance on my cars- brakes, rotors, oil, etc. As I've made more money and am in the position to buy nicer cars I find myself less inclined to do the maintenance myself because I'd rather relax or do other things with my free time. I'm much more inclined to install mods that I'm capable of handling myself rather than maintenance- there's nothing thrilling about swapping out brakes, oil, and filters as far as I'm concerned.

In 2012, i bought a new GT-R with only 4 miles. This was the refresh and the wouldn't void you're warranty if you launched it in "R" mode. The thing wasn't even broken in yet and it literally broke down the next day. it was in the shop for over a month, it had the rear transaxle replaced under warranty ($25,000). I sold it and custom ordered a new Z06. I wanted to like the R35, but it lived at the dealer more than it did in my garage. Then the dealer tells me to do a fluid change, oil, transmission, etc would cost $7k. I said bye felicia!

What sucks in Europe is the dealer service garages. They are so overpriced and trash work and workers. If you ever get a sportscar or enthusiast car, just befriend a good car mechanic at a local shop. Most of the time you will get better service from them! Bonus: If you already have a mate that's a mechanic :)

Lol BMW dealer is quoting me $1400 to change the spark plugs on my F82 M4. I replaced it myself with the same Bosch spark plugs from FCP euro for $37.74 The entire job did took me about an hour and half. To be honest, a huge portion of the premium maintenance cost on a sport car is “performance markup” on both parts and labor. Except for tires maybe

For comparison I daily my 2017 Mustang Shelby GT350 and it is $220 per oil change every 5,000 miles even if I buy my own oil. I only use Amsoil 5w-50 and the Amsoil cartridge style filter for my engine. Tires I'm running are 305/30-19 in the front and 325/30-19 in the rear, I only run Michelin Pilot Sport 4s (best balance of performance, tread life, and wet performance) which cost $500+ each (about $2000 all in with no deals). I'm ready for my second set of rear tires after 2 years of ownership. I purchased the car with 51,000 miles and now have 78k on the odometer. I purchased the new tires right around the 60k mark so I have gotten great life out of them for my usage. Figure 2 oil changes a year and tires every 2 years that's about ~$1400/yr just to keep it running without any other fluid changes or maintenance issues. In time it would need a clutch and that is $1500+ just for the clutch and flywheel before install. Even if you go OEM that's not going to save much and may be more depending on pricing you can find. OEM Brake Pads which are pretty decent are about $300 front and $100 rear. Slightly more or less for aftermarket pads. You will eat them up on a track day so expect to change them out with new fluids as well. Not cheap depending on your usage. If you are tracking you will spend a lot of money on tires, brake pads, and fluids. For a daily or semi daily though, I feel its reasonable if you want a fun car to cruise in and are able to keep up with checking your fluid levels etc. I'd argue that these performance oriented cars are not for you if you want to start it up and just go. There is a little more care involved on the part of the owner.

I find it shocking that the R35 GT-R is the longest running generation unlike the generation of the R32, R33 & R34 where its no more than 3 years vs. the R35 is over 10 years. The R35 has been around longer than its predecessors the R32, R33 & R34 combined probably due to the fact its the more street legal generation in North America.

Kinda wrong there... First of all, the Nissan (R35) GT-R is *not* the next-gen Skyline. It's a separate car from its Skyline predecessor. Following the end of the R34's lifespan, the "Skyline" and "GT-R" badges were separated into two separate cars (or rather, the GT-R sub-range was removed and promoted into its own, separate vehicle). The V35 succeeded the R34 Skyline as an economically practical-but-sporty car. And the R35 succeeded the R34 GT-R as the purebred racecar. R32: 1989-1994 R33: 1995-1998 R34: 1999-2002 V35: 2001-2005 (aka. Infiniti G35) V36: 2006-2013 (aka. Infiniti G35/G37/Q40/Q60) R35: 2009-present V37: 2014-present (aka. Infiniti Q50)

@@traviswalker8933 he's trying to spill knowledge that everyone already knew. Lol. Let him have his moment. Following to the R35 with a dud would be a huge blow to Nissan and the GTR name.

6:40 - If you are mechanically inclined and have a nice set of quick jacks, you can cut the brake change, drive train and oil change costing to a fraction of that ( by cutting out the labor ) if you like tracking the car, its a strong recommendation to get used to doing these, as well as brake fluid, coolant, power steering etc.. fresh blood makes a mean car... old blood makes a dead car. That said, I know a few r35 owners, that daily their cars and enjoy the hell out of the cars. My twin turbo'ed 370z is cost heavy on tires but cheap otherwise (except for the 1st engine i blew at the track... oops) nissans are built well 9:37 34k at the dealership, and 25k mods.. My Z makes me think i should have bought a gtr:) If they only came with standard transmission....

But for a weekend / track car that’s actually a great deal if you’re not keen on building your own track car. Surprisingly, I was seeing them everywhere out here in central Wisconsin the first few years they came out. Even in winter. My 93' 240SX vert fully rebuilt by my own hands costs alot less. They have lost their minds to microchips on these current Nissan's. Mine goes only up in value each year. For 250 bucks an oil change on yours I could have mine undercoated again. So going fast, which is illegal off the rented track, these modern people are willing to spend a fortune on a car they cant drive properly in the rain or around town. So it comes down to looks and online drool. For that, I tip my top down to you. Your truly car guys willing to sacrifice to drive what you love. Respect as always gentlemen. For this old car guy I am taking mine to the end of the line since I cant replace it today without a brinks truck. Already got stolen once so I know for a fact she is still in demand.

@@UnratedPlayer21 450$ a month AT LEAST for diesel, and I only do about 60 miles a week on a long week. 300$ oil changes every 3000. New transmission every 100,000 miles at 3500-7500$ a piece. It all adds up. Bushings going out. Everything. These things are great but they are expensive

@@UnratedPlayer21 alright quick update a shop just quoted me 4500$ to fix my front passenger wheel seal that’s leaking so bad you can watch it drip out, and at least another 500 to fix my 4wd. So yeah.

I have a c43 amg with warranty and I've had to replace my panoramic roof for $2,000 (mercedes says it is not their part so they do not cover it) Oil times 3 @ $120 x3 Tires for $900 Warranty covered failing control arms $3,400, center console parts $600 It has 40k miles! Now the hydraulic hood struts have failed and need to be replaced 2 years = $3,260 1 year $1,630 + extended warranty until 75k miles for $2,350 So far I would rather spend this kind of money on a GTR than a mercedes where I get called a fake amg once a month. I can get what I paid for it in today's market which is super surprising! Currently looking at 2015 GTR's s for around $80k

Screw that, I do my own maintenance on my 2019 R35. I did my oil change, mid pipe and won’t stop there. Btw I’m still under warranty 😁😅

That's not bad at all for a daily driver, super low costs considering the highest expense by far is tires. For someone who uses this as a second car, it's likely half this price.

Depends how much you drive it. My CBA was about 7,000$ in average in 5 years of ownership and 20,000km because all the known issues happened to me. Now I got a 2017 and I expect it to cost less as I won't have issues to fix. If you decide to buy a GT-R get the newest one you can afford because you'll end up spending MUCH less in repairs.

The only way I'll be able to get a GTR 35 is if I win the FL lottery, steal one, or the apocalypse just happened right when am test driving a GTR and am getting out of the city before the zombies get me.

I always say to people, being able to buy a car and being able to afford one. Sometimes affording one is cheaper to buy, but that's rare.

That’s actually not that bad, given to the amount of years. Some people spend that kind of money annually on clothes alone. Tech stuff, they’ll either never really use or grow out of and eventually render useless. Having a kid or kids costs more than as well. It’s all about priorities and what you feel spending the money you earn, is worth it.

Even the cost of maintenance can be reduced depending on which fluids you use. I'm not saying cheap out, but I am saying find what matches Nissan's specs and buy accordingly. You'll be surprised at what you save.

Knowing how to work on your own car goes a Long ways !!! Most people can't do the easiest things like change their own oil in the diffs and that's the biggest problems with most cars
