I live in Canada but I'm very proud of the Chinese. Instead of bitching, whining and throwing tantrums like what the West would do, they got to work doubled down and fought back. Does the US not realize that they are not dealing with a mere country but a 5000+ year old civilization that is very hard working, pragmatic and determined to survive and excel? Let's face it the Chinese are very intelligent when it comes to STEM and business. The US definitely underestimated China's resolve and will to succeed. The Americans thought that were dealing with a Japan or S.Korea type entity that would bend at the knee with the slightest pressure applied to them-clearly the powers that be were misguided. They are dealing with the Dragon Nation that has the 'teeth' to fight back. After the opium wars and century of humiliation the Chinese would NEVER allow themselves to be bullied in that fashion ever again and the States and the West is learning this lesson the hard way. China is the factory of the world and clear cut leader in regard to crucial supply chains for many key industries. It's not all doom and gloom for those opposing China however. The West can take solace in knowing that China is hopeless in such fields as Gender Studies, Sociology, Mass communication and the like-these are the core areas where America can truly thrive and proclaim unmatched primacy. I know that they would never do it but the best strategy to take with China is mutual benefit and cooperation and pursue a positive sum game rather than doubling down on the zero sum game that the US is currently playing. The writing is on the wall for all those possessing an objective clarity of mind to see.

The US underestimated China's ability to overcome obstacles thrown in their path and create their own semiconductor sector independent of the US. This will be China's semiconductor decade as it leads in innovations on silicon with things like chip stacking, three dimension transistors, photonics, graphene, and quantum chips. China is also pursuing the development of production equipment and chemicals needed to make semiconductors. The US invested more than $50 billion in it's 'Chip Act' to cripple China and bring semiconductor manufacturing back to America. It is failing as Intel and TSMC stop their new factories with an declining future because the US government prevents them from working with and selling to the Chinese in high end semiconductors. ASML is also nearing its last hurrah as the Chinese keep improving their abilities in lithography. Not only has China restricted graphite, but it has restricted gallium, germanium, cobalt, silicon wafers, and the use of its rare earth IP. It will cost the US dearly in time and money to develop their own supply chains to replace these restrictions.

In the beginning, the U.S. fed the Chinese with fish and chips and the Chinese were happy in buying those fish and chips in huge quantities. Then one day, the U.S. got nasty as it saw how fat the Chinese were getting and decided to starve the Chinese. However, the Chinese learned how to fish and get their own chips. All of a sudden, the U.S. was not only making ZERO money as China was no longer buying - being prevented from buying by the U.S. itself - but began to prove themselves able to produce cheaper chips for the market. A customer has now been turned into a competitor! Talk about shooting oneself in the foot.😄😆😅😂😉😊😁

Good thing for consumers across the world! PCs on retail are still grossly overpriced. Look forward to prices down from $1000+ to $100+. This may happily come true when legacy chip capacities from both China and even India in months to come truly flood the world markets. After all, PCs are no longer the high-tech wonder tools they used to be reputed to be. They're now just everyday work tools.

It is just most logical that China will produce as many as possible legacy chips because they are cheap and mostly used in consumer applications. These legacy chips will drive the price down that the big American chips companies cannot compete due to their high production cost and lower productivity. China’s strategy is to invest in chips where they can be used the most and not to invest in high-end chips where the demand is low due to its high cost price. This strategy is paying off as China now has 39% of the market share for legacy chips. China’s technology of “stacking” chips to increase the density is advancing to compete with the high-end chips at much lower price. The fact that Intel is laying off 15000 people is a sign that the USA’s strategy is failing even backfiring.

Consequences! The West cannot complain, and claim they were not warned several years ago that China would likely take measures to protect itself. Least it be forgotten, that while China has not been known in the past to seek "pay-back" type retribution, it could equally be argued they have had the experience of "one hundred years of humiliation" to learn lessons from, and will almost certainly not allow themselves to be pushed into a similar situation again. So, bullying does have its "consequences"!

Sanctioning China is giving Chinese companies a huge favor of a walled and abandoned market where Chinese companies would have never have a chance against established foreign companies. But now, the USA by means of sanctions, gives the country with the best industrial capacity, with the most engineers and scientists, and has a capitalist/money mindset, the incentive and opportunity to grow in a now abandoned garden. They don't even have to invent the market, it's already there, only abandoned. Huge opportunity!

China has kept on advising the U.S. that mutual cooperation is the best way forward but the U.S. is hard of hearing like it always has, following the footsteps of one of its predecessors by the name of (brevet) General George Armstrong Custer who didn't listen to the Native Red Indians (and ended up having his ears pierced so that he may be able to hear better in the after life). On the other hand, the U.S. persists in using its Tonya Harding method by swinging a sledgehammer at what it perceives to be a buzzing fly inside a glass house of its own making. One wonders if the day will also come when the U.S. needs to have an awl push into its ears to make it listen better? Away from the metaphors, one only has to look at history itself to see that trade sanctions and wars do not work and have not but the U.S. Government political leaders as stubborn as ever, persist in driving down that road, believing that it can do to China what it has done to others before and watched their economies stagnate (eg Cuba, North Korea, Ethiopia, Mali, Nicaragua, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Venezuela among 16 other countries targeted by the U.S.). While many of those countries are small and can be easily bullied, China is a totally different case with a huge population, a large continent that has plenty of human and natural resources and an increasing number of friends in the Global South. Basically, the U.S. is like a python that has attempted to swallow an elephant and is sort of, choking on it but still trying to.

And now there is the news that Intel chips are defective and have probably been for a while... It seems that we will have one less company on the market making chips...

The US government made globalization import telling us citizens that we had to learn to share .There went our factories, machinery and jobs. The jobs now are still moving to Mexico. So my statement is our politicians along with corporations made bad choices when they could use other countries for cheap labor they did and they still do. Rents, healthcare and education keeps going up cost wise but the citizens who supported this the middle class baby boomers ( the ones born before 1953) wanted things cheaper and since they already still had the jobs with pensions and healthcare didn’t think of want others who were born after them would do. Now our economy and government are all screwed up.. the citizens of Israel have free healthcare and education along with subsidized housing while US citizens are living on the streets. What I say now to are government is you need to accept like we the poor have learned you need to learn how to share your money you have destroyed our country with your greed so get over it stop blaming others for what you choose . Congratulations china

Our own (US) arrogance is our downfall. Sanctions and weaponizing economics may be real atractive in the media talking points, they ignore that the world is smarter than that.

Flooding the market with low end chips means driving manufacturing cost down for production of consumer goods. That should be good news to consumer. Just like covid vaccines, if not because of China, covid vaccines would have been beyond reach of poor nations and only benefitted rich countries and European market who could afford the high prices of vaccines when it first came out. By the time the vaccines reached the poor countries, many lives would have been lost.

I don’t agree. When u.s strikes, it’s always with malice and greed. When China strikes, it’s with the intention to advance its country and its people and always for win-win in mind. With all the u.s ‘STRIKES”, China has not lost anything. They have in fact made China more advanced and self sufficient much more quicker.

China invests in development of self sustenance while US is pouring mad sums in the war in Ukraine. The result war vs development. US is happy that there are wars, but China is excelling everything tech which US once enjoyed global dominance. Where you focus you get. Destruction vs Development.

I support 🇨🇳 China and suggest that China should stop import any commodities from the 🇺🇸 U.S. if China can out source those commodities from another country whether it's wheat, corn, soybeans, pork, beef, fruits, mineral fuels and so on. Moreover China may find those commodities cheaper than the 🇺🇸 U.S. has to offer.
