You should do a video on Skid blocks that are fitted under the F1 cars. Would be nice to know when the FIA gives the boards to the manufactures before the race.. Are they changed every race .. Are the teams allowed to manage the air that goes around the Skid blocks .. Whats the weight of the boards .. Is there a special wood that is selected. They have been around since the Low lying Lotus F1 cars .. So would be nice to know something about them. Thanks ! Great video.. Love the job you guys are doing !

Oh yes .. my bad. You are right they are called as Skid block. Rectifying my comment. Thank you for the correction !

was the wooden skid block not replaced with titanium (or some other metal) a few seasons back? and its the reason we see so many sparks now?

The pyrotechnic valve would make me nervous as a driver or team principal. Imagine if that thing fails and goes off mid race, or while pitting.
@gavinkemp79206 жыл бұрын
well if well designed when pitting it shouldn't be to dangerous unless it goes off after the wheel is changed. they'd only use a small explosive. but yeah the wheel suddenly deflating at the wrong moment would be catastrophic. it down to how reliable they can make them. if it is almost impossible for these to go wrong its a good solution.
@williamf96336 жыл бұрын
they could have a different valve cap as an idea you could put a tiny electric solenoid into a valve cap to depress the valve to release pressure and a g sensor on the car to activate it on impact

In France when Force India's wheel came off, why didn't these work then?
@LuukLucky6 жыл бұрын
I believe the wheel nut failed, and then the whole wheel comes of like when they change wheels in the pits.

The wheel didn't come out, the tyre did. These hold the rim not the rubber on it
@alexcov056 жыл бұрын
It was the tyre. Also happened to Hulkemberg in Spain.
@alexderus74806 жыл бұрын
The tethers hold the spindle to the car. The wheel/tire assembly is held to the spindle by the wheel nut. If the wheel nut comes off, the wheel/tire assembly is no longer tethered.
@jgonzalesm66 жыл бұрын
Unsafe release. Torque gun pressure system failed on that side thereby not putting torque into the wheelnut that holds the rim and tire in place. Once the rim and tire are torqued into the hub(where the tethers are attached from the hub to the chassis), then the tethers do their job. Look at Hartleys crash not long ago (2018) where the upper arm failed under braking which the tethers worked beautifully in that scenario.

I was thinking that the reason Max always seemed to run into Seb specifically was because Max is a Red Bull and Seb was in a bright red car just like the matador's cape. He can't help it. Now that Seb's at Aston-Martin it's no longer an issue. So Max should be fine now right? Oh wait, just watched the 2021 British GP. He's not over running into other drivers yet I see.

what a miracle, nobody even second thought the open cockpit nature of F1, but as soon as the halo was introduced, everyone starts claiming that it has "saved a life" why did nobody die in the past recent years then? why are lives starting to get saved only when the halo was introduced? i smell intense BS

a halo would have never saved him. going that fast and being crushed under a truck like that. It was simply a hopeless case. Im not chatting shit, read actual documentations regarding the incident.
@morgankerrmilliken14116 жыл бұрын
CODMASTA Yes it has been discussed that he could not have been saved by the halo. But you said nobody has died in recent years and that’s not true. I’m saying that the halo is a safety measure that will help the drivers. Cars today are going the fastest they have ever been so having added protection around the head area helps. You barely even notice it watching it on track. People just complain for the sake of complaining.

They have been tied on for a couple years now. If you don’t know this then you don’t need to be watching F1. Literally the whole reason for the argument about the halo
