@@DonauweIIe For this, I used my DX Commander 12.4m multiwire vertical. (40.7ft) It is ground positioned with radials laid on the ground. Moncton is about 50km away from the Bay of Fundy or the Northumberland Strait, both of which are Atlantic seawater. So close, but not on the water per se.
@DonauweIIe

@@patrickbuick5459 is that your QTH, Moncton ? i wonder how well 25meter vertical copperwire would receive compared to that dxcomander. I have a long wire like that on a tall tree here, that wire is not exactly vertical but hears so much already. i think a very long vertical antenna like 30meter high or more would be best for reception. how well did you hear that person from 12129km away, strong and easily intelligible or was it a weak signal that he had to repeat himself ? what R/S reporr did you give to that DX ?
@patrickbuick5459

@Ghostwriters in the Sky They do say, the more wire up, the better. I use this because the trees aren't a lot taller, at least branches that will properly support something. Plus, this is resonant on most bands, so only minimal tuning used. Having said that, it also picks up a lot of noise compared to my 130 or so foot horkzontal L shaped efhw at 16 feet on lower bands (80, 40). This was a 57 received, 59 sent. It was pretty clear for the distance. Propagation has been odd though. A couple of months ago, I had a FM QSO with England on 10m like he was in town.

Sooo, I'm not a radio operator like you guys but I like this topic. Could it be possible to send a signal out and propagate around the earth and you pick it up at the starting point? I expect it would be under the right weather conditions.
@HamRadioDX
@HamRadioDX Жыл бұрын
Hi Cody, This can happen sometimes. Under the right conditions your signal can take two paths, one short and the other long. This can lead to you hearing your own signal slightly out of phase/a slight echo. As you say, it needs to have the right ionospheric conditions.

My only experiences with it outside of RX are in the 11 and 3 meter bands.
