I just got the geprc RAD vtx (the triangle shaped one) because it goes upto 400mw, but after watching this I'm going to save it for a future build/upgrade. I currently have the tinygo 4k and it's in need of a new aio. I was learning how to switch vtx power while in flight when I came across your awesome video. Thanks it was very helpful and well done.

Nice. I decided to see last week how far I could go on my 2" on 200mw. I got to about 630' before I fail safed but video was clear and that was just with a tiny eachine vt03 on 200mw and stock die pole. I have been very impressed with the reception on just a die pole.

I can't get much farther than my yard!! Idk what I'm doing wrong but I'd love to have a clear picture at such a close range and I would love to make it to the other end of the field at home depot. Am I flying in pit mode? I can't tell if my smart audio is working and I don't even know what vtx came on the bnf quad so I can look up how to manually change the power level.

@@creaturefpv Open that BNF up and see what VTX is in there. Its probably something cheap and crappy so I would look into replacing it with a better vtx. I hear the Rush VTX are good I love the TBS vtx personally. Also look at antenna orientation on the kwad and goggles. Lots of people have the goggle antennas setup perfectly for if they look straight ahead but end up looking down.

Using Runcam TX200U 25mw and EV800D with the directional antenna, I got 200meters Not bad!

Idk what I'm doing wrong . I can't get half the distance you are able to make at 25 mw and when I try using smart audio to change it to 200 mw it shows that I changed it but if I back out and go back into the menu , its back at 25 mw. I just got everything I need to build my first 5" but I bought a 1000 mw vtx to try and get some distance and at least a much clearer picture at the distances i like to fly like just in my yard . I get a fair amount of static just in my yard. That shouldn't be i wouldn't think . Help. Please!! Thx

Mike.m mcintyre sorry to hear your having problems. Could be a couple things. It might be in pit mode, Vtx can be set to pit mode as default. Also sounds like the smart audio isn’t working properly also. Did you wire in the smart audio wire into the flight controller and then turn on that uart port in beta flight? Also check your antenna connection any loose connection will give horrible video. Are you using right hand antenna on both your drone and goggles? are you sure that you set up smart audio properly? Had the same problem... turned out my smart audio was not working. Had to go into betaflight swith it in the right UART then it worked. In the transmitter tab its needs to say on the right side "Device ready = yes" Maybe that helps

it depends on the VTX you have and what voltage it can handle some VTX are fine with 5V but others require more power. those that do YES you can hook it up directly to the battery however you should add a capacitor. because it is hooked up directly to the batter it will see a big variation on the actual power it gets and could cause bad video a capacitor helps keep a little power in reserve for the fluctuation. if you only need 5V the flight controller works just fine and could help prevent the problems that a direct line might have.

yes connect where the battery connects to the flight controller i stack solder my wire right on top. the turbowing tx 18011 can handle 7V-26V if you need help setting up the smart audio i have another video on that kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2PRlKmfotilj5Y

Come on, 25mw can get you much farther than that. Your patch antenna is not aiming towards the target.

Yes the technology has gotten much better with rapid fire and TBS fusion modules. But almost 3 years ago when I made this video with standard diversity on my aomway goggles that was how far I was getting. Plus I was using a cheap turbo wing VTX back then also. Having my patch pointing In The right direction would have helped a bit. the real game changer is having a good set of goggles that can handle a proper module nowadays.
