The real issue here might focus on whether a higher retirement age or lower benefits was the right answer for the Yellow Vests as neither the left and right allowed Macron any practical options. Trump turned into a felon during that time-frame, as we handicap his odds of turning that political tide toward something more popular Similarly, giving the forces of Brexit a shot at conforming to the fiscal standards of the EU was probably Macron's best chance to maintain some "center" that actually states his position.
