For example , explaining how the “ping” works is great - just quick FYI expertly inserted. I absolutely LOVE your KZbin videos for this reason . Please continue Starlink videos. Thank you, so much!

With Starlink 2.0 you still want lots of ground stations. If you channel all traffic to a limited number of ground stations, the ground station itself may become overwhelmed, but more importantly, the last satellite doing the down/uplink to that ground station has finite limited bandwidth. If you had 2 or 3 ground stations, then neighbouring satellites could communicate with different ground stations effectively doubling or tripling the speed system wide. Ver2.0 allows for areas with no ground stations, but given the opportunity, you would rather build one nearby.

I'm back online as of June 1st. Home speeds are ~30 Mb up and 10 mb down (Ottawa, Canada). I'll be camping around 3 hours west of here, and I am anxious to see the performance. I have a completely open camp site with no trees to speak of. Ver. 2 router and rectangular dish new as of earlier this year. - I will test speed, and try the factory reset if it is not up to scratch in 2 weeks. Question! - What does the "Network Splitting" function actually do? - Thanks!

I’m in Florida too and did a lot of testing during our severe rainstorms and noticed that speed did go down for sure. Were you able to check when we had our rain last week? Okay I have a bit of background in amateur satellite and IT networks and I saw a few things that stood out to me. first the hard reset is really to force firmware updates if there are none then it won’t do much, second at this point the laser interlinks won’t do much unless you are at the extreme ends N/S that they are for but when more perhaps even most of the constellation is replaced and they have them they will hop your connection to the fastest downlink available, I know you tried to eliminate a variable by using the same test site but after the reset and even during testing ground station can change making different test sites “closer” topologically I live in northern AZ my “closest” speed test site changes throughout the day between southern CA, NV, Phoenix, Denver. Once even TX and is based on which satellite/ground station had best signal and availability, doing trace route is fun. But it will drastically change ping time and speed to the same test site if you get moved to a different ground station and satellite, I also found to get better speed by eliminating my gen 1 access point and I have a home brewed pFsense box directly connected to the power injector. The pFsense then feeds my switch and my ASUS WiFi router (in access point mode). I also have the shitty dsl plugged in and have seamless fail over and load sharing since why not I’m paying for both.

Also after power failure I always see a speed decrease but it comes back fairly quickly but my last reset of Dishy slowed it down for half a day.

I've reached out to them about move my ground station from VA to FL where I live 1300 miles closer to me and they said they could not do it as of now. Sadly... I like using pFsense but have not tried it out. If you would be so kind as to send me your setup information via email ( jcristina.com/contact ) that would be awesome.. Would love to test it out as I'm going to testing turning off WiFi in the router and using the switch online and network dongle to move data out of the system into my own router. Gen 2 requires the dongle while yours has the ethernet port still on the back and the RESET button for that matter.. LOL

The time depends on the # of hops it has to go through to get to the destination. You can see this by doing a a tracert (ip address or name) to the destination. You may want to do a video on comparing tracert results from your cable/dsl connection compare to a Starlink connection to see the difference in # of hops.

what’s the point of extreme downloads when every second it fluctuates! i see that some apps like facebook and instagram takes latency to load content making look like the network is slow! then what’s the point of fast speeds where does fast speeds shine if not where most people do that matters? iam still interested in to find out where does this fast download speed shine?

I would suggest that after doing a hard reset that you wait the 12 hours (or so) for the obstruction map to display before doing definitive speed testing.. AFIK, after the hard reset the unit has to re-learn the satellite constellation. Hence the 12 hours to restore the obstruction map. JMHO.

Starlink ping times will invariably be dynamically changing, not one test will have the exact same ping as before even if your ping tests are only internal to the Startlink network, this is because these times are dependent on the distance to the satellites in use, and as these are moving so are the ping times changing accordingly.

I am way out in the country now, moved about 2 years ago. I was living in the city before and had comcast. Was paying for a promised 150+ Mpbs was actually received 50 Mpbs to 64 Mbps on a good day. Like I said made the move, but didn't even ask about internet here out in the country.....bad move, literally. I had little to no options for internet. I did find 2 hardline companies who both stated it was fiber optic to the house. #1 Frontier, they are known for slow speeds and really bad service. IBest package is a 25 Mpbs speed, if working at all? #2 a subcontractor to Frontier, who's name I can not remember. Staying away from Frontier, I went with choice number #2. Very bad decision on my part. On hook up day they said they couldn't because it looks like I am still hooked up to Frontier. They said they need proof I was disconnected from Frontier before they can hook me up. WTF? I had never heard of such a thing. Now, I have to involve the previous homeowner to provide proof the house is not using Frontier. Later I found out the reason for this is because of the Contractor/Subcontractor agreement between these two companies. So trying to stay away from Frontier, I ended up using an even worse option. Now for the second time the company came out to provide service, they said they can not because there are no ports left to hook up to in my area....again WTF? Finally a service guy called me and said he knew about a port that was opening up on Monday, he would make sure I had it. Being that my Wife works from home we needed internet service fast. We even thought to use our phones as a Hot Spot till we found a better solution. But we do not get a good signal as we are behind a hill that blocks everything coming from town 5 miles away. Anyways, after the a round of back and forth with a service woman finally she told me they could not provide service at this time to me, but I insisted that the service tech promised me a port come Monday. She said that is impossible and she was not aware of any tech who knows more than her about what is about to open or not be open. Well, Monday came and the service tech did make goo on his word, got me a port, but it would only be 11 Mpbs speed, but ended up being 6 only Mpbs in reality because of throttling my service......? Something is better than nothing right, because like I said, my Wife works from home and we had to have service like now! So after two full years of crazy slow internet and content internet dropping Starlink was being offered in my area! After another year of waiting for the Starlink to be sent out to us early adopters of Starlink, we finally received most of what we ordered. Yes, I did order the ethernet dongle too. We are very pleased with our speeds. Even though they were 881 Mpbs when we first hooked up and now they have settled to 218 Mpbs to 60 Mpbs at various times, it is still way faster than what we had for the last 3 years! We were thinking about selling our house because of the Internet issues, think about that for a second.....having to sell your house because you can not get good internet! Crazy as it sounds, we were at that point. Now because of Starlink, we are happy with our country home and we plan on staying. Thank you Starlink!

The only real places you get good internet speeds is in more condensed areas. If you live in a rural area, you are extremely limited, which is why starlink is a big deal. Also the down side is cost… you pay a great price. Starlink is like $100usd a month… plus you have to get the equipment. I paid the deposit ($100usd) for 2 locations and I still never got any update about actually being able to use the equipment. Fortunately my rural home and property is under contract now, and we are set to close on March 1… we will be purchasing a new home in a condensed area and great internet should be no problem… ill be installing hardwired network with a rack etc

@@HardHeadMilitary Yes I agree, but Starlink is over priced for what it is. So you went through making sure people get the ethernet adapter, but after your reset, you are still connecting to it via wifi just before running the speed tests?? Also, if starlink is managing their connections similar to a WISP (wireless internet service provider), you may have a standard download speed along with a burst speed. burst speeds will usually be a set amount of data that is basically uncapped. once you blow through that burst speed it will revert to your regular download speed. This could be why the first test you run shows very high and then goes down significantly. Try doing speed tests with 30 seconds or 1 minute waits in between (to let that burst buffer reset) and see if the download speeds look more consistent, this would confirm if this is the case. Either way, getting 100+ meg down with that low of latency is pretty amazing for going to a satellite, hopefully they can maintain it as more and more people start signing up.

Starlink 2.0 isn't even out yet, starship is the rocket that will be launching starlink 2.0 satellites because there bigger and heavier with more bandwidth, The satellites that they are launching now are Starlink 1.5 version satellites ,not Starlink 2.0 satellites yet, Starlink 1.5 version satellites do have laser links on them though, SpaceX is making starship rocket because the starship rocket can launch 400 Starlink 2.0 satellites at one time where the falcon rocket can only launch 60 satellites at a time, so until starship rocket gets launched which they're still testing it in flights, they will be only launching 1.5 version Starlink satellites, The falcon rocket can only launch 60 satellites at a time and Starlink 1.5 version satellites are getting launched but they are not live yet stated by Elon musk, Elon musk said they don't have enough laser link satellites in space yet to go live yet , so right now the laser link satellites are offline, Right now they're only using Starlink 1.0 satellites, Right now when they launched the Starlink 1.5 version satellites it can take up to 3 months for them to get to their orbital plane height because the falcon 9 rocket is limited to how high it can go, The Starlink 2.0 satellites will only take up to 2 weeks to get to their orbital plane height. The reason for that is because starship is much bigger and more power and can go higher up into space so that's why it won't take as long to get to their orbital plane the Starlink 2.0 satellites, difference between starlink 2.0 satellites and 1.5v satellites and 1.0v satellites are Starlink 1.0 satellites don't have laser link on satellites and only have 20 Gbps bandwidth per satellite, 1.5v satellites have laser links on satellites and are 20 Gbps bandwidth per satellite im pretty sure , Im pretty sure starlink kept the same bandwidth for 1.5v satellites as 1.0v satellites ,starlink 2.0 satellites will have laser links with 50-80 Gbps bandwidth per satellite and are heavier and bigger
