Great drone shots of a full keel coming out of the marina! IPS are the ultimate cruiser but nice to see what you need to be prepared for , lots of room to back up to straighten out. 😊 all the benefits are on the water. Whoever did your Bimini did a fantastic job, your boat looks great. Can’t wait to see how it goes down the west coast! Thanks for sharing your videos!

Initially I thought the drone shot exiting the slip would just look cool, but after the difficulties I had leaving, it ended up being a great learning tool. Thanks for the positive feedback, cheers!

We have the same Iceco freezer also under our nav station. Tip - install a new 12 volt DC breaker and heavy supply wire dedicated to the freezer. We tried using one of the supplied cig lighter power plug and a existing power port and we immediately lost a full freezer of food. The cigarette lighter plug also tends to back out, cut it off and hard wire it to the new breaker or secure it so it can't back out.

We ALMOST lost the freezer full of food, I turned off the breaker for the 12v cig plug because we never use it. "What's this doing on?" Luckily I noticed within about an hour of doing so. I like having the cig outlets but I do have an open breaker I could hardwire to. Not a bad tip. I'll have to look into this. Thanks!

Brother, I feel your pain! I love my IP38, but pulling out of a slip with the wind across her bow is always a bit tricky! Great drone footage! I also enjoyed seeing how you've outfitted your boat. Fair winds and friendly harbors to you! Liked and subscribed! Blackheart Charlie s/v Aurora, IP38-82 Key West

Looks wonderful out there. Great job....fyi...dinghy. add inside now n stern line. Then criss cross these pulling to davit opposite sides. Then add 15 ft wratchet straps from top stern rail around dinghy and back to lower stern rail. This pulls dinghy tight to stern rail and the lines keep it from moving side to side. Offshore in rough seas this will be needed. Just an fyi from 25+ yrs of ip sailingv 40,000 miles.

I would have loved this advice sooner! Lol I have already made those adjustments and it holds the dinghy in place wonderfully! I had to put in some footwork and walk the docks to check out other peoples boats to see what worked. Keep up the tips!!

I had the same problem with my freezer not being able to freeze in my Tartan until I figured out there's a plastic cover to close off the top of the freezer unit so you can maintain temps cold enough to freeze things.. I didn't have one when we bought the boat. I found one on Amazon and now we can at least freeze ice and a few other things but are limited by the small size.

That make a lot of sense Paul! I was laying a towel or two over the top to insulate things, it helped a little..

That's very impressive boat speed compared to wind speed. Especially for a full keeled boat. I've heard about the IP foil shaped keel but its cool seeing it in action.

I know it's 3 years later, but if you permanently CLAMP the thermostat probe to the OUTSIDE of the freezer evaporator and adjust the temperature setting just one more time, your temperature won't fluctuate wildly every time you put food in it.

I don't know how the piping looks; however, in some cases using a spray bottle with soap liquid on the connections and conduits will if running show by bubbles where leaks occur. If you can use this trick, I don't know.

Your vid of you backing out was interesting. Obviously no bow thruster! You've got to have a good working engine to do that - or else.

Do you ever feel like you should have sprung for the island packet 40 or is the 38 perfect?

I believe that's called the 2 foot fever, when you look at boats just a little bigger, then a little bit bigger... Sure, I'd love more room, a bigger bed especially, but I really like the 38. I haven't felt claustrophobic yet, and moving onto a boat, that was my biggest worry. Its actually quite comfortable!

@@svstellaj1530 yeah I know I don't want a 50 footer but my biggest worries right now are going all in and living with the thought of I wish I'd gone just a bit bigger

@svstellaj1530 3 жыл бұрын
@@Oncewaslostbutnowimsaved I get your worry but I'll tell ya, bringing a 40 foot boat into the marina is stressful enough. We wanted a boat that didn't need a big crew, for the most part, I wanted it to be just us two.

Hi Matthew, I have lived aboard and cruised my IP38 since 2001 and have over 18k miles under her keel. We've been the entire US East coast many times, to the Bahamas, and to Bermuda in all kinds of weather - some pretty rough stuff along the way. I have also sailed 2k miles on a IP40 delivery from the Caribbean to NY via Bermuda. Here are my thoughts on the IP38 vs the IP40 ... IMHO, the IP38 was Island Packet's "learning curve" boat after they made the IP31. The 38 has a few annoying flaws (poor icebox placement next to the engine, too small diesel tank for long range cruising 55 gals vs the 90 (?) on the 40, no dorades on early 38's, and worst of all, poor handling around the docks in reverse.) The 40 fixes these problems, has a couple more lockers, and is about 1/2 knot-ish faster: call it 150 to 155 mile days offshore vs 125 to 140 for the 38. Overall, I found no difference in the utility of these two boats; they will take you to the same places, have virtually the same storage (massive), and are of the same high build quality. Is it worth the extra $$$ for the 40? Personally, I don't think so. All other things being equal between the two boats (condition, equipment, etc.) I'd buy a 38 and use the saved money to go cruising on for several years. Best regards, Black Heart Charlie - Key West s/v Aurora, IP38-82

@@svstellaj1530 I wish I knew :) -- that's why I'm asking you, who own and sail an Island Packet! I have been looking for one, for any IP, for a few days now, and still nothing. This is what I'm talking about: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_diagram_(sailing) I hoped you had obtained one from the manufacturer, or actually made one for your very IP by measuring speed on the water vs angle to true wind for several wind speeds (each curve corresponds to a wind speed) for your boat, loaded with provisions, gear, and you guys (all parameters which affect boat speed). Of course, sail configuration would also make a difference, and require sets of speed measurements vs angle to the wind for 1) mainsail+jib, 2) mainsail+staysail, and 3) mainsail+jib+staysail. I will be chartering an IP soon and would like to use the polar diagram of any 40+ ft IP for planning my next cruise and sailing it.

That would be a nice addition! Not sure if I could spare the extra few inches in height though.. Plus I think the slide would need to be bolted down and I HATE drilling new holes in my fiberglass, but your right, that would be sweet!
