Great boat and a really good tour! To solve your annoying anchor chain problem, pause the chain recovery at 50%, then 1 person below should aim the PVC to the empty space, confirm the new aim to person above, then resume chain recovery. Do the same for releasing the anchor to ensure a smooth anchoring.

Last year, I sailed on a 40 IP with the exact same layout. I love that Pullman bed and plenty storage. Much better than a V berth layout. We too had the issue with the anchor chain, though we did not have that pipe, and we still had the self tacking stay sail. I like that cockpit full covers. Fair winds.

We just got back from a week out in the Islands and the dang anchor chain was nothing but a pain in the neck, not to mention the washdown pump quit working!! I'm sure you'll see us revamping the current setup in the near future.

Lovely yacht. I'm no expert at IP's but the layout appears identical to the IP40. I guess one advantage of the 38 over the 40 is the holding tank location on the 40 is under the front bed.....so replacement involves cutting into the bed frame for access to remove.

@svstellaj1530

My tanks are aluminum so I'm happier with that than the black Iron some brands are known to have. Plus mine are centerline and below the salon sole so if I did need to tear them out, I think it would be better than if they were mounted next the hull and under cabinetry. My chain plates seem to have a good reputation as far as I can tell, no problems in the survey, no leaks, but I also haven't seen them myself. They are seriously buried!

Hello James, from the stories I've been told, our boat was on the hard for approx 3 years from a long drawn out refit. Around $100K in receipts from the refit were provided, but the owner was never present so the rest of the boat was sorely neglected. The asking price was $149,000 but all said and done, we paid $122,000. The survey turned up a overheating issue with the engine, which I have addressed. You can see the problem I had in the following episode. Thanks for checking out my videos, take care! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKLQfpSHqq6db7s

Hello Taylan, we had the full enclosure done by a local guy out of Bellingham. He was recommended from a reliable company who themselves were to backed up to help us out. It wasn't cheap, that's for sure. The entire frame needed alterations and with all the work making everything from scratch, the end cost was around $10k. This also included replacement side screens for when we want to let the breeze in but not the sun. Hope this helps.

Hey guys, thanks for checking out my vids!! I've been trying to figure out my hull # and I don't see it marked clearly. If its the last 3 digits of the HIN, I suppose it would be hull # 192. Your boat is beautiful BTW, you can see the pride of ownership!!
@SailingwithTheCuscus
@SailingwithTheCuscus 4 жыл бұрын
@@svstellaj1530 your HIN # (on upper right corner of your transom, and on your title and probably lots of your purchase paperwork). It will start with "TDL", Island Packets were made by Traditional Watercraft.. The next 2 should be "38", which is the model. The next three are your hull number. The last 4 are the date the hull was made. So your boat was made on the first day of ? Month, 1992. There should be a letter in front on your 192, which would be the month, a=Jan, etc. Keep the videos coming, and good luck in your adventures. Feel free to reach out with questions or just conversation about sailing. Probably easiest to communicate via FB messenger. Send me friend request, if you want, Jim Van Lenten.

@@svstellaj1530 ok cool. Looks like you boat was owned by someone from Alabama at one point ( there is an owner registry on the Island Packet owners site, IPhomeport.com) You should join and update the registry. There is a TON of good info there. I was wrong about the last 4 digits. The last 2 are the model year, and the 2 before that are the month and year the hull was started. So your hull was laid in March of 91. "c" being the 3rd month.

I’ve been looking at the IP brand. Some told me they make poor speed you need to turn the motor on to tack. Any truth in that?
@svstellaj1530
@svstellaj1530 3 жыл бұрын
Well Greg, like any boat, what’s the wind like when you tack? More wind, the better! Yes, I’ve turned the motor on before, but in light winds. We prefer to furl in the head sail a bit while on the wind, then tack. The jib will pull through quicker allowing for a faster maneuver. But really, we make 4-7kts like anyone else, however performance boats will always kick our ass😉🤷🏼‍♂️
@gregmenoche8934

Thanks for the reply. What is considered a performance boat? My plans are during retirement to sail from the Delaware area down to the islands during the winter and return I don’t need anything fast I believe.

Sorry for the delay in a response, we just got back to the land of internet! Production boats like Beneteau or Jeanneau are typically lighter with less displacements and are faster. Google the type of boat you may be looking at and check its blue water rating. Island Packets, Tayana's, Passports, they will all be rated a class A blue water cruiser. Also, the longer the water line, the faster your boat will go. We just motored from Bahia de los Muertos to La Paz at 2700rpm and had an average cruising speed of 6.5.

I can't take credit for as it was made by the previous owners, regarding the anchor chain issue AND storing the spinnaker - I have an IP45 and have sloping shelf on one side of the anchor locker and on the other side is stored the spinnaker. Shame I can't add a photo, a little untidy looking but it works pretty well for both jobs and so far the chain doesn't bunch up.
