How FEDERICO CHIESA will turn Liverpool into a NIGHTMARE for Premier League Clubs
Any Liverpool fans here? Happy Federico Chiesa day guys! Meet The Spaghetti Mafia! After many months of silence, Liverpool have finally completed their first summer signing for Arne Slot, and it's totally a treat for the fans!
In this video, we've put together all the most important things you need to know about Chiesa’s move to Liverpool - his contract details, how Federico will fit into Slot's tactics, and what he will bring to the Reds' game. As usual, at the end of the video, we'll also reveal the real meaning behind his arrival for Liverpool's sporting project!
Federico Chiesa quits Juventus and becomes a Liverpool performer just a few days before the transfer window shuts. The Merseysiders landed the stellar Italian winger for ridiculous money - £10million, with a further £2.5m in add-ons based on team performance!
Chiesa's contract with Liverpool is valid for four years and he is “very happy” to join the English team’s ranks:
“I'm very happy to become a new Liverpool player. Me and my family, we're so happy really.
Let me say thanks to Juventus and the fans, they have always been special to me.
Now it's time for Liverpool, I'm so happy. I can't wait!” claimed Federico.
Okay, we won't deny that Liverpool's strong desire to secure Chiesa’s services raised a few eyebrows among their supporters. You see, the club has been chasing the Italian for quite a while, as well as considering his acquisition. However, Chiesa has long since ceased to be perceived as a top-notch player due to a severe ACL injury he picked up back in 2022.
After that, Federico hasn't been able to return to the level of performance he demonstrated throughout Euro 2020, which is still seen as the peak of his career. Unfortunately, things were not getting better in terms of injuries too…
Since the 2021/22 campaign, poor Chiesa has been sidelined for 420 days, missing 80 matches due to injury, even though Serie A football is not as tough as the one championed in the English Premier League. Of course, this fact should have been a concern for Liverpool's recruiting team…
That said, not everything people say about Chiesa is true. For example, there has long been a widespread slander in Italy that Chiesa has become much slower on the pitch since his ACL tear.
Here we have the case of an outright lie! At the 2024 European Championship, Federico recorded a top speed of 34.4 km/h in one of Italy’s matches, becoming the fastest Italian player in the competition.
Moreover, in the 2022/23 season, his first campaign after the gruesome tear, only Napoli striker Victor Osimen recorded a higher top speed than Chiesa. The Nigerian accelerated to 36.61 km/h in one of the league’s fixtures, while our guy successfully reached 35.47 km/h at one point!
In the following years, Federico also delivered a speed of 36 km/h, which is slightly less than last season's best result in the Prem, set by Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven - 37.38 km/h. That's why you can't deny Federico’s speed!
Believe it or not, but this is exactly what Arne Slot wants from his wingers and strikers. At Liverpool, the Dutch manager is trying to concentrate on possession-based football, but he also wants to see directness and speed up front.
Therefore, even after all his injuries, Federico, who works equally well with both feet, will still be a perfect boost for the squad. With him in the lineup, the team will add in the final third in every single aspect! Don't believe us? Believe the statistics!
Last season, Federico made 37 appearances in all competitions, netted 10 goals and provided 3 assists. On average, the Juventus footballer pulled off 2.93 progressive carries per 90 and 1.44 successful dribbles per 90.
Among Serie A wingers, Chiesa had the third best dribble success rate - 51.06%. Only Rafael Leão (57.3%) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (59.45%) were ahead of him.
Besides, last season, no Bianconeri representative averaged more shot-creating-actions per 90 in Serie A than Chiesa (4.79). He ranked 5th in this metric among all other league performers.
Speed, dribbles, shots... What else? Federico guarantees Liverpool a huge improvement in their play against low blocks, because he is excellent at breaking into the box. Last season, Chiesa was the third best player for carries into the opposition's penalty area (58).
In addition, Federico will add creativity to the Reds' attacking power. In the 23/24 season, one of the White and Blacks’ leaders averaged 2.29 key passes per 90. If we compare it to the Premier League, Manchester City's Phil Foden had exactly the same number.
Basically, Chiesa’s efforts will not only help the Reds to break through opponents’ deep defense, but also find necessary gaps to suddenly create dangerous moments.
