His Porto team during the 2003 UEFA Cup final was built on half the budget compared to Martin O’Neil’s Celtic team - I remember reading the figures on a Celtic supporting website. Before then, he led to Leiria to their best ever finish at the time in 2000/2001, and then to 3rd place midway through 2001/2002 (I believe ahead of both Porto who he left to join plus Benfica), barely spending a cent along the way.

Just what I wanted to emphasize on.. A 5th place finish with UDL is not decent... It is absolutely wonderful.
@Gizo0211 ай бұрын
@@Kiralabobbizana237 agreed. When analysing Mourinho, there’s a tendency just to focus on the 2004 Champions League with Porto onwards, but what he did in 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 with Leiria, and 2002/2003 with Porto, was already incredible. Celtic reaching the 2003 UEFA Cup final was big news in the UK. So Porto actually winning the competition despite operating with a much smaller budget, cannot be underestimated. His time at Porto was already a big success before the Champions League run.

I was SUPPER lucky, born into a Ultra family (not as crazy as you might think ahah) i attended most of those games from 02 to 05 at the ages of 5 and 6 ahaha Travelled to Sevilla for the Uefa Cup final and got to witness historic moments in football, all thanks to Mourinho ❤ Sidenote that i think its really important - When Mourinho was at Leiria he developed a deep knowledge of the best hidden gems in the Portuguese league, with almost no budget. Then he brought most of them to Porto and with very few signings won it ALL. Some of those players moved with him to Chealse and Real. Players like Ricardo Carvalho, Deco, Costinha are some of the most notable Thats how he developed his coaching "gritty" style, that lead to the trophies with Inter, and why i think now he loved Roma. Hes built for the underdog clubs with "dogs" in the locker room.

"Filho(a) da p***" is the Portuguese equivalent to "Son of a b***h" or "Motherf***r". It's something you say out of frustration and not to be taken in the literal sense.

A fun fact about his career as Head Coach at Porto: At that time, since the 90s corruption in Portugal was at its peak at the hands of Porto. Prime masterclass at corruption that culminated in Apito Dourado just a little later after Mourinho left (one of the most absurd if not the most absurd corruption scandal in footbal... That went unpunished with a ton of proof, as they paid justice system to dismiss clear proof of corruption. The president even ran away and left the country very peacefully because he knew no one was going after him, even though they had a warrant). But here's the fun part: Porto under Mourinho was winning with sheer, pure football. They were playing really well (even if corruption was involved, they still played very well), so much they won everything. That shows how good Mourinho was back then at the start of his journey (don't listen to Porto supporters because they aren't imparcial and all they will do is accuse Benfica of invented crimes Porto made about them, to the point of comiting even more crimes to illegally gather justice information and internal communications from Benfica staff. Benfica does have some weird stuff thst went on a few times in recent years, but nothing compared to them) these are all factual. If you research into it, you'll find everything that proves it was a huge scandal. Juventus scandal or any other scandal is not comparable to this one, and has been going on to this day

He isnt perfect, he is a flawed man like we all are, but he is honest, will do anything to win, is able to get the most out of players and then get even more out of them. Tactically he is good but maybe not the best, he makes up for his flaws by being a motivational manager, a manager who truly understands the importance of mindset, of passion and pride. He instilled pride and passion into Mardid, made grown men cry after poor performances but built them up when they needed it. I believe he is the greatest manager in the sense he can walk into any dressing room and by watching the players on the field/socially etc he learns how to manage not just the team but every individual player on the team. He understood some players respond to criticism, some respond to prasie and some just need a helping hand. By doing this he had every player on his team willing to go to war for him.

There’s something bout Portuguese people man. I think he’s a family with cristiano. But Ronaldo’s egos not as much as his [mourinho] but I love that Ego. It’s okay to have an ego but make sure you’re Better at what you do. That’s why him and ronaldo are GOATs.
