Great video Addie, as we’ve been through Cha Cha’s heat cycle a number of times already. I am now owned by three whippets, Dobby having been added Wednesday. He’s the dog’s half first cousin as his dad was their half uncle. Their grandfather died at almost 16 years in late 2022.❤

Eris is so similar to our Maja. As you maybe remember they are almost the same age and have definitely developed similar. Maja was totally crazy as puppy and could play with herself for 4-5 hours in a day. It started to change when she turned one year. Then she played maybe for an hour. Now she just ended her heat and she just plays every now and then for shorter times. She rather wants me to go with her outside so she can run. It’s bittersweet. Puppy time has really been challenging but I almost miss it already. 🐶

Unfortunately, they grow up eventually. I too miss the early puppy stage and that's why I remind myself to not get annoyed with mischief, as I should enjoy every day with a growing pup 🙈

@@ShowPaws Manchester Terriers are very Whippety too..We met one today - You can see that Whippets probably had a bit of Manchester Type Terrier in them when originally creating the breed. Edit: Google says Whippets were used when creating Manchester Terriers!

Oh I didn't realise first 'Seasons' could be messier than subsequent ones! My girl cleaned herself in the day, but when she was sleeping, and woke up to move, it was a lot of fluid that came out. {I used washable throws and puppy pads on the bed} I was surprised at how much fluid from a small Whippet!.. As she didn't like being restricted 🚫 or hassled by males, I had her spayed - after first season. {She is a little narrow for breed standard} -BUT I did worry about putting her through the Spay op. {Luckily she was fine}

Not always, but for most of my girls that has been the case 🙈 I'm sure she enjoys her life as a spayed lady now, without having the troubles of an intact girl and flirty boys 😆

I was worried about what to look for in Heat cycle as never had an entire female puppy before - What worried me was a possible accidental mating on a walk if the heat was ''missed'' -luckily it was obvious, and my girl's breeder was a great help. I kept her in house and garden for 5 days during her most fertile time. she played with her female dog friends as well..quite safe!

Nothing to worry about, other than a potential small red mess and an accidental mating, just as Oakleaf mentioned. 😊 It comes and goes faster than you'd imagine.

I always recommend they grow up. They need their hormones for physical and mental development, so when it's up to me, at 2 years of age or after their first heat, as some have it after their 2nd year.

Nipping {In my experience}...Immediately stop playing and 'yelp' and ignore puppy if she nips. Only resume playing when puppy is calm. ..Hopefully her siblings will have taught bite inhibition - if she has been with Mum and siblings for 9 weeks this shouldn't be too much of a problem. Whippet pups have needle sharp teeth, so definitely no teeth on skin should be encouraged. Biting can be a ''game'' to them, but let them bite a toy instead. 🧸🙂

None of my girls have had a false pregnancy, so I don't have hands-on experience. But it's not uncommon, from what I know.

One more , for your 15 years experience , does whippet easy testicles won't drop ? If Male happen is it must desex ? any advice

If a male pup doesn't drop one or both testicles, I'd recommend neutering once they've matured, due to a risk of testicular cancer.

I wish you would have said that no one who is not a professional breeder should be allowing a female to go through any heat cycle. Every cycle early on significantly increases her chance of mammary and other cancers, as well as an infected uterus - a potentially life-threatening situation. A responsible owner of a whippet who is used as a pet, will spay before this stage of life. Only a show breeder should be allowing a female to experience a heat, much less multiple heats. (Yes, I have a degree in veterinary science and experience in veterinary medicine.)

you no more than a top uk vet who advised me to let them have a heat cycle to let them mature and i did a lot of research into this and the advise was around 50 50 so where do we stand no one knows its a matter of opinion who do you go with when one vet says no and one says let them have a cycle the owner has to make there own choice it seems

@@tonygarforth539 I think you're right. There are a lot of pros and cons each way. But as I said, no breeder should be making that decision without research and careful advise from vets.
