Hey, I’m the creator of the Forg deck that topped UK nats and I definitely resonate with a lot of what you say about arriving at the concept of your deck. I appreciate our decks are different in many ways, but they both apply the similar basic concept of getting the most out of substitoad by using Fishborg to unlock its full potential. You talked about how when playing the fish deck you realised that often the games you felt the most comfortable when you are just doing sub plays, and that sub realistically is the best card in the fish deck. I came to the exact same conclusion as you in the same manner. Playing fish was quite a good teaching experience to springboard onto this idea. I’m glad your teammate won this event with this deck, and it’s a pity you couldn’t compete yourself. IMO this concept of deck blows the regular hero frog stuff out of the water, and it’s only gonna be a matter of time before most other players start realising it too.

I've been searching for coverage of this deck since it first posted. Thanks for doing this, James.

I think it’s so cool that the 6 draw trap strategy just became popular last month and players like Brontë are already creating strata around that! He said he included the one Jar of Greed to bluff that he had 6 and making his opponent not respect his backrow as much

15:31 Why would D.D. Assailant be played over D.D. Warrior Lady?

Some people like it because it doesn’t get hit by ddv, runs over dyna, and can still trade with bigger monsters

We'll see if dream frog catches on but it's wholesome how affectionate the name feels. I'd like to hear more about how you feel about Salvage. I think it's a really strong card that fills a lot of roles. Gets you to Sub through Swap, lets you recover a utility frog they may have thought was dealt with, helps fuel Fishborg and discard traps. Just a really good piece that I think really completed the deck. Basically was wondering if this was a notable diverging point for you from Bronte and if you're warming up to it at all. Either way, expecting more experimenting cause it looks like the deck has loads of room to develop. Good work on the deck!

I had some versions trying Salvage but I always want to max Avarice and I thought I would brick with so many. Also cutting Flip Flop you lose a lot of utility with Salvage. At the end of the day they have similar functions to fuel the discard traps and fishborg as well as being good lategame topdecks, but Salvage is only ever finding Sub/Swaps, while Avarice can actually find you a Monarch/Junk/Traps. It's still good though for sure

Flip flop is a really interesting one. Such a powerful card but a lot of trade-off, both in the decklist and in the end boards

been playing this around a year ago but found that it doesn't counter the problem frogs have of only doing 1 thing a turn. Thats why hero frogs got invented initially to add 3 miracles. also first turn aim is to have sub plus dupe on field to allow a new frog every turn, but if this soft lock gets broken the deck is already massively behind in tempo. how you feel about those 2 points?

How is the GB match up? I find in hero frogs the hero’s help out a lot while the frog engine takes a bit of a step back. How does siding look like againest that match up for the winning deck in particular?
