It's imperative for folks to know that you *can NOT log out while mining*! You must jump to a safe spot first! Otherwise, when you log in again, enemies will auto-spawn and attack you. The basic builds included in these guides do not include means of protecting yourself, and if your cargo hatch is attacked you'll no longer be able to jump. This makes mining far less convenient when you only have limited playtime per session.
@Wablin4 жыл бұрын
Ahh very true! I've made that mistake. What you can do is jump to super cruise, and then logout while in supercruise. You'll start outside of supercruise when you log back on but no pirates!

First of all, great video, man! Really the best guide I've seen yet. I'm wondering, though... I haven't done any mining, but I've done quite a bit of trading, and it seems like trading is more lucrative when you take into account all of the rather specific tasks and outfitting associated with mining. I mean, trading is mostly travel, so it's pretty boring; but it's simple. You're in, you're out, and you're paid. All you really need is some decent cargo space and the ability to travel a good distance. And cargo racks are really cheap. I started trading with a DB Scout and worked my way up to a stripped down Type-9: Nothing but cargo. I was making serious cheddar, but I hated flying it. It's like dancing with a fat lady.

the best part of this game is the early stages and the battles to beat NPCs with low end small ships. making money too quick mean you miss the best and most challenging part of the game. i think people are crazy wanting to do this. i recall back in 2017 working for 4 months to same enough for a basic python... after working for months in an asp....

I also loved the early game when I started. I had about 700 hours in before I even started mining! When people make money too quickly, they often get bored without ever really experiencing the game.
@prisonerofthehighway10594 жыл бұрын
The problem is that they let the mining go on like this for years. They’ve basically made all the new players second class citizens. I’m in a weird place since my original founder account got hacked and I just came back after a couple years off. I was just gonna take it easy and only mine what I needed. This past weekend when everyone started disconnecting from the fleet carrier stacking I realized that the gravy train was about to be derailed. I managed to get myself back into Jamison Memorial before the patch. Hopefully FDev will do some sort of hotfix shortly. The patch has some pretty obvious unintended consequences.

A request for help... At 4:57 you say "we don't need any defence". What am I doing wrong then? Every time I turn up to any mining site I get blown out of the sky by NPCs (mining lasers don't do much to save me). Often I don't even make it anywhere near the rings before I'm under attack. [I'm not even playing in open] I absolutely can't consider going anywhere near these places without my combat-ready Python (or similar) which means I've got barely any cargo space (32T maybe) because the big slots are occupied by shields and hull/module reinforcements and the limpets and stuff take up all the rest. You make it look easy. Are you going in with a wing which is running interference for you or something? Why aren't you having to spend all your time running away from attackers? That's all mining has ever been for me - running away. It's only taken 4 years for the penny to drop that what I experience doesn't match what I see in KZbin videos which means there's something I don't know about the process. You seem like you might be smart enough to enlighten me. I think my longest session was 10 uninterrupted minutes but I still ended up losing both ship and cargo, making the whole thing costly in terms of both time and credits.
@Wablin4 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the message. It sounds like you have something in your cargo hold. When you drop into the rings, you have to make sure the only thing in your hold is limpets. If you have any minerals or anything of value, then the npcs which are there already will attack you unless you give it to them. if you try leaving and coming back, they will attack you when you return. When you enter with an empty hold you must let them first scan you, then they say something like "you're a waste of time" and thy leave. After that you can start mining. There is one other thing that might be a problem. You're meant to be mining in the rings. If you're looking for place in the rings called "resource extraction site", that is wrong and you will likely get attacked and die. Make sure you are going into the resource hotspots and not resource extraction sites. Hope this helps, good luck to you!
@MASAo74 жыл бұрын
@@Wablin Huge thanks for replying. I definitely used to make both of those mistakes but have also been attacked with nothing in the hold which doesn't make sense to me because videos such as yours prove that isn't what normally happens. Is it possible that I'm somehow triggering them when I do the DSS scan maybe? I fly quite close to the rings when I do that. I'll try to make a video of my next attempt because I bet that'll prevent it happening again :-) PS your videos have been a great help in many other aspects of the game.
@Wablin4 жыл бұрын
@@MASAo7 The only other reasons I can think of for getting attacked is a) other CMDRs being trolls, or b) maybe you have a bounty and NPC bounty hunters are killing you trying to get that from you. Of the two it's more likely that it's b. Feel free to share if you make a video and I'll take a closer look. You can make just as much with pve massacre mission stacking, just have to look it up. Mining has been nerfed since then as well, to about half the price.
@edmartin8752 жыл бұрын
Seems like you want to fight your way to a billion credits. There are a lot of players that choose fighting so I expect they make wages good enough to have some really good ships, but I'm not so sure about making a billion. I hope you did not plan on starting the game with a fantastic fighting ship handed to you. Everyone starts at the bottom with a small ship and 1,000 credits. I suspect a 1,000 credit gun mounted in your first ship is not going to win many fights. That means you will need to earn some credits with that first small ship until you have enough to buy a bigger and better ship and outfit it to either make more credits, faster, or outfit it for fighting. You may own a half dozen ships or more before you have that perfect fighting ship you have been dreaming of.
@edmartin8752 жыл бұрын
It can be done. You can start out as an ill-equipped Bounty Hunter with your starter ship. I would recommend a few missions to earn enough credits for a gun. If you can do a small handfull of courier missions, CARRYING NO CARGO, you can earn at least 10,000 credits for most missions, you will soon have enough to outfit your first ship as a fighter. A weak fighter that will be destroyed if your target shoots you. Go out where mining is being done and look around for a fight. That should be between the cops and a pirate. Join up with the cops and don't fire until they have shot the shields off the target. Then you shoot at the target. If you hit the target enough and survive you are likely to be awarded the kill whether or not you fired the killing shot. That won't make you many credits but many times the target is "wanted" and has a bounty on his head which will be all yours. I've seen bounties for a few thousand credits up to over one hundred thousand credits. You should not get into any one on one dogfights with these types until you have a good and outfitted ship. Long before you are an elite fighter, you will have the credits to have that perfect fighting ship. Always remember...Do not fly without rebuy.

@Wablin2 жыл бұрын
Well really you should learn how to land and launch, but play the game how you like. In order to automate takeoff and landing, you need to have an advanced docking computer fitted onto your ships internals. If you have one, and it's not working, double check your power management on the left panel to make sure it's getting enough power to function.

I have a question. Why don't you trust fleet carriers? ATM, the best price is by trading on a carrier pretty close to me.
@Wablin4 жыл бұрын
The problem with fleet carriers is they can adjust their prices, and they can jump system. Most of the prices you find online are at least a few hours old.
