But this Hungarian toughness in battle came in handy for Europe when the Kingdom of Hungary defended itself and Europe against the Mongol (Tatar) invasion and the Ottoman invasion. So heroically did the Hungarians fight to stop these hordes, but almost all of Hungary perished while the rest of Europe lived and prospered.

Some corrections. It is not clear why the Moravian Empire is included on the map, considering that the Hungarians destroyed it before the Battle of Brenta in 899. After the battle of Bratislava comes the battle of Lechfeld in 955, perhaps a few words could be said about how many campaigns the Hungarians led between 907 and 955 and how many times they beat the Germans. Just one example: there was not one battle at Lechfeld, but two. The first battle took place in 910, when the troops of the German ruler Luis The Child were completely destroyed by the Hungarians. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lechfeld_(910)

In the Battle of Pressburg, the German "Imperial Army" was almost completely destroyed. The Swabian Chronicle wrote about this with no small amount of malicious glee: "The arrogance of the Bavarians was broken, the Bavarian nobility was exterminated." The German losses were several tens of thousands.... Comparable to this, in the Battle of Lechfed, a Hungarian contingent of 4-7,000 was defeated. At that time, the Hungarians could, in an emergency, mobilize 40-60,000 horsemen and archers. Practically every male person between the ages of 12 and 45-50 was a trained warrior.

Lechfeld was a devastating loss to the Magyars. They lost a host of good experienced horse archers, who being dead, couldn't pass their skills to their sons and younger warriors. They still had horse archers after that battle, but they became a secondary force compared to the adoption of heavy cavalry after they converted to Roman Catholic religion. The Hungarian kingdom later on augmented their horse archers with Cuman horsemen.

@@AnthonyEvelyn If the Hungarians wanted to establish a state, they had to stop fighting all over Europe. As history shows, under the leadership of Ruler Géza, together with his son King Saint Stephen, they established the Christian Hungarian kingdom. They sought to integrate themselves into the states of their time. If they had not established a state, the Hungarians would probably have dwindled away after a while.

@@AnthonyEvelyn This was a big lie, because it turned out that there was not such a big battle in Lechfeld, and in fact only a small part of the entire Hungarian army took part in that battle! But where are the archaeological data where mass graves were found after such a big battle, such as near Mohács in Hungary?! Look it up, the German archaeologists have never found such a large number of graves where it could be clearly confirmed that thousands of Hungarians died there! The creator of this video also brought out that old anti-Hungarian propaganda, which was written by German chroniclers already in the Middle Ages, but which clearly turned out to be written only to discredit the Hungarians, especially to forget their many defeats! Also continues an old anti-Hungarian propaganda, such as the attacks of the Hungarians against the western countries, about which Hungarian historians have already proven that not even half of it was true! Historians have proven with data that the Hungarian campaigns were never of a conquering nature, and that even robbery was not the point, for they never took even chariots with them, but only their horses and their replacement horses! Historians have proven with precise data that, based on an agreement before each campaign, the Hungarians went to the aid of a certain lord or duke only at the invitation or request, of course in exchange for payment! It is also clear that they wanted to assess the strength of the European armies in this way, and for no other reason than for defense reasons, since especially the Westerners often they expressed their antipathy against the Hungarians, especially the Frankish emperors, who wanted Pannonia for themselves for centuries, especially since the Avars! But since the archaeological and archaeogenetic researches of recent years have clearly revealed that the mainly Ugric-Hungarian population of the Avar period lived it in large numbers the Magyars who came with Árpád, and they may even have invited the Magyars, that is why some historians consider it much more likely that with these campaigns the the Hungarians and Magyars who formed an alliance here also aimed to weaken the Franks. While the Avar military elite had been destroyed by the Franks a century before, the basic population was no longer able to reorganize military defense, and that is why they looked for eastern allies to stop the Frankish and Germanic conquests from the west and the Bulgarians from the south. By analyzing the contemporary data and comparing it with the latest archaeological and archaeogenetic data, it is increasingly clear that the Magyars were the military tribes that came with Álmos and Árpád, who, according to the chronicles, returned to their Scythian-Hun heritage in the Carpathian basin, where the "Ungars" and "Szeklers" awaited them! Historians ignore the fact that the names Ungarus and Hungarorum appear as early as the 8th century sources, which are all about the Hungarians or Ungarians of the Carpathian Basin, such as in 760: "Via Ungarorum", or in the 790s Paulus For Diaconus: "Ungarus". Or Liutprand in the epitaph of a Lombard king, in the Annales Rotomagenses and Annales Uticenses in 793: "regnum Hungarorum/Karolus rex vastat". And if anyone still doubts, I will quote a few lines from the genetic results of the Hungarian Research Institute: : „The presence of the ancestors of today's Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin has been continuous for thousands of years" „A new database of 16,000 mitogenomes of 172 ancient and living populations has been created and investigated their connection system based on artificial intelligence method. The new algorithm recognizes all haplogroup correlations, regardless of the time of the process behind the correlation. A new methodological article has been published in the journal Molecular Genetics and Genomics by the researchers of the Archaeogenetic Research Center of the Hungarian Research Institute, the Department of Genetics of the University of Szeged, the Institute of Technical Physics and Materials Science." „The Carpathian Basin is an unbreakable unit Applying the method to the investigation of the former and present-day populations of the Carpathian Basin, the authors found that the vast majority of the present-day population is from a Copper Age (4500 BC-2800 BC) - Bronze Age (2800 BC-700 BC) can be traced back to a basic population, while immigration from the eastern steppe region seems to have had a smaller genetic impact on the population in the tenth-eleventh centuries." Regarding the Battle of Lechfeld, the creator of this video also only tells the old medieval narrative about the "great defeat", but says nothing about the fact that archaeologically no traces of this great battle have ever been found, because according to all real data there wasn't even that big battle! The Hungarian official historian's position today is that the battle between the Hungarian and German armies on the Lech field near Augsburg ended with the defeat of the Hungarians, but the loss itself was nowhere near as great as the chroniclers of the time reported, but this battle was the just when the Hungarians said that they would no longer participate in such campaigns! And they keep quiet about this only what the Hungarian memory says, for example what the Lehel kürtje legend said, which clearly shows that the Hungarians were betrayed there, even by Emperor Konrad, because they were allies of the Hungarians in this battle! And yet this "battle of the Lechfeld" is considered one of the most significant events in German history?!

How did the role of cavalry evolve after these battles? Did the Hungarian horsemen inspire military tactics in other regions?
@greatboxingen
@greatboxingen Күн бұрын
The role of cavalry evolved significantly after battles like those fought by the Hungarians. Hungarian horsemen, known for their exceptional skills in mounted archery and their ability to quickly maneuver in battle, became a model for cavalry tactics across Europe and Asia. Their ability to execute hit-and-run tactics, combined with the use of both bows and lances, influenced the development of cavalry units in other regions. In particular, European knights and other cavalry forces began to adopt more versatile strategies, incorporating elements of Hungarian cavalry techniques, such as greater mobility and ranged attacks. This evolution led to the integration of mounted archers alongside heavily armored knights, changing the dynamic of cavalry forces in battles. Additionally, the success of Hungarian cavalry in battles like those against the Mongols encouraged other regions to improve their own mounted forces, blending traditional heavy cavalry with lighter, faster units capable of more fluid tactics.

Did any Magyar leaders survive the defeat at Lechfeld? If so, how did they respond?
@greatboxingen
@greatboxingen 3 күн бұрын
Yes, despite the heavy defeat at the Battle of Lechfeld in 955, some Magyar leaders did survive, and they responded in ways that showcased their resilience and adaptability. After the defeat, the Hungarian forces, under the leadership of their commander, Taksony, retreated, and the battle marked the end of the Hungarian raids into Frankish lands for a time. However, the Magyars did not disappear; they adapted to the changed circumstances. The Hungarians faced considerable pressure from the victorious forces of Otto I, who had successfully defended his realm. But rather than disbanding, the Magyars regrouped and refocused their efforts elsewhere. Taksony, who was the Grand Prince of the Magyars at the time, took a more diplomatic route after the defeat. The Hungarian leadership, under Taksony and his successors, began focusing on internal consolidation rather than further military campaigns. Taksony pursued alliances with neighboring powers, including the Byzantine Empire and the Slavs, to secure Hungary’s borders and stabilize the realm. He also worked on strengthening the internal structure of the Hungarian state, which would be key in their future survival and success. By the time of his successor, Géza, the Hungarians had turned their focus inward, transitioning from a loose confederation of tribes to a more centralized state. Géza’s son, Stephen I (also known as Saint Stephen), would later go on to establish the Kingdom of Hungary, marking a significant shift in Hungarian politics and society from nomadic raids to a Christian, organized kingdom.
