4:33 a little bit of a correction. She thought the sunrise was mid, but it was sharing the experience with her new companions that made her realize why her old companions missed having her at the previous sunrise, and she found joy in watching fern enjoy the sunrise.

Frienen success was that we can all somehow relate as she is technically in a story about us in everyday things antics and all. while all in a fantasy setting.

[Long post, because Freiren really relates to my personality] To me its because the character and author really understands the immortal mindset. Even as a human you can have the immortal mindset of Frieren. So, to me Freiren is some special kinship. I understand her predicaments but also do not fault her aloofness. Just as you made points, the same points can be made about people with finite view of life compared to someone with an infinite one. For example, the mundane take more importance as you "grow" immortal despite the natural aloofness that comes. For Fern and Stark things have to have a super important meaning or be achieved by a certain time frame. They are heavily objective focused; much how common people obsesse over fame and status. Marrying by a certain age, etc. Milestones. The line Freiren says about magic being her hobby is WAY deeper than people realize. I always made this thought exercise since I was very little: If I was immortal how would I spend immortality? Doing what? Would I be driven insane eventually by inertia? Or repetitiveness? I feel both the audience and characters fail to commiserate to what living a really long life means. Not just seeing people come and go but living with the weight of it. This is what makes Freiren so attractive to me. She is similar to me, but also still somewhat naive, she is on the right path though. Especially when she starts to take into account Fern, Starks, Sein "mortal" lives and maturities. When you regret time not spent with people it is only...hmm a guilt of sorts. A pity party. It is best to focus on the time you did spend together. Look at Frieren's flashbacks when things finally sink in...The biggest examples are when she finally realizes what Himmel did with The Ring and when Himmel saw through her when he tells her the sunrise festival is her kind of thing. I'm glad Freiren is "cold" in that regards and doesn't get trapped in guilt but also be unafraid to shed tears for her friends. Speaking of the sunrise epiaode...The sunrise isn't about the beauty of it, Freiren doesn't care or she finds that uninteresting. The sunrise is about: sharing with loved ones. The pleasure of your loved ones finding pleasure. That's when Freiren regrets not going with Himmel, Eisen and Heiter on her first journey. She realizes everything when she enjoy watching Fern smile in the festival. Freiren collects magic (and really dumb magic at times) because her hobby is bringing smiles to people. She is happy when others are happy (INFJ suspect?) Himmel saw through her even though she has never shared in words with anyone such emotion. Thus why he said the sunrise festival was definitely something of interest for Freiren.

Thank you so much for taking the time to craft this incredibly well thought out response about Frieren. I appreciate how you broke apart every little aspect of her quirky mannerisms. I definitely couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m glad the series resonates with you on such a personal level!

This entire premise is debunked by Kraft existing. Hes an elf whose lived for thousand+ years as well and hes nothing like that. He was very personable and aware. Not having emotional intelligence has nothing to do with being an elf or living for a long time. Its only her who is like this.

Interesting, I havent watched it yet but was curious what it was about because of its popularity. It reminds of what I want from Shoujo animes/mangas, they always show how a pair end up as a couple but we never really get stories of the pair after the intial romance, how they navigate lifes hardships yet hold steadfast to their love because its quite easy to let go and move on to someone else. But anyways as you said, it a fantasy isekai setting and what happens after. I hope more stories are made like this in different genres

Friendships, meaningful ones, are spent engaging with them, learning about them, and enjoying their presence. It’s hard to do that with a screen in front of you (unless they’re online friends, of course).

To be fair, the official music video for Frieren also uses many poignant scenes, including the one with the ring. Ideally, I hope my video will get more people into the show and those scenes will make more sense and mean more after they’ve experienced it.

1:57 When you mentioned, internally seek fulfillment, you should be comparing to Lux, a witch from The Dawn of the Witch. In one episode Lux talked about how it became boring after living for more than 700 years. After living for that long, she stopped looking for romance and only looked for something to keep her entertained.

I heard from a lot of people that Frieren came out of nowhere but that is not true. Frieren is one of the most popular manga in japan that is not from Shonen Jump and it has the same director as Bochi the Rock.
@LukewarmTakesYT11 ай бұрын
I guess the sentiment (at least for me) comes from the anime/manga circles people are often in. Hype is usually built around the big shonens (JJK, Bleach, Dr. Stone, etc) while the shonens without an established anime fan base aren’t pushed as much. For me, I’ve never heard of Frieren and had to learn about it when it blew up. It goes to show people should pay more attention to non-shonens jump mangas because they can be PEAK!

I've red a good part of Frieren so I knew the source material was good the problem is the adaptation. When I saw it was madhouse, i started to hope. I must admit tho that even if I though it would have some success I had no idea it would become this great
