Great chat guys! Us Aussie EV YTubers were over the moon when the first Australian FC was announced and worked overtime to get the word out and record as much content we could from the show. So happy it worked and more Aussie shows are planned. Might even see EVM Downunder one-day - free bed on offer if in Brisbane 👍

Robert's long-lasting LEAF is the reason I own a (used) LEAF. EVM's reviews on the Kia E-Niro is the reason I'm trading my LEAF for an (used) E-Niro. There's simply nothing wrong with the LEAF as a daily "Town Car" and it hooked me on EVs. However the Kia means I can do Airport pick-ups (Bordeaux & Toulouse) without a charging stop (I get Chademo anxiety).

Have you been watching the MacMaster, in his Taycan, and Geoff Buys Cars, in an old petrol Volvo estate, driving across Europe?
@steve_787
@steve_787 Ай бұрын
@@hamshackleton unless Geoff is in a Panamera it's a pointless comparison. Will they be doing a CO2 comparison at the end as well? Driving through France & Spain will be very green on the EV's side vs a heap spewing out 300g+. Over 1200mi will emit 360kg vs 25kg for the EV (assuming a 50/50 split of charging in France/Spain and getting 3mi/kWh). Now double it for the return journey. Keeping that Volvo on the road will have caused 57.6 tons over it's life assuming 8000mi/year from new. Granted there was no alternative back when it was made so maybe an unfair assessment. But min 2.4ton per year vs 0.5ton and you can quickly see how EV's offset their emissions, and they will only get cleaner. Will be down to 0.25 ton by 2030 (or less) but that Volvo (if still on the road) will carry on emitting the same.

@@hamshackleton I'm still waiting for the EVMan/MacMaster interview. MacMaster made out that he was totally up for it, but it doesn't seem to have happened yet as far as I am aware. Odd that he somehow finds plenty of time to collaborate with Geoff and others who share his lucrative narrative, but not yet had the opportunity to accept any constructive education.

The Macmaster v Geoff videos, whilst entertaining, are ridiculous. The ICE driver, Geoff, hardly ever stops, the EV driver, Macmaster, loves to stop and either doesn’t charge at all or does everything wrong in order to maximise charging time eg charging to 100%. People still fall for the nonsense though, encouraging yet more EV hatred.

20+ years ago I went to Oulu in Finland which is a long way north of Helsinki. It feels a very long way from anywhere. We landed at a small airport and were taken to our hotel. Outside I thought crikey they have even parking metres here in the middle of nowhere. I commented to my guide, and he explained they were not parking metres, but electric chargers for the ICE vehicles to enable the locals to pull up in winter, plug their car in to stop the oil in the sump from freezing - turning to wax, because the temperature got down to -20 degree C for weeks on end. The reason I was in Oulu was to see a papermill where they were producing 2000 tonnes of paper per day 365 days per year which was then literally shipped all over the world. I guess in Scandinavia electric and cars would not such a big deal as ICE vehicles have needed an electric help for a very long time.

Oh… I was a regular viewer of Bobbert behind the wheel long before "Fully Charged." I really loved his "Carpool" episodes and wish he'd do more of them in his current EV for Fully Charged. He should bring back some of his previous passengers like Shappi Khorsandi, Patrick Stewart, Alice Roberts, Brian Cox, Stephen Fry, and especially Chelsea Sexton. IMHO, Seinfeld and Corden blatantly plagiarized HIS great idea! As for projected dates for the transition to EVs, yes, there are many who bitch, moan, whine that they hate the government telling them what they can and can't drive, but… for crissake, earthlings, do you have any understanding of the climate crisis and what's causing it? I can only imagine that these same naysayers were pissed as hell when they were told they could no longer light up their cigarettes on airplanes, in restaurants, public buildings. 🙄

When I look at electric cars I see them as a fire hazard that can’t be extinguished by the fire brigade. When I look at ICE cars yes they are a fire risk as well but the fire can easily be put out by the fire brigade. The difference between electric cars and ICE cars is the electric car fires are a chemical reaction fire called thermal runaway and this types of fire are far more toxic than an ice car. This link is showing you just how difficult it is for the fire brigade to put out an electric car fire. Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6WqlnSnbtd1m7ssi=Qs_4nfeWyxO5c130 I wouldn’t buy an electric car new or especially second hand.

Perhaps the biggest fire risk is your brain being fed so much conflicting information. Don’t worry about it, just sit in your ICE car in the garage with the engine running and your worries will all go away. No danger at all. Battery tech is changing. Get over it.
@davidcottrell570
@davidcottrell570 Ай бұрын
ICE cars don’t catch fire, of course, and if they do they are easy to control. But having a tank full of fuel with the right mixture of air, they do explode. Not much anyone can do about that. Healthy scepticism is one thing, but the grist for your opinions is being provided by a willing press looking for controversial opinions as clickbait to generate advertising dollars. Meanwhile, the oil industry looks gleefully on, joyful at your doubts in the knowledge they can generate huge profits for just a little longer, pollution and climate change be damned. You wouldn’t try breathing the stuff from your tailpipe, but the real damage is done at the refinery. And the downstream effect is the catastrophic damage and loss of life from wildfires and extreme weather events across the world, thanks to our number one polluter, big oil. You know perfectly well that car for car, EVs have a 2% chance of catching fire compared to ICE. Ten years ago, we had the odd problem with air cooled batteries. Current packs are liquid cooled with multiple fail safes. LFP batteries lack the flammable component entirely. In reality, you are no different from horse owners back in 1907 saying that automobiles would never catch on when the model T came out. But at least their horses created useful pollution - horse manure. Yours is hot air with more than a soupçon of carbon dioxide. Best get over it. There are over 23 million EVs on the road. They aren’t going away any time soon.
@MrAdopado
@MrAdopado Ай бұрын
All cars produce appalling toxic fumes when they burn. The fact that an EV fire may produce toxic fumes is therefore nothing new! Thankfully EVs going on fire is relatively rare whilst ICE vehicles going on fire producing toxic fumes happens much more frequently. The stats are readily available. (By the way do you put your phone into a fire proof box whilst you are sleeping ... a phone or laptop battery is far more likely to burn your house down .. yet we all live with the risk because it's tiny.)
@alanhowemusic2457
@alanhowemusic2457 Ай бұрын
@@MrAdopado Many thank for your comments. Electric car traction batteries require a far higher current to charge the lithium ion battery pack compared to a laptop or iPhone product. The higher the current the more risk of thermal runaway. An electric car traction battery fire is far, far more toxic compared to a petrol or diesel car fire. Just look up what toxic gasses are produced by an electric car fire, but what is more worrying is that the fire brigade in every country has no answer to putting out the electric car chemical fire. So people who drive electric cars are casting their fate to the wind. Until Lithium ion batteries are removed from electric cars this is a huge potential risk that can happen even though electric car fires are smaller in volume they are a very large risk.
