I've seen multiple fights won instantly with a single fancy kick back spin to the face or jaw or head that the opponent NEVER sees coming and they always end in instant knockouts!!! They CAN have that unexpected element of surprise that nobody expects or is prepared for to guard against. It always comes out of nowhere. You'll see it a few times in MMA but you see it way more in Asian bloodsports or muay tai!! I think it really works!! Some matches don't even last more than 1 second. In other methods of fighting they usually take longer and barely result in knock outs or they lose to submissions but they also take a bit of time to accomplish. But the fancy spinning back kick or fancy axe kick or fancy jumping spinning back kick always instantly k.o. and win at just the right moments. There's compilations online of just knock outs one after the other. If you can pull it off they're insanely effective!!! O.O

Replace the stick with a sword/machete in a life or death situation. Don't go for the obvious target. The real target is the weapon hand. Very effective. Sincerely, a military veteran.
@michaelanthony23952 жыл бұрын
that would defeat the purpose. if all you do is pressure test then you regress to your most basic techniques. it takes drills, hence why western militaries since napoleon emphasize drills before pressure testing, unless the point is to show someone the importance of drilling prior to combat by making a fool of them.

@@michaelanthony2395 when you're in actual combat, especially with a blade, your fine motor skills shut down big time. The basics are what work. The basics are what keep you alive. The basics cut through the bullshit of flashy technique. The fight should be ideally over in a couple of seconds. It happens that fast.
@kalivr19082 жыл бұрын
@@thearmchairmystic you're right, basics can save your life and you are also right that we should target the hand. The only concern I have is what you meant by "flashy techniques". If you meant knife techniques then I agree with you, the knife is insanely fast and risky that trying to catch eat is a death wish but if you are talking about Arnis/Kali drills in general then I have to disagree with you because those drills have a basis and aren't meant for modern knife fights. FMA evolved from Sword and shield combat arts hence the Sinawali movement, The grabs and disarms of singlestick on the other hand are meant for sword duels with binding in mind. This might be hard to believe but if you watch HEMA videos involving Messer and Arming sword, you will see movements where someone is able to grapple and either counter attack or disarm the person after both swords are in a bind. Funny enough, they seem to resemble more of the FMA drills despite being Western based. Basics can save a life but technique can either give you and edge, end a fight faster or save your life at a split second if you know what you're doing with it.

Is it really a big deal to aim at the air when in practice? Boxers and kickboxers aim at the gloves when practicing teqs or combos as well. It is hard to learn something new when you feel you are in danger.
@michaelanthony23952 жыл бұрын
yes. hand fighting, defensive techniques and ranging are necissary for strikes, but you drill strikes separately. now pad work is something else entirely, to drill strike selection, two targets, pick the best one first, strike one or both depending on arrangement, and do so fast and accurately. these are very different than sparring. the equivalent boxing training would be drilling strikes and parrys but parrys are not emphasized a lot in boxing so you wont see that drilled a lot. you will more often see a bounce back instead of a party as a default boxing defnes vs a forward strike
@antondelacruz93622 жыл бұрын
@@michaelanthony2395 that isnt what im referring to. Im saying if you practice a teq, esp without gear, theres nothing wrong with swinging at the air, because youre just getting the movements and positions down. It is no different when you practice teqs by punching a guard rather than a face, knee with thigh rather than knee, kick with instep rather than shin, etc etc. The sense of range is sacrificed for the benefit of other skills and attributes.

I agree and disagree with a lot of the comments on here. I have a pretty rich history and feel I can legitimately speak on this. I am a Combat Marine Veteran. I have worked as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse for about 11 years now. I have also been a martial artist. I have done Muay Thai, Boxing, Judo, Fillipino Martial Arts, Tongkat Serak, and non classical Wing Chun. I practice Fillipino Martial Arts daily. I do Karenza every day. I occassionally go spar with some other Fillipino Martial artists when I can. With ALL that being said. I will say this. 90% of what I do with Fillipino Martial arts in terms of the Karenzas, the drills,...the flows, etc. Would probably not work or be thought of in a split second Life or Death incident. Just being honest here. The most basic elements of what I practice would possibly work. If 2-3 guys came around the corner with baseball bats, skateboards, etc. and were coming after you to KILL you,..beat you to death. So much of the techniques that are promoted in Fillipino arts would not even begin to work. I'm just being honest.

You would have to consistently carry a long heavy blade at all times on your person when you go out. Are you prepared to do that? As an FMA person, I do carry a barong in a sheath under my jacket which by all counts, is more than enough to take off fingers and wrists. However, when the weather gets warmer and you're shedding off heavier clothing, that simply is not possible. Therefore, blunt force weapons are the next best thing you can have. You can pulverize bones with them all day long. In highly secured areas, having the option to improvise a blunt force weapon may be the only thing you can do.

Still wrong and not functional. You target the weapon hand, most effective way, blocking stick is not the same as blocking a weapon in real life. Attack the hand then do counter. Also its best to teach a newbie a basic strike. You're already teaching a counter to a newbie that can't do defense and basic strike which is wrong. You can't run if you can't walk. I know its introduction but you're teaching a lot of bad habits.

Deflecting is an important skill and is most overlooked. In machete vs machete videos you see online, watch how each combatant take turns swinging at each other. Targeting the limbs and moving in and out of range, each trying to take a hand and when one reaches and misses a hand shot, the other dives in for a head shot. That is the inherent danger of solely focusing on hand shots. It conditions you to have tunnel vision for just one target. You need to also know how to block a strike to centerline should that range collapse. Nobody is only going to go for hands all day, people adapt to your tactics. They make fake you out and they will jump in for your head eventually.
@exogendesign45822 жыл бұрын
@@georgieman1910 I wish I could show you how to do it right, In a machete fight, it won't take more than 20 seconds, and usually don't happen much in real life, you deflect an attack with your barehands while you struck with other, also each strike has a number. Getting hit in head is unlikely to happen if you know how to stance and throw a strike. I was a bit confuse at it when I was starting out, until later I found out it just won't happen coz doce pares has footwork unlike in video the guy is standing up, throwing a cheap strike, wrong stance and a lot of bad habits.

@@exogendesign4582 I’m not Doce Pares but I will say we go full attack in protective gear and it’s pretty rare we find ourselves able to block something using our hands.
