We purchased two Polywood adirondak chairs and a small table. They are GREAT and should last more than a decade in Florida humidity. I made two wooden chairs and they rotted in three years of Florida heat and humidity (and bugs).

Our 1960's ancestors knew the future would involve plastics. They would be so proud. They're crying happy tears in Heaven.

Great that this is in Indiana; a state with very low recycling. Plastic is not infinitely recyclable, like aluminum. Plastic degrades over time and with each process, like cardboard. Also, only certain plastics can be recycled cost and energy efficacy. It is still better to try to reduce plastic usage, like not using plastic shopping bags or straws.

Be great if one day we had 3d printers in our home and the plastics for packaging could be recycled and reused instead of most of it going to landfill

If the owner of Polywood didnt invent the product, invest his time and money, take risks, and work through the challenges of starting his business, the employees wouldn't have these jobs. That's why he makes the big bucks and they get paid scale.

Governments across the world need to heavily subsidize and incentivize these ventures. It's a win-win in terms of working for the environment/proper waste management and also generating employment

Subsidies will only make scammers come around. The government should not be involved in the economy that's why we have so much crisis. But yes they should make these kinds of industries easier, less bureaucratic and more flexible. Instead of subsidizing those Enterprises better to reduce or eliminate taxes, and laws to make it easy to develop

@Phlegethon look buddy. The plastics are already there. Trying to allocate them is way better than letting them swim around in our oceans

No maintenance, colorfast without paint or stain/sealer....great addition to the building supplies quiver. Excellent choice for exterior trim, particularly in damp climates. Have used on my boats for storage compartments, trim and even flooring on my cataraft, to much success and satisfaction.

About three times as expensive as wood. Takes a lot of energy and dangerous chemicals to recycle. Wood is renewable, and create oxygen as a by product. Wood can also be re-used until it rots away by itself.
@Fixorfish
@Fixorfish Жыл бұрын
True, though I am unsure of the "dangerous chemicals used" aspect. Considering the "as when new" longevity and no need to paint or otherwise seal (eliminating more oil-based products!), I find the product to be quite acceptable for many outdoor uses. Including storage boxes and compartments on my boats ! I am a retired custom furniture designer/craftsman, as well as specializing in exterior makeovers to upgrade properties with unusual "trim" on doors and windows, decks, porches, pergolas, hot tub surrounds, outdoor kitchens, etc. Absolutely love wood like cedar and redwood for such projects, but Polywood can be used for many, many things, with little to no maintenance, whatsoever.....ever. Save "trash" from filling landfills AND no maintenance ? I am on board !! (pun intended !)
