@@Thebuilderofthings1 Dude, I get your perspective, just curious about hers - considering that legal marriage is indeed a guarantee of some quite important things - and wondering why she would forgo those protections...other than just to get to be with you ; ) Ah! After 34 years especially, perhaps you have 'common law marriage' in your state or you've executed documents to give one another those guarantees in spite of not actually marrying-? Otherwise, unless you are both completely independently well off and have another place to go to, one of you is going to be SOL in the event one of you gets sick, dies, or otherwise abandons the other - candlestick words won't help at all then.
@Thebuilderofthings12 жыл бұрын
@@usualsuspects42 Yes, we do live in a common law state. It's also no challenge to simply sign a document making possessions legally binding between both of us. A John Hancock takes care of that. I will also say this. Ceremony does not guarantee one will be financially capable or responsible, it does not guarantee there will be no substance abuse, spousal abuse or child abuse within the marriage. It also won't guarantee there will be no lying, cheating, stealing, coveting a neighbor's spouse, rape, murder and every other conceivable 'sin' you want to toss in to the pot. That's why we reject these concepts and have survived very well without them, in spite of many others having failed miserably WITH them. Repetition and observation has proven this to us for decades.

I saw Gary at a grocery store in Palm Springs last month. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, "Oh, like you're doing now?" | was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen cans of Schlitz in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the cans and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any Telephasic Anomalities," and then turned around and winked at me. I don't even think that's a word. After she scanned each can and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Marriage is treated like a magazine subscription, and is too often not regarded as a commitment to grow old with another. The weakness of immaturity, and folly is to try and grasp at youth one more time, and use that for control, and manipulation angles. IMO, the goal should be more of a partnership for life with support, and dedication. The church was successful, but they lied too much about other aspects of this so it's a free for all these days, and it's more hit and miss for all the institutional promissory vows.

Let's not put his lack of luck in holding relationships together entirely on Gary. Gary Oldman had a VERY rough, VERY unhappy childhood...you know, the kind that leaves you with emotional scars, poor communication skills and more issues than Vogue. His da beat the crap out of young Gary whenever his da felt like it...which was most of the time. When a kid grows up fearing that next beating every single day, it does some damage to their whole life. No wonder he had addiction issues. No wonder he had relationship problems. But at least he used his pain to fuel his genius. Man is a brilliant actor.

He has a new baby and then ditches a newborn and struggling wife, what a colossal piece of sh*t, definitely lost alot of respect I had for him.

He played a real drunken Irish thug in State of Grace with Sean Penn and Ed Harris. He was great in that role. Now I'm wondering if he was really addicted to alcohol at that time. He was REALLY convincing. All the actors in that movie gave a top notch performance

Wow. He abandoned his 3-month-old SON? So, he's a Deadbeat Dad. Then he raised his two younger sons, and still ignored his oldest son? Wow, that an asshole. LOL...
