I still can’t accept that after the fall of the wall , the responsible persons were not brought to justice. They were their own people. Many of the responsible vanished in government positions, it’s disgusting. It has puzzled me for years.

It would be pretty hard to unify a country if you’re going to vilify some of the leaders, no matter how much you think you’re right in doing so.

Erich Honnecker never faced justice. Agreed, unacceptable. He gave direct orders to shoot escapees, even when they already made it to West Berlin. That had potential to escalate Cold War out lf nowhere

There is some truth in what JFK said, but millions migrated from Capitalist countries such as Greece, Italy, England. The difference is, their governments didn't try and stop them.

I've often wondered just how many Gestapo members became active members of the STASI post WW2? I would bet there was quite a few. One of the worst cases of escapees being shot was the case of Peter Fechter. At just 18 years old, he was gunned down just inches from the west, and left for over an hour bleeding to death at the foot of the wall in view of everyone, nobody went to help for fear of sparking an international incident.

Just imagine, having a regime so “good” you need to keep your people in captivity and surveilled at all times. Berlin went through a lot. First almost complete destruction after the war, then Being divided into 4 sectors, only for a wall to devide the city. Berlin has really risen since these dark times. And bears the scars still of a city with so many stories to tell. A marvellous city, really

It was the late great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who once said he had a dream - a dream that one day segregation would be ended and that his people would be "free at last, free at last." In the homeland of the original Martin Luther, that dream came true on November 9th 1989. To paraphrase that great speech, the little girls and boys of the East would sit down at the same table as the little girls and boys of the West before Almighty God as One. The real tragedy of the Wall, apart from the victims who lost their lives, was that many of the perpetrators of that monstrosity were never brought to justice. Those that were tried received very light sentences. Never forget those who fell, fought and died for freedom.✝️✝️✝️

Real communism proved to be a step backward in social development , not a step forward in comparison with capitalism ( as Marxist theory teaches ). It was serfdom and feudalism, threat of war between ,,progressive nations`` like SU and China ( due to CPs ideological differences ). When I happened to visit the GDR, I had the feeling that this was a ,,chemical``, unnatural country with idiotised population though higher living standards as compared with the Soviet Union. Both vanished but we in Russia received an unprecedented criminal capitalism which lasts despite all theories of ,,progress``.
