The back half of this video is perfection, in terms of just showing the gear and quickly cycling through various sounds and use cases. No wasted time, no talking, just doing exactly what a user would do out of the box. Thank you! Purple James was probably the best sound I heard from any of them.

Hi Henning - you can use the rotary encoder on the Ampero to flip thru amps, cabs, etc. Click on the list of amps so that it’s highlighted, then push down on the rotary encoder (knob). You can now turn it to quickly go thru the list.

The main thing to me when it comes to these multi-effects units is their ability to load impulse responses. Both the Mooer and Hotone offer this feature while competitors like DigiTech and Zoom don't. I prefer Hotone products due to their better build quality and better written software.

I got the Gigboard and I certainly wouldn't have if you couldn't load IRs. Its speaker cab stuff is really not that great, but the amps through some good IRs sound really good. Looks like the Hotone has more amps and a cool computer interface, where the Gigboard has a better hardware interface but no computer app. But yea, in either case, the ability to use IRs are a must.

I know we have the output to go straight into the board with the Ampero , and I'm an old fashioned guy, I run out 2 to tube amps, both are using a very good quality clean tone, 1 amp is a Peavey classic 50, the other head is an Egnater tweaker 40. So you realize I play stereo most of the time,The Ampero has some great Fx...but I sometimes wonder if the Fractal FX8..wasn't the way to go...But I have gotten compliments that shows we have done here in Chicago on the way my guitar sounds using the Ampero.

I had all this units and used them live. For me the Headrush is the best decision, cause of his touchscreen operation and sound. The Mooer and the Hotone have a little gap when switching the patches. That's a no go for playing live.

Thanks for this great comparison video. I have had a quite a few entry level modelers in the past: a Zoom 404, the Line 6 POD XT, Amplifi Fx100, Mooer GE 200 and now an Hotone Ampero. All I can say is that the GE200 and Ampero with IR loaders are just incredible. I loved the GE200 high gain sounds but found it very stiff and a bit sterile for lower gains. I prefered the Ampero as it feels more natural (feel more tubey) and as overall better effects and more realistic clean and crunch sounds.

I had the Gigboard. What I found is that I had to EQ it pretty aggressively to even get it to sound right, but it sounded GREAT when dialed in properly. I was a tube amp and analog pedals guy and never bothered with EQ pedals, so I was frustrated at first, but thanks to the Gigboard I learned a ton about EQ'ing and filtering. Fortunately, the touch screen made everything so easy to adjust at home or live. Not to mention it has something ultra useful that many others don't: a precise drop tune - similar to the DIgitech Drop and just as good, so I could play songs in Eb without having to tune down. Using the Helix now I truly miss that feature - can't believe Line 6 still hasn't figured out how to do it yet.

Henning I'll add an alternative to these floor modelers. As an example. A Marshall Origin 20H Head (298€)+Two notes Torpedo C.A.B amp sim(279€)+Two Notes Torpedo loadbox (229€)=806€. Yes you don't have a CAB but you can record directly to a PC. Plus you get the all tube amp and just like the OX loadbox the two notes one has great cab sims in it. Downsides are, you need to buy all pedals and other amp heads if you want a more diverse sound. But through the years, I'd bet that most just keep to the sound they like the most and that's all. The above solution is for those who play at home, and can't have a 4x12 CAB maxed to 10 killing all their neighbors.

The ge300 is indeed a different animal and shares another sound engine like the mooer preamp live which is something like a tone capture, comparable to the kemper. (maybe 75-85% like the kemper sound and feel wise) and it does sound a lot better then the ge 200/150 which already sound pretty damn good for the price! But i returned it because of the most of the time lacking support and got the kemper. (also tested the helix lt and it is nice, but i thought why not go full top tier)

'Fun thing': I was practicing the intro riff of Prince's When Doves Cry, which uses an octave pedal (I understood). So, I wanted to know whether they had such an effect onboard. Not all brands offer a walk in the park finding that out. Which is weird. You are supposed to buy 'a lot', but not really care what this lot contains.

Being honest, I was just listening to the sounds whilst surfing on the web, so I haven't seen what pedal you played. When you switched to the Gigboard, which I found out when I opened the tab with video I was shocked how nasty and harsh it sounded. I was convinced not my type of pedal, BUT then again I listened to it in the background and did not watch it and when you just switched between cabs and mics it sounded sometimes pretty awesome. I think you just have to fiddle around and find the sound that you want as always. Anyway thanks for the review. It is really a good overview of all the ''budget''-pedals out there. HoTone and Gigboard win for me in terms of ease of use, sound and price.

I have one and all I use are the IRs. You can download some Celestion IRs that were made for the unit that sound great. My only complaint is the effect list is fairly small. You have everything you need but the variety is a bit limited. However what you dont get in effects, the looper makes up for. The looper function is amazing on this thing with ridiculous amount of loop time and stacking options. I combined it with a pair of the 8 inch powered frfr speakers and it sounds pretty awesome. Key point, if you get one of these, turn off the global eq. Its a serious tone suck and makes everything sound terrible. I fought with it for a few weeks before I realized what was happening.

@@ArcanumA just boost around 5 khz and play with the amount and width of the bump until it sounds good. Sometimes i do as much as 8 or 9 db depending on the amp. that frequency area is where most of the clarity in distorted guitars is. I also recommend a high pass filter up to somewhere roughly around 150hz to clean up the full band mix.

I have the Mooer GE100, which appears to be the predecessor of the GE150 (or maybe it's bottom of the range, below the GE150). I have a user preset which turns off the amp voicings, and I use it purely to supplement my amp's onboard effects, as well as to provide a noise gate and tuner. It and the GE150, I agree, are perfect for beginners educating themselves about effects.

Hello.... Thanks for the videos.... Our household is still pretty new to guitar. Looking to get something relatively small, for learning with, hoping to not meed the full Helix or Headrush pedalboards. Our main needs, is something easy to use and learn, as we are new to guitar, and also new to effects. I'm hoping to be able to dial in sounds "similar" to a range of 60s, 70s, 80s, and some newer songs... and then easily access them again later for practicing. So, wanting flexibility in the sounds available, easy use, etc.. not super concerned with perfect models or the best sound, we are beginners, not playing in a band or anything... I don't know yet that we would NEED an expression pedal, so the Gigboard was one on the list, we could add a pedal later if needed... We also have looked into just a few normal pedals, as well as possibly a Mooer(cheaper option), and others. Considered incorporating a small multi-effects along with standard pedals... There are just too many choices to know where to start. Now Line 6 has announced the Pod Go at NAMM... Price looks ok for the Pod Go, but the user interface of the Gigboard just looks so easy, especially for young people used to touchscreen devices. My daughter will be using this as much as me, she will be 10 in a couple months. The main drawback I see with the Pod Go, it seems limited to choosing just 4 effects, I dont know if that is enough, or if it would be limiting us....and it makes no mention of a looper. So, which few multi-effects should I keep looking at? Or should I start with a tuner pedal, an overdrive, and then later just add one effect at a time, like delay, reverb, phaser, chorus, etc...? Your video are full of info, we need someone knowledgeable to help us get started playing with effects... any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I've got some doubts about the mooer that you may have the answer for. When using the looper, the first two foot switches are to slow down 50% and play it backwards, right? (on the ge200) If so, can they be assigned to more practical functions like changing presets or turn pedals on and off? I really don't see the use for the standard functions. The play it backwards seems like a bad taste, useless gimmick, and the slow down option would be useful, to practice, on a sub menu with the tempo being adjusted, by a button, on much smaller increments, preferably 1%. I know that you can change presets, when using the looper, by pressing two foot switches at the same time, and then using the first two foot switches as normal, but then, you got to press the two, again, in order to use the looper functions, am I right? This seems very impractical, and a way to mess up, either by pressing the wrong switches or getting distracted about the pedal instead of what you're playing. So, all I what to know, really, is: when the looper is being used, can the first two foot switches be assigned to their original function (change between presets)? By the way, if you know any good use for the play backwards thing please let me know. I'm interested in buying one, but this is putting me of. It seems like a joke, not a proper function, and I really don't like jokes on the client's dime. Also, can the loop tempo be slow downed in more useful increments inside the menus, or is it just 50% or 100% (again, if that's the case, that's a joke, not a function, I'll still have to loop the parts if I want to learn something. If I'm struggling with a song, I'll get there by playing it marginally faster every time, not twice as fast). Thank you!

FYI: My current stage rig is an old Marshall MP-1, a TC G-Major, stereo into a Mesa Boogie 20/20 (EL84 Stereo) power amp - controlled with a Behringer Midi pedal - through 2 separate 1x12 cabs = HUGE TONE. I’m in the market for a helix, hell I had an helix lt, but even that is still too big.. and the hx stomp too small. I like the form factor of the small headrush, but tbh I’m not convinced by the sounds. I wish line 6 made something about the size of the hotone ampero or the small headrush. I would immediately buy it.

I could maybe be interested in a a Helix (or Lt), but hauling that huge heavy beast around is not really an option, they should make a Helix mini with a similar size to the Mooer GE300. I have been pretty interested in the GE300, i really liked interface, functions etc, but most of the sounds ive heard wasnt that great. I wish i could try some of these pedals for myself, but possibilities for that is not that good.

Bought the Harley Benton DNA git. I'm sorry I got it. It's a fizz machine...at least the presets are. I'm sure it might be ok for recording or playing at low volumes. I own a JCM 800 and an Orange Rockerverb. It doesn't make sense to me to replicate these amps thru a prosesser. I like my analog pedal board..a boost and some verb and delay in the loop works and sounds much better to me. I had high hopes for the HB...but just another modeler ...nothing special. I should have bought a chorus pedal instead.

two questions... why are the most modellers so expensive? I bought a BossGT100 a few years ago for 360€. It would be great to show the time between two patches. Is there a gap ? do you recognice it or not? My BossGT100 has no Gap between the sound. The (very expensive) fractal audio II has a remarcable gap (heard it at a show with steve vai a few years ago...) And i thought taht the Line6 Helix has a gap too...

Love the sound of the Ampero, but from what I've read, it's got the most failure rates. No idea about the Headrush. The only Line 6 product I've ever used is the POD HD 500X. The problem with Mooer is that they seem a bit too overpriced. They work good, have no/very few failures, have a nice interface, good sound. But seriously the pricing? GE 200 looks like a good deal but then it doesn't have individual control knobs or stomp switches. GE300 is suddenly too big and too overpriced for basically the same sounds as a ge200 + a few extra switches and knobs, which are useful though. But not worth the extra $500. They recently came up with a GE250, which I had high hopes for, and it's good too, but then its basically just a ge200 with 2 extra foot switches for $200 more. Really hate the absence of control knobs. It's a real PITA when you're on stage and need to make quick adjustments according to the sound system. It's like cycling through the alphabet with only one rotary knob on a keyboard for typing something. Edit : Now, look at a Zoom G3XN for example, it's got such a good interface, 3 displays, 6 foot switches, ability to add multiple instances of the same effect in the signal chain, decent sounding amp models, about 12 individual control knobs and all that in the same footprint as a ge200 but for just $220?! TF! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Ampero has malware in the firmware updates when you download it straight from Hotone's website. It also doesn't have a native ASIO (Windows 10 blocks unsigned software (probably because that too has malware)) which you means you need to use a third party one, and all of them sound bad. It defeats the whole purpose of the Ampero also being an audio interface if you can't use it's native ASIO driver. I want to get rid of mine now that I can't update the firmware. Hotone is awful.

@@mcr0741 Actually, here's an update. Hotone just released their own asio driver on their website. But... in FL studio you still need to use asio4all if you actually want to record via usb and still be able to hear the DAW(metronome for recording). You can plug the headphones directly into the ampero use that as an audio interface but it sounds super digital and fizzy, and so do the recorded tracks. However if you plug your headphones straight in your computer and then select asio4all and then within it, you select Hotone's native asio driver, it sounds good to very good. But man, I'm not a noob at this stuff and it took me months to figure out how to get a decent sound out of this thing. The ampero is the most user unfriendly product I might have ever used.

I have a Hotone Ampero and as much as I wanted to like it , it kinda sucks. I recently downloaded the latest firmware and it had malware on it. I couldn't believe it. I downloaded it directly from their website, and they thought it was a good idea to put malware on it that my anti-virus caught immediately. That's an automatic 0/100. Despite it being an audio interface, when I try to use it via USB cable to record, there's no native Hotone Ampero ASIO driver that shows up in FL studio. This means I need to use FL studio's ASIO driver which sounds good but has horrible latency that I can't get rid of. Or I need to use ASIO4all which sounds mediocre to pretty bad, depending which patch I'm using. Apparently, Windows 10 blocks the ASIO driver from Hotone, because it is unsigned, which is super suspicious. Why is it unsigned? I'll just have to assume that it has malware too. This is a -100/100 because I essentially can't use the Ampero for what I bought it for which is quiet direct usb recording with my headphones on. The sound quality doesn't sound anywhere near as good as it does in any of the youtube videos I saw when I was researching the Ampero. Just with my headphones directly plugged into it, it sounds very digital and fizzy. When I use the overdrive pedals into my real amp, it sounds... OK at best. Not bad per se. The only time it sounds quite good is when I use it via direct USB recording, and with FL studio ASIO driver (not ASIO4all) but the latency makes it extremely hard to record. I haven't found a way around it yet. I haven't sold it yet, because I really really want to like it and I want it to work but after downloading malware of their official website, I have a seriously negative view of Hotone and will never buy any of their products ever again. I don't want to sell my Ampero but it has been collecting dust for the most part since I bought it. Deeply disappointed.

Looking at the Moore ge300, boss gt1000 ect (tried the pod go after I was told it did this but didn't so I sold it, plus wireless coming out pissed me right off just afterwards) some clever little boffin must of added this feature to a cool modeller

I watch reviews, I like everything! In real life, there is no way to see, listen and compare. Glance and desire cannot focus on one of three options - Boss ME-80; Boss GT-1; Mooer GE150. The Mooer GE150 is very attractive, the presence of Drums, Boss, it seems to me more convenient to use. If I understand correctly, the sound can be tuned to whatever is necessary, I’m not good at it. Please help with advice on which to choose, I’ve been suffering for more than a month, the Tomann catalog has already become a reference book! Maybe you advise which other, no more expensive than the ME-80? What is the best option in your opinion? 🤔
