I would have killed to have a beginner rig like this back when I began playing in the early 1980s.

My first guitar was a Harley Benton, my second and third too. I have never regretted it. These are verry good guitars for the price! Especially the Harley Benton guitars over €500. In my opinion, they can easily keep up with guitars over €1000

I am in a similar position. Low on musical talent, and all i can do is relentlessly practice something until it kinds sticks. I enjoy it though and its enough to tag along at an open mic night with the songs i know.

Your not the only one. Playing with metronome and drum tracks have really improved my timing...
@carosel438 күн бұрын
@@crock2434 Its kinda funny. Usually when i mention to a musician that i have low talent and will never be that good they tell me its bullshit and i can be the next hendrix if i practice enough. Now i am good at another hobby i do, and i am instructor there, and i know for a fact that some people have a talent for certain things and some dont. I know its true, know im not the next hendrix, and yet everyone else seems more upset about that than i am. Knowing i will never be that good means i can enjoy any small progress i make and take pride in the achievement. Knowing i will never be the best means im not upset by falling short. I can just relax, enjoy playing my 4 chord songs.

Same here. I've probably been playing longer than you have. My playing has flatlined, which keeps me from buying more expensive guitars.
@carosel437 күн бұрын
@@JorgedelasAlas Define expensive? I have some nice stuff in the 500-1100 usd/gbp/eur category. I enjoy having nice gear and they are easier to play in some instances than cheap stuff as they are better set up and all that. Even if i was twice or 3 times as good as i am i still couldnt financially justify anything more than i would already spend so i dont consider my ability (or lack of same) to influence me to much. The only exception is my 'gig gear'. i dont have millions of pedals, fat off great amp etc. There's no point as i just use a simple little emulator pedal into the PA on the rare occasions i play electric at an open mic. Acoustic is similar and i only take my cheap tanglewood guitars to the pub as its not a disaster if they get a little donk or dent. Also most acoustics sound the damn same when you use the pickup so i save my nicer acoustics for home or the occasional acoustic jam nights i attend. In any event, if you want to buy yourself a more expensive instrument as a treat i would just go for it. I still enjoy the sound of my taylor, even if i am just giving it cowboy chord treatment.

I like Harley Benton guitars. I've got the 8 string multi scale, and (apart from a dodgy volume pot whiich is now fixed by Thomann) she's a dream to play. The only eventual upgrade that this guitar really needs are the tuners. If they are replaced, then I could see this instrument easily being capable of lasting well beyond the beginers level...

That amp is the one that comes with the Gear4Music pack, it was the first one I got ten years ago. Awesome sounds for something so small, not boxy or muddy, bright clean channel, but the overdrive circuit is spectacular. Lovely break-up going to full rock with clarity even on six string chords. Not essential to my comment, but when I later upgraded to a Vox Pathfinder (a better amp) I ran the two in stereo to get my first taste of spatial sound. Great days.

Great demo + review video Henning! - I will also suggest for a beginner guitar player to buy the Harley-Benton TE-62cc telecaster Kit. (I have 2 of them) It is that iconic FIRST electric guitar "Telecaster" design and also much easier to use, to upgrade and to play than a Stratocaster. - But LET THE KIDs decide and pick which guitar style/Design they really want to start playing with. They must love to use it and play with it for many days.

If not, it’s an affordable platform to upgrade later on. And AND if you Pay 75Euros on the nut PLEK service the file you a new bone nut and intonate the guitar with prefered string height. Well worth spend money of you not know how to setup your guitar, add with some good strings. Thats a pretty good base to start on. 100 times better than what i started with 25 years ago. But 25 years later im still a beginner.

For beginners, just getting one of the free tuners on a phone is a great alternative. It's also why it not being included is excusable i'd say.

As a beginner you can easily get away with using a free tuner app on a smartphone, what properly every guitar beginner own or at least has some kind of access to nowadays ☝ Or just tune to a Tuning video on KZbin 😉

I have a HB beginner kit (it's make 5 years now) with the SG and same HB10W, the tuner was include. I wish there was a guitar stand, that's not very pricy and would have been usefull from the start. I had to buy one and pay another 5€ expidition so not very budget friendly for a 10€ stand. The fact that there is no additionnal strings is also a problem : I played one year with the original expedition strings until they were rusty and one broke. So the frets are in pretty bad condition. I finally bought a behringer audio interface, downloaded reaper, free ampsims, pitch shifter and tuner effects and it's sound way better than the HB10W but you need to have a computer and the interface. You can also run the ampsim through the aux/phone input of the HB10W and it's better than the distorded setting. 5 years later, I replaced the tuners by HB locking ones, the bridge because it changed color since I put too thick stings on it before I knew what i was doing and the pickups because I had wiring/noises issues. But i probably woundl't play guitar today, if those kits wouldn't existed.

Amongst the "beginner kits", if there could be a custom package deal of sorts, rather than a rather restrictive pre-made set. What I mean is that, the choice of guitar falls within a price bracket for an overall package price, same for the amp or a multi-effects unit, for example. Then there's the accessory pack that is the strap and cable, or, a deluxe kit that includes a few cleaning items. Surely that is not too far fetched? Why don't music shops do it?
@Tigermaster19868 күн бұрын
Keep in mind that if you buy everything separately, you'll end up paying the same price. Currently the guitar is 89 euros, the amp is 59 euros, and when you add the strap, the cable, the gig bag, etc., it will reach 168 euros quickly. When I bought my bass from Thomann, I did not buy the beginner set precisely because of this reason - I already had cables, straps, and a tuner, and I wanted a better gig bag, so I bought just the bass and the amp.

That really wasnt as bad as i expected. Although i am convinced most of the HBs are reasonable guitars even at that price. I bought a simular kit with the 40 amp and a SC 500 and i still like the guitar alot. I also have a SC550 and yes thats better. I am way way way to bad at playing still to consider a better guitar. I am looking at a positive grid spark for the fun of it.

It's really not a long time ago where the only thing you got below 200€ (or all the so called beginners set) was crap. And I mean crap. Not that it sounded bad, the guitars were off tone on some threads, your fingers were bloody after playing,... And the amps had more noise than sound.
@Garbox808 күн бұрын
No fret buzz? I don't care if those strings are set sky high, I'd say 10 years ago you wouldn't find a guitar in this price range that wouldn't have a lot's of it. AND, you just tuned it and it's pretty good. No fine tuning needed! Again, those cheap guitars used to be impossible to get fine tuned. That's pretty impressive (and that amp too, didn't sound like someone threw a speaker on a toilet bowl).
