@@DeathByDegrees8 wouldn't that technically balance out I had warrens adventurer and warrens phobe (so no stress reduction basically) a new one was deviant tastes, love interest (can't even stress heal if he wanted to stress heal) getting sick of not having enough slots to put people in either

I had a PD on one of my current saves with both Love Interest and Deviant Tastes. I got rid of Deviant Tastes, then she died because I had to retreat from the Darkest Dungeon (I hate DD3).

TLDR: Quirks are important because they can have the impact on the game similair to an itemslot The significant positive quirks and their counterparts are: Beast and Eldrich hater and slayer Clotter (+ bleed resist) Early riser (+ speed if light>75) Hard noggin (+ stun resist) Night owl (+speed if light75) Quickdraw (+speed first round) Quick reflexes (+speed) Unyielding (+ % deathblow resist) less significant quirks: Eagle eye (+% crit ranged) steady (- %stress) explorer quirks (+scout chance in certain area) Some treatment quirks (forbids certain stress relieve in town) Trap quirks: last gasp (+speed if health50) Tapeworn (more food) negative 'adventurer' quirks Lygofobia (+% stress if light

Learn from my mistakes- the curious quirk (or compulsive, not sure which it was) was the reason I had to fight the Shambler for the first time. I wasn't paying attention and just running a party to level up a few new heroes, and my Curious Occultist went to investigate an altar the same time I tried to light a torch, leading to our pixel perfect accident that nearly ruined the run. We made it through, but the whole party ended the dungeon hitting 100 stress (trying to get the everyone afflicted achievement so I wasn't too bothered, but still not ideal).

If you do decide to do a video on trinkets, what you could do is give us trinkets based on roles (Maybe divide the recording into several videos in that manner). For example, you could have a video dedicated to stunners, giving a brief list of the heroes who fit those categories, which trinkets affect the relevant traits, and then a run down of which trinkets you would give to the heroes if they were to be in that role. You could also have a video which covers the trinkets with extremely niche uses (Fasting seal/bloodthirst ring, crimson curse trinkets, Ancestor's Portrait).

During my last dungeon my OG Vestal got the quirk that reduces stress when your torch is above 75% (from a curio), then after the dungeon she got the quirk that INCREASES stress when your torch is above 75%, i was like, wtf do you want from me!!

One other thing; claustrophobia is more of a problem than you said because it's not just walking around in corridors, it's also fighting in them. And considering the Shambler can only be found in corridors that means it's something to watch out for. Not hugely important, but something to be mindful of.

Uhh... I'm pretty sure you can encounter the shambler in a room battle if your playing no light or if you use the altar, but then flee the fight.

All wandering bosses are fought in corridors. This includes the Shambler, Fanatic, Collector and Thing from the Stars.

I can confirm that you can use the right item even during forced interactions, I do it all the time. The window you're given to right click the right item is actually long enough to do it easily if you pay attention.

The only time I ever noticed the positive gambling quirk was when I was forced to stress-heal and saw they had that quirk. The character ended up winning an orange trinket while stress healing.

Just got this game a week ago been playing my ass off. Thanks a bunch for all the videos, very helpful. DD is such a deep game. Took a while to get into but once you stop being overwhelmed and confused it's so fun. Been "wasting" game time in stygian mode, perhaps not smart for a first time player but love the feel of it, feels like hardcore game mode in other older games I used to play. Playing stygian without previous experience is a blast, don't care if I can never progress into the endgame dungeon.

I do hate that Reynauld (the crusader at the start of the game) always starts with the kleptomania quirk and it always seems by the time the sanitarium is actually unlocked, the kleptomania quirk is permanently locked in and cost a shit ton of early game cash (which he is likely to steal on the first ruins mission anyway) to get rid off it. I don't often dismiss characters but I will dismiss him if I have another crusader lined up. Raynauld, seriously, does "thou shalt not steal" mean anything to you! Asshole.

I am pretty ruthless when it comes to getting rid of people. Sometimes I'll get someone who seems to attract negative ones like flies. If they're locked in, the cost in both time and money becomes significant. It's almost always true you're better off getting rid of them than trying to 'redeem' them IMO. Reynauld is pretty much always dismissed eventually when I play, lol. That capacity to steal stuff when you need your resources in the early game makes him a potential cost not worth bearing as I see it. Cheers

That's why I upgrade my stage coach first thing when I walk into town and dismiss Raynauld straight away after the first mission. There is a sliver of hope, however, that you'll find a curio to purge klepto in your first runs. Then there is also the achievement of doing the darkest dungeon with Dismas and Raynauld - which I have already failed miserably.

If you get super into the game, you should really check out the challenge mode runs. DD is a great game and there's a ton of fun to be had with it.

I hoped for a analysis about the 4 roles vs. Positive/negative quirks. It was a nice review, but would be more useful if you just highligh which quirks work better/are useless for a healer, or a stunner, or the stress healer or the dmg dealer. I got some of this on the video but hoped for more.

I like the light dependent items and perks the most because with a few caveats, light is one thing that you are completely in control over, unlike the health %, enemy type, or stress % of your party members. I went through the first 40 dungeons with an A team and a B team; characters that had warrior of light and a vestal composed the A team, while characters that did not produce light and were not hindered by the surprise % made the B team. My A team was used for high risk scenarios, like bosses, and my B team finances the expeditions by doing some lower risk stuff. Worked so far, no deaths at 40ish weeks and getting ready to tackle the darkest dungeon with fully upgraded forge and guild.

In my last play through my vestal was beast mode! She always went last on every round, always acting last as a healer has lots of value for the same reason why always going first has value, heal before the injured character acts again. The thing is you get a better vestal trying to go last then you do having a vestal who is trying to go first.

I know it's too late, but sometimes better keep bad quirks for some characters, for example I keep - 5 acc for ranged skills for every melee char, because it will not affect any ability, but if char have 5 not so bad quirks, your char will not get another one. So I keep gambler, known cheat, - 5 acc for range, and others. So basically removing every bad quirk is not money effiecient.

With a Bank you can have arbitrarily large amounts of money, so being money efficient isn't always important.

The scouting quirks are excelent for the antiquarian. You would use it just in regular dungeons to buuld up other herors and pack up spme gold, so they work better in the antiq. In DD dungeons it wont work anyway... but you wont bring antiqs there. Weapon/armor tinker are excelent for heroes from the stage coach...but shouldn't be locked. When you get lv. 6 and armor/wpn tier 5 you wanna get it replaced by other positive qkr.

Hard skinned I almost always lock in because yes you get critted and hit for 30 damage. That's only 3 damage. Most chars that would be taking that sort of damage would- I find be hovering around 30-35ish range anyways so that few points can keep them from being deathdoored and take 2 hits instead of one. It works better when on people you sorta bank on getting hard like people with guard or you already have protect on them like the Acc and prot ring. Giving you 20% instead of 10% which lets a soft target soak a lot of damage. More times then not when I'm running light though, this tends to be most useful on people taking a giant's club to the face with out banking on. "If they crit."

I like Slugger/Unerring myself, mostly for the times I get that and Warrior of Light on the same Character. I have a Hellion with that combo on my main save right now, and she's a fucking monster. Permanent +20% damage is fantastic.

"You're not going to die by being afflicted by a disease"? Boy, that's the reason I came to watch this video. I had a bounty hunter with zoophobia, nervous, warrens phobe in one of my runs. I said, okay, I'll manage that. Then the first fight breaks out, one of those pigs vomits on my guy and gives him the worries (+30% stress). From that point on, one vomit gave him around 30-40 stress - I was like "HOLY FUCK". I had to dedicate my stress healer and my camping almost entirely to dealing with my bounty hunter overstressing. Guy spent 3 weeks AFK after the run, 1 for the worries, 1 for the stress quirks, and 1 for stress relief. Moral of the story - never ever ignore quirks when picking your comp. Better to have a weird comp with decent quirks than a good comp with terrible quirks.

You can any item on a curio while your hero is talking before the forced interaction. It's not a bug and it works for any forced interaction.

and actually the leper can be a really good tank, especially for you cause of the leper's heal skill which gives bleed and blight resist, and a fairly big heal

And there are some curios and stress heal activities that give some specific quirks. The urns in the ruins aways give guilty conscience. The meditation atv. can get unquiet mind or calm quirks. There are others which give the local scouting quirks, that are good for an antiquarian.

For me when I see compulsive or kleptomaniac or curious, I know I won't have a great time if I bring that char into a dungeon. It's extremely bad because they might read books or just take away loot as I won't be able to use curios.

When is the Sanitarium unlocked? I'm in 4th week now and already have 6 negative quirks locked in. Even if you take fresh meat from the stage coach, they start with a negative quirk that gets locked on the first mission, I feel.

On this video Filthy seemed to imply at the +10 Acc for the slayer quirks would be enough to not need items. I was under the impression that Beast Slayer for example gave you +10 Accuracy against beasts and +3 crit against beasts. Not +10 accuracy against everything, and +3 crit against beasts. I'm not finding good documentation on this, so I'm not sure. Does the accuracy apply to everything? If so these quirks are way better than I thought.

It only applies to that enemy type. In a nearly monotype dungeon like the Ruins they can basically free a trinket slot.

Robust and Corvid's Resilience have somewhat more impact since the Crimson Curse uses Disease resist to determine if a hero gets infected. But I do agree that it is still not worth locking in Robust, but Corvid's may be worth it since 33% is a lot. Dipsomania is also much worse than it used to be with the Crimson Court because it forces interaction with Wine Bottle crates. And since those give you campfires, you don't want your people auto interacting with them.

I know it's too unbalancing, but I fantasize a positive quirk called 'Takes no Bullsh*t'. Essentially, it would make the game too easily, but , I love the idea. Klepto stealing loot? No BS backhands the stupid out of them, and the treasure goes to you. Abusive character mouthing off? BACKHAND! Dipsomaniac about to drink something stupid? BACKHAND! and so on. =p Not really in keeping with the game, but it would be oh so therapeutic.

I usually leave the insignificant negative quirks on a character, and let them get locked in. For example, quirks affecting ranged attacks on melee characters, or the ones that prevent Tavern stress healing. At least early on, when there may not be sufficient gold to remove quirks immediately, you can avoid some of the nastier ones from getting locked in. And in any case it's not worth spending the gold to remove if the quirk has no real drawbacks.

Quirks like Early Riser, Photomania etc. which are activated above 75 light are even better now with the DLC area functioning as radiant light (75+) at all times. In general, the DLC is far easier if you play the entire game in 75+ light as opposed to 0 light considering you can focus on the best trinket (Sun Ring) in combination with some of the best quirks, and with the recent patches, radiant light is buffed even more with dodge given to your characters too.

eldritch altat coral and parchement are garanteed removal of a random quirk even if it's not the one you want (sacrificial stone 25%) troubling effigy is 100% positive quirk (taking into account you use the right supply of course)

What about quirks, that may force a character to pass their turn? Imposter syndrome, or something like that.

I wonder if filthy has ever considered intentionally rolling with very slow healer specially for pulling people off deaths door. It's quite easy to slow crusader who will virtually always go last and can heal any rank from any rank with cry, for instance. In fact I t thing crusader is the only character we can heal any rank from any rank. If your other healer is reasonably fast you have a good chance of dramatically lowering the chance of deaths by bookending the combat phase.

There are some other pretty terrible quirks that are worth removing (unless you consider your heroes to be extremely expendable). Increased stress, reduced damage and reduced speed when torch light is high for instance, I always get rid of those.

Worst negative quirk early on is Klepto... epescially the first 8 fucken heroes you get have it (excluding Ray-Ray and Disy), so the Vestal, PD and the next 6 heroes had it.

You'd think Fast Healer would give +10% to heals received and Healer's Gift would give +10% to heal skills. It'd certainly be nice, and I think it'd be fun to have negative quirks for those, too, like "Slow Healer" and "Cruel"

I'm just 25 mins in, so I don't know if you did this later in the video, but you should talk about exceptions to certain quirks. Like Last Gasp no being a bad thing to have in a healer. Or keeping certain negative quirks, like Lazy Eye on purely melee characters

close, it counts as 76. Which for trinket and quirk purposes, is practically the same. Also helps with bullshit accuracy :p (that reference may be too subtle)

Is quirks mods are worth it? Or does it makes your game more easier and less challenging. Because there are a lots of quirks.

Skilled gambler - always put them to gamble and you _CAN_ make some money but it's usually quite low.

I find the 10% goes before damage to marked targets or before something like human hater. This means if you do 15% added damage to human. You're doing 11.5% -maybe rounded.- because of the damage quirk. I'm not sure if Ranged or melee damage buffing works the same way but if you attack a marked target with say 100% marked damage. You will so 120% because of the quirk. So on some classes like the occultist who has a belt in damage buff to types, an easy buff can make his crits sting just that added bit. With that said it's more for dps chars anyways and even then how effective it is depends on what you plan on using the hero for. I will lock it on dps heros even ones with out marks but if it's on an off class I plan to use as a healer, DoTs dpser or stunner most of the time I will flat out ignore it. So 80% of the heros I won't enjoy locking it on them. When someone like the Leaper I would want to lock it onto, I almost always replace in the Leaper slot. A put a bounty hunter in his way. Even when he can't stun well in the first slot. He can work out some good dps with damage buffing + damage to stun + using a stun hound master + running speed on both of them, hound being left faster for clear reasons. Then when I'm stuck with some tank and I'm already healed up I can mark off their prot then do double damage and have higher crit. Making Leaper for dps pointless since Bounty hunter does everything he can but better.

I haven't tested, but i believe it increases ALL stress gained in corridors(the static stress i have confirmed).

I have only just started playing Darkest Dungeon and I already lost Reynauld to bleed on the first mission. The fool I am. D: Also like my first mission one of my heroes I just got had a negative quirk locked in. I never even had the chance to try and remove it...

stack those bleed and blight resist buffs and exterminate negative bleed and blight debuffs... DoTs kills and deal more damage than many enemies...

Some of my idle CC affected heroes get their locked quirks unlocked. It s pretty annoying. Is there a pattern about it? Like a wasting hero is more probable to lose locked status or it s random?

Quirks are what make or break a great champion. Nothing feels better than taking out that party full of your best elites, all of them with like 3 or 4 on point quirks. I don't agree that they are quite as powerful as a top tier trinket on a one to one basis but they aren't far off. I agree that as a whole they contribute far more to a character's true power than all of their trinkets because you have up to 5 positive quirks and only two trinket slots. I just wish they didn't cost sooooo damn much to lock in both in gold and opportunity cost since you have to spend 1 week per quirk to lock them. The price scales aggressively too, so whether you are buffing a newbie at the start of the game or a champion near the end, it's always going to be a real kick in the nuts when it comes to your wallet. Still, they are worth every penny if you can afford to do it. I think the most off putting thing about the cost of locking is you are paying not to actually gain anything, but to remove the small chance that you will get unlucky and a new crappy trait will replace it. It's basically like a 1/10 chance per mission that you will get a new quirk at the end and that it would have replaced the specific quirk you locked. That's a huge amount of gold to protect yourself against a 10% chance. Even with all of these costs and odds stacked against it being a good investment, a really good quirk is still worth the investment.
