I finished my first attempt at mastering one of my own songs yesterday and I saw you posted this video. I had been thinking for a while that I need a Neumann in my arsenal. I waited until this morning to watch this video to listen with fresh ears. The fact that the mic placements and performances were different, didn’t drastically change the outcome. With the right EQ and compression, any clean take will do the job. Now, I’m not sure I NEED a Neumann, but I still want one. But I can say, I NEED that Retro Tube II because it does something different than my RODE NT1A. Once again Henning, a job well done.

That t.Bone SCT700 sounded really great to my ear, and there really was not a bad mic in the bunch! I have some pretty cheap mics at home, but I've been able to get some really great sounding double bass recordings by blending a $30 USD Tascam large diaphram condenser, an MXL ribbon, and a direct signal from the pickup through my preamp pedals. Super cheap, but it works for me! And my shitty home studio is on the opposite end of the spectrum from Henning's awesome studio! :D

Great demo! Owner of an SC100, SC600, and SC450 USB. All of them great mics for the price, but the SC600 is stellar. I've had it for a few years and love it through and through. The SC450 sounds a bit harsher, but it's great too. The SC100 works great with acoustic guitars and mandolin.

I use a SC 450 for teamspeak, discord and general voice chats. Nobody believed at first, this was a 80€ mic. Even a studio tech swore it was something totally different costing lots more. Thanks for the comparision. I'm looking at the retro tube for this hollywood bariton voice for the narator voice for audio books. Furthermore the SC2000 astounded me. The 450 was not bad, but the 2000 sounded even more detailed without getting harsh.

Unexpected video, but very interesting. I've had a t.Bone SC-1100 for...yeah, about 8 years. Sold it this year because I got a Lewitt. (It took me 1 day to sell it. Go figure.) It served me very well and ended on a big number of songs, also was my microphone for gaming / chatting. Solid stuff. Workhorse. And it was in my budget back in the day. Meanwhile I also had 2 other t.Bone microphones, a smaller handheld and the MB 7 Beta. The latter is my current talking/screaming mic.

I don't have the most high end headphones, but for the vocals in the mix I can't hear any difference. For my ears, the most differences to hear were in the acoustic guitar parts. Would have been nice if there was a demo of "spoken words" with these mics. So I might order a SC450 and Retro Tube II to check them out for my use case. Never the less, great comparison video!
@EytschPi4211 ай бұрын
thanks! Even with the high end studio monitors here we could NOT tell a difference in the mix.
@johanneschristopherstahle339511 ай бұрын
I could hear a difference on cheap earbuds 😂 On the guitar I liked the 1100 best. On vocals it was the 2000. The retro tube sounded interesting in the mix, but the 2000 sounded more balanced to me. The 450 did quite well, too. But sounded a little bit thin for my taste. As I said: Cheap earbuds. Could be totally different if I listened on good speakers or headphones.

"Using high-end tube mics is kinda stupid" [for usage as a cab mic] - when it comes to the high-end part? Sure. But I have to say, I think the t.Bone Retro Tube II on the cab sounded pretty damn cool actually. Way more interesting than any other mic in this comparison. I would totally blend that with an SM-57.
@EytschPi4211 ай бұрын
that could be a great combination.. a darker mic with SM57 is always good, that is why people use the Ribbons often.

Disclaimer: I watched this at my Desktop with a more or less crappy sound bar. I liked the SCT700 best on it's own and I didn't like the Retro Tube II. All other mics including the Lewitt to me sounded just exactly the same. In a mix... Well I would never claim I could hear any difference. So Henning any recommendations on a mic purely for communication? Not even podcast or something. I have mount, preamp, "Phantomspeisung," pop filter and XLR cables. The mic I'm using now is getting quite old and was crap to begin with (but get's the job still done). So I am just looking out for something new for no reason at all, but I just like to have good stuff for not a lot of money. The SC450 would be okay (I'd need the mic and the "Spinne") but I feel I'm overpaying for the really great looking case I'd not even need once, cause the mic get's set up and will never be changed. Only if I might move places or it dies.
@lokarrsboots933711 ай бұрын
Purely for communication? Don't go with a condenser at all. They pick up everything, especially when you are sitting at a desk. If you are using it in a Zoom call, discord or whatever, you'll be the annoying prick disturbing everyone with mouse clicks, keyboard clacks and background noise. Get a decent dynamic mic instead. It doesn't even have to be a Shure SM-58. You can get the little brother, the PG-58 on the used market in good condition for under 50 EUR.
@EytschPi4211 ай бұрын
Check into the tBone SM7 clone... that would be great and very inexpensive
@philxdev6 ай бұрын
well you´d think you are overpaying but in the end, a wooden box and a little case like that cost next to nothing coming from China, and yes the mic itself did also not cost a whole lot and in that sense, it adds to the overall production value quite a bit, in terms of "end-consumer"-retail price it really is next to nothing.
@annebokma46376 күн бұрын
So funny, you get 4 bucks and made the first microphone 4 bucks cheaper too.. thomann will love that 😂 Looking at the rm700. Wish you had included that 😂 The retro supposedly becomes magic with a cheap tube change. Is the tube easy to replace or wont it fit back together again? 😂 Third on my list. Second is lewitt ray 😊 which sounds like a 440 so that was a nice coincidence 😊 And people can moan about these, behringer and other "cheap" gear, but for beginners, the less well off and artists who want cheap alternatives or backup gear.. it is the solution. And when you grow into more renowned brands, your budget will have grown too. It is just a perfect way to start earlier without breaking the bank. And it is not that (most of) the gear is terrible or unusable at all

Recorded with SC450>>>>> kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6nahGikd914maM /// I have had the SC450 for 14 years. The switches are wobbly but don't break. The mount is junk.... I've tried a lot of microphones in the meantime (Rode, Aston, TLM 102, SM7b) because I thought "more expensive makes the sound better". Nope. I've now arrived at a UA Sphere LX. It's fatter somehow. But it still needs more work in the mix than the SC450. I still don't know if I like this much better.

@PippPriss7 ай бұрын
@philxdev6 ай бұрын
@@PippPriss cooles Album... man muss "Metal" nicht mögen aber krach ists ja deswegen auch nie^^
@philxdev6 ай бұрын
