The vocal sounds warmer with the Retro Tube and slightly clearer with the SCT800. Both sound good. The same applies to the acoustic guitar. I have the SCT 2000 and I'm more than happy with it. I picked up a NOS Telefunken tube for it. Gives it a bit of warm air on vocals, but then again that might just be me deluding myself, because I know that tube is glowing in there . Still, it makes me give more effort when I'm singing, which isn't a bad thing. Like a sign of respect .....for the holy grail tube LOL. Anyway, the mic is great. The build quality, sound, looks and of course the price. Everyone who sees and hears it is impressed.

The empty wooden box for a Neumann mic cost € 135,00. I found it while I was browsing Thomann's site. The one from the T.Bone Retro tube looks exactly the same. These things are massproduced in China. Oh and I bought the SCT 2000, the Retro tube II and the SCT 800. Each one has its own character but they're awesome.

The retro tube sounded surprisingly good for the price. That's a lot of tech for a very low price.... You do have to wonder about consistenty, at least a little bit at that price point, with such a complex microphone.... Great performance by the way! Thank 😎👍

Thanks for this...Great Review. I own 2 x SCT800's and love them as well as 2 x SC1100 both incredible microphones at any cost, especially with good tubes. I actually really like the sound of the SCT800 on your voice.

@@Christian_svedin it does not do anything at all. Some tubes are a bit louder thats it. Nothing a fader can't handle. After all a tube is not an eq.

Excellent demo. Thanks! Both microphones are amazing value for the money and both microphones suffer from flaw in circuit design which cause the high sensitivity and gives the mic relatively low headroom and increase the distortion by almost 20 times. It's an easy and cheap modification that takes this microphones to another level. Cheers

Thank you, Christian for a thorough AND honest review. I'm looking to buy the Retro Tube II and/or SCT2000 and/or SC1100 mics. I see folks recommend some bit of tube mods on Thomann's website. Mr. Jonathan Koh has done reviews on the SCT2000 and Retro Tube II...look like good value mics.

Great video. I had Retro Tube Mic before. its a beautiful mic for its price. Very neutral sounding. Also i did try to use it with different manufacturers tubes. My best was with telefunken NOS tube (Perfect sound on all hi mid and low ) from germany, secont place was taken by JJ tube (low end was weird and not natural but mid was punchy and clean) and third by Electro Voice (mid was weak and lill dirty and bassy).

This is an awesome comparison. The SCT800 to me personally wins by a tad, it brings more of an intimate feeling, while the Retro Tube II has more of a "solid foundation". On the acoustic guitars, the SCT800 smacks the living shit out of the Retro Tube II. I just recently bought the Retro Tube II and I am thinking about changing vs. the SCT800... Or actually keeping it and just buying the SCT800 next month to add to my arsenal 😀

I like the Retro best. They both sound good but the retro sounds fuller and smoother on your voice. The SCT sounds a little pinched in the mid frequencies for your voice. Nice performances!

I've owned the Retro Tube. Overall a fairly nice mic. Its power supply is big though 😅 and ultimately I decided it wasn't worth the extra space, vs f.e. the sE X1S (I think it's called) which is a bit smoother in the highs.

These videos are great and terrible at the same time. You give very fair reviews and comparisons. But I already have (and love) 2 SCT-2000s, 1 SCT-800 (all needed better tubes than the stock tube) and even a few SC-1100's. All of them have their uses (the SCT-800 is used the least, to be honest). The others are fantastic for many different things. Now I just have to get a retro tube too... These videos make me spend money... 😌

@The Tired Horizon The ones in my microphones sounded bad. I know some people do 't believe that, and I don't care if they do or don't. I didn't buy expensive tubes, but now I'm perfectly happy with my microphones.

Hej Christian! Skoj att du har börjat prova lite billigare mikrofon-val för pizza-pengar. Retro mikrofonen är ju löjligt användbar och mjuk i sin karaktär och framförallt för den låga summa. Med erfarenhet, kunskaper kring riktning och plasering, fint instrument samt ett fint rum och självklart en bra musiker (kund) kan man utan problem i värsta senarie klara en produktion med denna mikrofonen. Minns tillbaka i tiden då man startade sin första studio med en powermac g3, Digioo1 samt Alesis ai3. Slutet på -90 talet böran på 2000-talet var det Röde Ntk som var "the big thing"! Prislappen var betydligt högre, visst hade man tillgång till Neumann u87 AI, men kunderna valde alltid Röde Ntk. Det var då, sedan dess har utvecklingen gått spik rakt upp i kvalité samt extremt låga prislappar på mikrofoner, preamps, kompressorer. Din kanal kommer inom detta året att växa extremt mycket större! Lita på mig, fortsätt även att göra reklam för dyrgripar men även billigt kan låta bra. Keep up your good job Mvh C M-Consitt
